Rebuilding NordicTrack ski machine drive rollers

Many people still buy and use a NordicTrack Ski Machine, although these machines are not as popular as they once were. I have talked to people who say they just plain wore out a ski machine. The part that wears is the one-way clutch inside the drive rollers. NordicTrack makes the one-way clutch sound very mysterious. In reality it is a one-way needle bearing and is available from Amazon or locally from a good bearing shop. The internal diameter of the one-way needle bearing used in my machine (Challenger, similar to a 303) is 5/8 inch. The outer diameter is 7/8 inch. The width of the one-way needle bearing from end to end is 5/8 inch. I originally had hopes of being able to install new one-way needle bearings, myself; but, they together with the bronze sleeve bearings on either side of the one-way needle bearing inside each drive roller are pressed into place. Pressing bearings is not a job for the average home tinkerer but requires a bearing press capable of exerting tons of pressure in a very precise manner. You can often have a local machine shop press the bearings in your machine's drive rollers. Or, you can send them away to Nordic Track Guy and have them rebuilt for about $33 with a one week turnaround. The core of the rollers really does not wear out, but new rollers are available on the Internet from $65 to $95, depending on the vendor. From what I can find, some models used an alternate size. Check to be certain you order the correct rollers, if you choose to replace. One of my drive rollers suddenly began to hiccup. It seemed that the clutch did not always release immediately when I pulled my foot forward. Then I noticed a little mush in the response when I began to bring my foot back on the push stroke. Before you rebuild or replace your rollers, try this: Remove one side of your Ski Machine. See the second photo and check the exploded diagram in your manual. Four nuts and two screws, all plainly visible, need to be removed. Slide the washers and the roller off of the top side. The shaft and flywheel can be wiggled out of the other side without removing anything from that side. Remove the washers and the roller from that side, too. Flush the one-way needle bearing by squirting some penetrating oil, like Liquid Wrench, into the bearing. Work it both ways with your smallest finger. Push a facial tissue into the shaft hole in the roller and sop away the penetrating oil and any metallic dust it lifts. Do this several times. Let the rollers air dry. A little lubrication is good. People who comment on lubrication for one-way needle bearings use Tri-Flo (I am not familiar with it.) or they use a little ATF transmission fluid. You want enough to lubricate, but not so much that the bearings slip. (But, see the comments below where the oil impregnated bronze sleeve bearings are supposed to supply enough lubrication for the needle bearings.) Put the rollers back in place on the shaft. Check to be certain they grab on the rearward stroke and release on the forward stroke. Reassemble the machine. Do not forget the washers between the roller and the side board. My machine works again as it should. The day will likely come when this simple fix does not help, and I will need to rebuild or replace the rollers then. But, for now, my rollers have a new lease on life. What follows is for your information. The first photo is of a portion of the back cover of the manual that came with my machine. It shows a cutaway image of the drive roller. The black printing is mine. Notice the three cylinders inside the drive roller. The outer two are bronze sleeve bearings. The center one looks like a roller bearing, but is a one-way needle bearing. A one-way needle bearing is essentially a roller bearing, but the rollers are able to move forward and backward a little in their cage. There is a wedge shape for the axle of each roller that causes the rollers to bind between the bearing cage and the shaft when the rotation is in one direction, but they are free in the other direction. Here is a description of how they work with graphics. This link is for an Instructable about a number of modifications I made to our NordicTrack ski machine, including how it can be stored vertically in a closet. If you do not have a digital monitor for your skier, or need to replace one, here is an Instructable on how to make your own from a digital bicycle speedometer.  Check NordicParts for any parts you need, also Nordic Fitness Ski Machines. Danny at Nordic Fitness Ski Machines has some very nice new rollers for sale.

