Introduction: Wow !! Run Stepper Motor Without a Driver || New Idea 2018

Hi!

In this instructable, i will teach you how to run a stepper motor continuously at high speed without a driver circuit or arduino or AC power supply.Also, by interchanging the wirings, you can run it in both clock-wise & counter clock-wise directions.

This method is applicable for 6-wire stepper motor.

Step 1: Components Needed for the Project :-

1) 1 piece of 6 wire Stepper Motor.

2) 3 pieces of CTC 1351 Power Transistors.

3) 3 pieces of 1 k-ohm resistors (half watt).

4) 1 bread-board.

5) Some wires

6) Multi-meter

7) 20 to 32V DC power source

8) Some tape

Step 2: Completing the Circuit on Bread Board :-

Take the power transistors and connect it as shown in the picture.

Now take one resistor and connect its one terminal to the base of the first transistor and its other terminal to the collector of the other transistor.Take the second resistor and connect its one terminal to the base of the second transistor and its second terminal to the collector of third and them similarly with the third resistor.

After that, connect all the emitter terminals together with jumper cables.

Now take 3 different wires and connect it to the collector terminals of 3 power transistors.So finally, you should be left with 4 open wires on your bread board ( 3 of them for collector and one for common emitter)

Step 3: Final Connections :

Now what you have to do is take your stepper motor and your multi-meter and do some resistance check for the wires coming out from the stepper motor.Here, you have to check for maximum similar resistances for two wires and after you have found your pairs, separate it with other wires by sticking tape to it as shown.

In my case it was 3.6 ohms resistance.Neglect the remaining wires as they are not needed in the project.

Now take a 20 to 30V DC power supply and connect the positive terminal to any of the 4 wires and to the remaining 3, connect the collector wires from the breadboard.

Step 4: Testing :-

Now simply connect the negative terminal from the dc power supply to the common emitter terminal.

Your stepper motor should start running really fast.If it does not starts on its own, then that is because of the magnetic locking of the pole inside the motor.Simply give it a push and it should start smoothly.

    Can i use any transistor? Like 3 x 40n60 or so on

    How do you call a pair of transistors if not a driver ?

    Actually the function of a driver circuit is to control the number of steps the stepper takes / in clockwise or counterclockwise / also the speed and along with that, it can also run a stepper motor continuously in a specific direction while this circuit just allows the stepper motor to run in clockwise or counterclockwise and nothing more.Great question.

    Not really, a driver is a current amplifier, I mean for me !. Regarding the 193 series, the whole work is made by the upward processor, phase commuting, pwm width and frequency, etc.

    Ya !! But then we would be calling driver a current amplifier.A driver controls when and where the current should flow and its quantity too.

    So there are some details that have been left out of the instructable. Like ; 1. What is the voltage of the motor? 2. Where is the schematic?

    3. Does it have good torque? 4. How does the circuit work?

    Like a lot of these instructables, you can make something but you really dont learn anything. Hense the instructable really doesn't instruct.
