Introduction: Yellow Lentil Soup for Winters

Yellow lentil soup is easy to make and can enjoyed by itself or with steamed rice.

Gather ingredients:
1 cup - lentil washed and drained
1.5 cups - water
1 teaspoon - turmeric powder
Salt to taste

Ingredients for tampering:
1 teaspoon - crushed red pepper (or to taste)
1 teaspoon - cumin seeds
1 teaspoon  - oil
pinch of Asafetida

Prepare Soup:
Pour water, washed lentil, turmeric powder and salt in pressure cooker.
Cook on medium heat for 20 mins (or until three to four whistle).
Let the pressure escape from the pressure cooker before opening the lid.

Note: If using a pot it will take around 45 mins to cook or until lentils are soft. Place a lid on the pot.

Prepare tampering:
Put the oil.
Once oil is heated (not smoking) add cumin seeds, red crushed pepper and asafetida.
This is a quick process so turn off the head and do not let the ingredients burn.

Add the tampering to the soup.
Garnish with chopped cilantro (optional)
Serve hot and enjoy

    lentils can decrease the weight

    This sounds simply wonderful! I don't have a pressure cooker, would this work cooked any other way do you think?

    Yes it can be cooked in a pot.
    1. Soak the washed lentils in water for 1/2 an hour to 1 hour before cooking this will reduce cooking time.
    2. Cover the pot so the steam can cook the lentils down to smoother texture
    3. Also the cooking time will be more than pressure cooker, I usually cook until lentils are soft and then let it simmer for another 15 mins after they are soft.