TR-8 Aftermarket kit, TR-36 "Overkill"

I know this works for cars, so I decided to put an extreme spin on KILLERK recent TR-8. The majority of the body is based of the TR-8, but as you can see I added a little different styling to the handle which is also used to support the heavy turret. I added a bit more of a stock to the original but kept the mechanics the way they were. (can't mess with perfection) The turret itself has a ratchet, similar to the TR-8 which allows the turret to only "wind up" in the correct direction. The turret is also attached the same way as the TR-8 with a socket joint in the grip of the gun. I threw some tactical rails on the sides of the gun to try to hint at capability with attachment but the turret is kind of blocking any attachment you would put there. Overall the TR-36 Overkill feel awesome (heavy) and with that phenomenal power and range you would expect from any turret gun. Tell me if you're interested in an ible' and I'll start working on making one.  Thanks for looking! JonnyBGood

Can I hook a home theater subwoofer to my cars stereo system?

I have a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with an aftermarket Jensen VM9512 in-dash DVD receiver. Can I hook up my subwoofer (Sony SA-W2500) to the receiver and use it successfully? I don't want to buy another sub. What I have to work with is a long enough cable to connect the sub and the receiver and a 12-volt DC - AC inverter. I'm not sure if the 12-volt plug in the back of my Jeep is turned on and off with the ignition or not, but the subwoofer has an automatic on and off mode and the power inverter is just ether on or off. Help? :]

Can you help diagnose my Seal-A-Meal?

I have a Seal-A-Meal brand vacuum sealer, that all of a sudden stopped working properly. It has no On-Off switch. You simply plug it in, and then put the bag up to the vacuum area and then press down and hold the lid when its vacuuming the air out and then seals the bag closed. When it stopped working, a vacuum bag was placed (as we normally would) and then the lid was put down and pressed. The motor is still running, but normally it makes a louder noise as its vacuuming the air out, and this time it didn't work. (No vacuum). Since it wouldn't vacuum the air, it then wouldn't also seal the bag. Oddly, when I remove the bag and close it (with nothing in there) it DOES make the high pitched-noise, the green light comes on (hands free) and then does the sealing, even though there is nothing to seal.  But when I put the bag in - nothing but the motor running consistently with no change in intonation of the motor and the green light doesn't come on and it doesn't seal. So with the bag - not working.  Without the bag, it seems to work. I"m using Food Saver brand bags but those have always worked in the past.  Any ideas on what to do to service it and hopefully get it working again?

New k’nex gun concept that could potentially be better than a TR-8

I’ve come up with a magazine system based on the TR-18’s turret system. I’m trying to incorporate it into a TR-8 2018 body currently. It needs to hold the shells in while still letting the ammunition stick out the front. I’m also trying to avoid cut/broken parts unless absolutely necessary. Here are two possible shell designs I’ve come up with so far:

Problem With Virtualbox; Not Enough Space Error When There Is 200GB Free.

I Bought myself a Lego RCX for Christmas this year... I wanted to use it with my windows 10 PC, after inserting the software disk(s) and realizing that it was meant for windows 98 and it won't work on my modern PC I went ahead and installed virtual box and ran windows XP on it. I installed the Lego software (which installed without any problems) but when I tried to launch it there was a "Not Enough Disk Space Error" Even though the virtual hard drive has 200GB free. Any Ideas?By the way, I tried the "Emulator" that is built into windows 10, it also didn't work (The one were you go into properties, compatibility, and change it to windows 98).I Also tried Windows 98 in virtual machine, when I launched it there was no "Not Enough Disk Space" errors, but there was a error that said something along the lines of "this program requires 800x600 resolution minimum" When I went into the control panel my resolution was 640x480, and I couldn't move the slider to make the resolution higher for some reason. And I do not want to use any of the other programs for coding the RCX (Bricx command center, etc).Any Help would be appreciated! Thanks.

Electronic control for RV positive air pressure system..

