How to make a wooden toy car?

What you need:

Scroll saw. An entry-level model is fine. Make sure you buy a scroll saw that has the saws easily available.
Wood. I use 12mm and 4mm plywood. This is easy to obtain at the local hardware store and also available in smaller sizes.
Eye and hearing protection.
Sandpaper. Available everywhere and inexpensive. Make sure you have a good stock, you will need it!
Printer paper. For printing the plans.
Masking tape. Wide strips.
Cordless drill. For drilling the holes for the axles.
Wood glue. White sticky paste. Bison is always good.
Linseed oil. By treating wood with linseed oil the wood is protected against weather influences and dehydration and rotting is prevented.
Paintbrush. For applying or distributing the glue and linseed oil.
Scissors.
Glue spray.

Step 1: The Plans

Print the .pdf file.
Cut the paper around the parts (per 2) well away.

Take a plywood sheet of the required thickness as indicated on the working drawing and cut it to size so that the cut out drawings fit exactly. This is to prevent waste of wood.

Lay the plywood with masking tape. The working drawing can later be easily removed from the wood.

Use old newspapers as a substrate and spray the glue on the back of the working drawing. Then stick it onto the masking tape.

Step 2: Sawing

Always protect your eyes and ears when you work with electric tools!

Saw out all parts. This takes a lot of time. The nicer you cut, the less you will have to sand later! Do not forget to drill the holes for the axles or make a mark so that you still know where to drill the hole after removing the working drawing.

Step 3: Sanding

If the parts are cut, it is not necessary to start sanding. You run the risk that certain parts no longer fit during assembly. Can't you wait with sanding? Only sand the parts that do not have a connection like in this case the center console of the Horsepower GT!

Glue 2 times 2 parts with the chairs together. After drying you can shape the chairs with sandpaper or a Dremel.

Step 4: Glue

Glue the part with the center console between the parts with the seats. When the glue is dry you can sand the bonnet and grill. These do not connect to the remaining parts.

After the sides have also been glued, you can shape the trunk and the roof. I like to sand everything by hand, but it takes a lot of time.

Step 5: Axles and Wheels

The axles are 6 mm thick. Do not make them too short, surplus can later be easily sawn off and smoothed.
I kept the design of my wheels basic. Many of you toy makers make beautiful wheels themselves or have an good address to buy wheels.

Use a small saw to cut off excess wood.

Sand the sawn-off axle smooth.
