Introduction: The Gift for the Person Who Has Everything.....custom Ornaments.

About: I am a domestic engineer, aka. a stay at home Mom. A former science geek, scenic carpenter, and quilter.

Not sure what to get so-and-so for x-mas?

You have a friend who really likes sloths, but where the heck are you going to find sloth something?

You got heifer international donations for someone, but want to give them more than a card?

You want to make someone's x-mas card extra special?

Well, here is your solution.

An easy way to make any kind of ornament you want.

Step 1: Ingredients

You will need:

an idea
google image search
pencil and paper
felt
scissors. (small sharp ones)
needle
thread
hook or ribbon to hang ornament.

Step 2: Research Your Idea.

So, once you know what you want to make, you need to look up pictures.
Google image search is great.
For example: Sloth.
You can search sloth, and you get lots of photos.
Also search "sloth cartoon", "sloth clip art", "sloth drawing".

Once you have looked at a million pictures, you need to determine what makes your sloth a sloth. (so it doesn't look like a raccoon, monkey, bear, etc.)

Sloths have silly grins, big eyes, 3 toes, and they hang upside down.

Step 3: Sketch

Now it's time to sketch out your design.
Decide how big you want it to be.
Add your essential details.

With felt, you need to work in layers.
You want a base layer for the body, and add the details on top.

Step 4: Cut It Out, Stitch It Up.

Now it's time to cut out your shapes.

Remember, it's easy to cut more off, very hard to put it back.

Now that you have your pieces, sew them together. You can use matching thread so it doesn't show.
You can use different colored thread to add accent.
There are lots of embroidery stitches you can do to add details.
French knots make great eyes.

If you really don't want to sew, you can hot glue, but the effect isn't quite as good.

Step 5: Finalize

And that's it.  You can sew on a ribbon or hook so that you can hang up your ornament.

These ornaments are small enough you can send them in with your x-mas cards with no extra postage.

Hope you like them.

Let me know if you come up with something great.

My next one to make is a gargoyle ornament........
Hmmmm..........