I am biulding a positive air pressure system for my RV. I would like to include an electronic control system that will allow equal pressure inside and out or positive oressure inside. This will NOT allow any dust to enter the vehicle.I was thinking using an altimeter/pressure sensor for measuring internal and external air pressures. My concern is that the outside air flow while travelling will create a negative pressure reading.I also require circuit diagram for sensors cuopled to a 12v air blower.I look forward to comments and ideas.

Automated Garage Door Timer

I have the bad habit of leaving my garage door open sometimes. To come home with your garage wide open is pretty scary. So I was thinking of this idea...  The garage automatically closes after 5 minutes. Lice, dust and Dandruff removing comb

The design of the comb is based on Vaccum based system as it will remove dandruff and lice using vaccum system. As per sketch there will be a vaccum pump and a rechargeable battery and both will be installed in the handle of comb. There will be several holes on the teeth of this comb to absorb the dandruff ,dust and lice When the Vaccum pump starts then the teeth of the comb will work to absorb the dandruff ,dust and lice atthe time of using this comb. Just use this comb and dandruff will be removed. Salient features: (1) it is simple to manufacture (2) it will work very effectively (3) it will remove dandruff and dust stick with hair to clean the hair so there is no need to wash the hair.it will also save time and money. (4)there is no need of any chemical as it will work using vaccum (5)The another interesting use of this comb is treatment of "Head Lice"as it will work to remove lice using vaccum. (6) It will be a low cost solution (7) There will be no problem of hair loss as there is no chemical.

DIY Pilates Machine (sort of)

Hi,I was just wondering if anyone could offer me some advice or pointers, it would be very much appreciated.I love doing pilates. I used to so it a lot when I was a student but now I travel a lot and the machine (this sort of thing https://youtu.be/m-CtD9Km1aM )is just too bulky to set up and put away.So I’ve been looking at alternatives, either something smaller and more portable or an alternative that would do the same thing. I found this https://youtu.be/CjFY1NjhJrg but unfortunately it isn’t sold in the UK. Shipping a heavy item, paying the customs charge and then if anything breaks I won’t be able to get it repaired. So I am now trying to build something myself. I was thinking something along the lines of a skateboard or hoverboard with resistance bands clipped on. I was just wondering if anyone has any thoughts, suggestions or alternatives as I’d really love to hear them.Thank you.

Adjustable Teeth comb

My innovative idea is regarding an adjustable teeth comb. There are Many type of combs available in the market but problem is that one's cannot use all these types of combs at a time. There are wide teeth comb, semiwide teeth, and fine teeth combs are available in the market. To prevent the hair loss it is very necessary to find right teeth comb. The solution is here in this Idea. Discription: As per sketch there is a wide teeth comb and each teeth will have 1 cm.space with each other teeth. There will be an another comb which will slide on the wide teeth comb. The sliding comb will work in this way that the User can set the teeth of comb as per his desire or as per his hair style requirement. After setting the teeth the slider comb will be locked. In another words it will work like "Sliding Cutter mechanism". In this way this product will work. Salient features: (1) No need of buying different teeth comb as one's can set the space of teeth of this comb (0.5 mm to10mm) and this adjustable comb will work to prevent hair damage as it will not intangled with hair. (2) low cost (3) easy to use (4) light weight (5) easy to clean (6) Prevent Hairloss or suitable for all kinds of hair style. (7) Both Female and Male can use it. (8) very useful to detangle hair due to adjustable teeth for curly hair.

Battery less mosquito catcher Bat

There are products like battery operated bats available in the market to kill mosquitoes and insects but there is no battery-less innovation. My invention is very simple and very effective in killing mosquitoes as there is no need for recharging the battery of this mosquito bat. Only a bat and adhesive tape are required to build it. It will work to by trapping and killing mosquitoes. Salient features: (1) there is no need for recharging it. (2) the adhesive tape can be removed and replaced after use. (3) it is a very low cost design so anyone can afford it very easily. (4) it is safe and light weight (5) it can be used many times.

what are the chemicals used in fart bags? Answered

I have been looking on the net for what ingredients go into fart bags, which are these fart bombs with powder in them and a liquid inside a small packet, which you squish , then they react to produce hydrogen sulfide and then the bag pops and a rotton egg smell fills the area. i realy want to know what it is that goes into those because i want to make a 10xbigger fart bage, but i dont want to have to use the powder and liquid from real ones because the only ones i can get cost $15 for a packet of 10 which i feel is too expensive when i know there may be an alternative method.

As if I didn't have enough stress!

School sucks right now, have an A,B,C,& D, I'm stressed about that. But I come home today and I check my bank online and see that someone's used my debit card # to purchase $300 worth of soccer jerseys (WTF? SRSLY). SO I immediately call the bank (india) and tell them, guess what, since it's only pending they can't do anything, even though I alerted them, I have to wait until the money is stolen out of my account to file a fraud dispute, ridiculous. At least, I limit my liability to $50 by reporting it within two days (per FTC.gov), but it's a damned ass backward way to do it. BTW the banks solution, call the merchant, sigh, well their 800 number rang and rang, the other contact number went to voice mail, so they got a long detailed message. And of course, I cancelled my card, not at the banks suggestion. I has bad feeling about what a PITA this is going to turn into...

Moving Back In With Your Parents?!

Is this a good idea? Who ever thinks moving back in with your parents is a GOOD thing? Perhaps when it comes with free room and board and helping you pay back your college loans. Here's the deal:I move States and help work at my brothers' store in exchange for not having to stress about rent, paying back college loans - basically about life. But is it truly stress free? What about the stress attained after reverting back to your childlike role? Granted, I'll have more time to plan on grad school and writing on the side...I can't stand my Dad. He's going senile and has a short temper after he gets into your business and doesn't understand - and I lack the patience. He'll start yelling and reverting back to his "I'm the tyrannical boss" mode one moment and forget he wasn't as gentle as he is in the next.I see my brothers - they're both in their 30s and technically, it's their house they want me to move into, but they don't date, they don't have time what with working so much. And my mom cooks all the time and I've already gained 10 pounds from the Christmas break visit.I'm just wondering if life will ever be stress-free or if it just transcends...

Problem with too much window condensation

I have double pane, insulating glass house windows that collect condensation during the winter heating months. The condensation is not between the panes, it is inside the home. The water builds up and runs down onto the wood frame causing rot. It occurs only on the bottom inch or two of the window. The home is in Northern Wisconsin where it is commonly 20 deg F outside and 70 deg F inside. The interior humidity is controlled and not excessive. Aside from setting the interior humidity to desert-like conditions, how can I remove the moisture and prevent further damage to the frame? Desiccant bags? Solar powered fans? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Simple and very effective device to quit smoking

SIMPLE AND VERY EFFECTIVE ANTI SMOKING DEVICE TO QUIT THE ADDICTION OF NICOTINE :This is a very simple solution and based on vibration therapy. As per sketch there is two vibrational motor(Cellphone vibrational motors) and these will run with batteries. These motors will create vibrations. Now What is needed is that just transfer these vibrations on the Tongue .When someone is getting desired to take Nicotine as any form (Cigarette, tobbaco) then just put this device on tongue for 3 to 5 seconds and will feel result that the desire of taking of nicotine is no more. The result will be amazing to quit the addiction of tobbaco .even just use the device for 25 to30 days continuously and the desire of taking tobacco will be ended permanently. The part of the device which is going to transfer the vibrations on tongue will be made with COPPER.The reason why the device is working is that it is going to stimulate the neurones in the brain through tongue vibrations to suppress the desire of taking nicotine. Why I am presenting this solution as I have been able to quit the tobacco addiction myself after using this vibrational system. It is very simple to manufacture it.

K'nex: The bane of modern DIY

Okay, We all know that K'nex is fun, and nearly everyone remembers playing with them when they were young. BUT, I have found that nearly every time that I try to find an Instructable on ANYTHING half or more of the title results come up as something like this "Seuper-Ultra Awsum L33T K'nex thing". We all know that K'nex is fun, but is it really necessary, that every time that your 8 year old son, (or, 8 year old self for that matter) builds something out of K'nex that looks remotely like ANYTHING you go post an Instructable on it. Now, I am not trying to bash on K'nex here, in fact, I love them, but I hate when people think in is necessary to torment the rest of the world with their primitive creations. Then again, this is just my opinion, please post your own. Long days, and pleasant nights, Aztof Du'Reth

Zombie hunter - a game for long car trips

For as long as I can remember a long road trip with the kids meant playing some games to kill the time. For years we tried spotting special cars, like original beetles or a rare color like yellow. Then came phones and tablets and the kids went silent. We now found a quite entertaining game we call Zombie Hunter.A zombie in this game is a person using a mobile phone.Points we tried to keep simple in the beginning but now that little ones are getting batter at math we advanced. Here is a little points list:1 For every pedestrian on the phone or a passenger in a car.2 If said pedestrian ran into something or had a fall because of the phone use.5 For someone on a bike using the phone.10 points for a driver using the phone.15 points for a policeman using the phone while driving.Half an hour stuck in city traffic can get you well over 100 points even with 4 people playing LOLMy favourite areas to make quick points:Stops at the traffic lights - always some good points to make.Stopping somewhere near a drive through and you are certain to get 30 or so points if you are quick. If the kids are still little and you go often to playgrounds there is another nice game.I call it Lost Child.1 point for every parent who obviously lost sight of their kid(s).2 points for every parent missing to realise their kid(s) is about to have an accident of fall.3 points for every parent just sitting there and staring at a screen instead of interacting with thier kids.5 points for every parent running around in panic trying to find the missing kid(s).An additional point for every kid you can collect and keep out of harm until the parents notice they are gone.Have fun playing but don't become a point yourself...;)

Knex Gun Ideas Hello fellow Knexers, I have some ideas and concepts that I have been thinking about and I would like to share them with you all.  Please give me credit if you use any of these ideas of mine.  Also please send me pictures if you are able to create any of these ideas so that we can all help to advance the Knex community.  I know that some of you may have thought of  ideas kind of  like this, so please don't get all bent out of shape that I stole one of your ideas. And please give me your feedback and and ideas in the comments below. 1 Horizontal Knex Oodammo mag     This is an idea that I came up with the other day ago, it could either be on the top or the bottom of     the gun.  First there would be a rail that holds the ammo on top and pushes it down a ramp and then     it falls in front of the FP  and is shot out.  This may have an advantage because then you don't have a                     large mag sticking out of the bottom of your gun. 2  Oodammo bull-pup    I do not see a big advantage to this but maybe some one would like to try this,  Has any one tried             this before? 3 Rotating hammer action   There would be 4 hammers attached to a cog and the hammers would spin around in a circular          motion and hit a new piece of ammo each time they spin around.  I don't think that you could get that      much power with this, but maybe it could be attached to a motor or it could be wound up and released     by the trigger.     4 Knex magazine idea      I was watching some YouTube videos about Nerf guns and there was this one that I saw, is there a      way to make something like this out of Knex?  To load the gun you slide back the pullback and load          ammo though the top into the magazine, this is not a top loading mag but you feed the ammo into the      mag from the top and it is pushed up when you slide the pullback back over the top of the gun.    Here is a link to a video about the gun so you get the idea of how it works    http://https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cjpkp9TRDWo    I will be posting more new ideas here soon so come back often to see updates and more, and please subscribe and share your ideas    below so that we can advance the Knex community to the Next level of innovation, design, comfort and power!    If you have a question or don't understand one of these ideas,  please just ask me below.    Thanks for your ideas and feedback!!    SONIC BROOM
