So i bought an ipod from a friend, he sold it to be because it was broken. I am attempting to fix it, but i have been stumped! I reset it to factory settings, (formatted it with iTunes) but it says that there is 0kb free! A 111GB of usesless stuff is on there (The drive is 120gb, but formatted, it read 111gb), and it can't get it off! I can't really access it through windows because it freezes my computer when i try to open it/right click it It takes a while to boot (1-2 minutes) it gets recognized by iTunes only part of the time. Every time it boots, i have to re-enter the preferred language. Thank for any help!

The connector plug sheared off where it plugs into the drum set. I cut the cable to replace the jack but can't figure out how the wires inside can be reconnected to the new jack. It looks like there is only one wire inside the insulation but part is red and part is gold. But they seem to run together. Any advice or help appreciated!?

How do i fix a broken ipod or create a customizable working one?
Hey, what's up everyone, I'm new. Hopefully I'm not breaking any rules. So I'm sure you've gotten tons of these already, but, I have a pair of broken earphones. Two pairs actually. On both, the right side is broken (as in, no sound). I took them apart and found that on one of them the coating of the wire seems to have melted or something (there was sticky black stuff all over the inside), and on the other the diaphragm thingy is detached. So at first I thought there were frayed wires somewhere, but the electromagnets on both still work (I tested them with a piece of metal, the attraction was still really strong), so I figured that there must be something wrong with the diaphragm (what are those things called? the plastic cone thingies?). My question is: Is there a way to test the diaphragm thing, and if that's the problem, is it fixable? Thanks very much in advance.

Well, last Saturday I bought a Playstation controller from a yard sale. It was an original PS controller, you know, the ones without analog sticks or rumble motors. Anyways, I plugged 'er in, and it played fine. I was able to play for hours with no problems. I woke up the next day, plugged it in, and nothing. The controller just stopped working. I've tried several times since then, and it still is not working. I cleaned it all out on the inside, I made sure the buttons and button contacts were clean, I cleaned the part that connects to the Playstation, but it still won't work. I tested out a couple of working controllers in the same controller port, and they both work fine.

Took my ephiphone EJ to show at a party awhile ago. Drunk folks (with steel toed boots, apparently) were messing with it I guess and someone knocked it on the floor and put their foot through it. i took it to my local guitar store and they told me the repairs would probably cost more than the guitar and it would sound terrible anyway. the bracers inside are cracked and completely broken off in some places. so i'm probably going to dismember it for parts. any ideas for projects? theres a little preamp, plus a saddle and a neck pickup inside. ideally i would like to use the pickups to electrify my other acoustic, but it's sort of nice so i don't really want to go putting holes in it .maybe a soundhole pickup? i don't know a lot about pickups. i'm open to other ideas, too. just so long as the pieces of her corpse go to good use. she would've wanted it that way.

Ok, so I have 2 headphones, both of them can only play through one of the 2 earbuds, but while the ipod earbuds can play through the right headphones, the noise canceling ones can play through the left. I know its a problem with the wires, because i can still squeeze sound out of the dead earbud if I adjust the wire right. How can I fix without buying a new pair?

My wii has worked ine for the four years I've owned it. Gradually, it stopped reading discs one by one. Some would work while others wouldn't. The number of working ones decreased until it is now zero. When inserting a disc, the wii shows an animation of two spinning discs. They stop spinning and the screen displays "Unable to read the disc". I vacuumed at every opening I found in the wii case. This made the discs spin for MUCH longer than before, but they still fail. As far as Google can help me, the problem could be 1. Dirty laser 2. Broken laser 3. Broken disc drive How do I narrow down the problem to know exactly what the problem is? (I realize Instructables isn't the best place to ask this. But I know you people are smart, so I thought I might get some help. Thanks!) EDIT: I've now learned, with the help of Steve, that my problem is probably a dirty laser. My only problem is the tri-wing screwdriver. Where can I get it offline?

I have an Xbox 360 from a few years ago and It is completely dead. It caught the Red Ring of Death so I sold everything except the console itself; that includes wires. I'm looking for something interesting to do with it other than throw it out or fix it since I will be getting another one later in the month.

Hey,I bought my first 360 on the same day they launched but about 2 years ago it stop reading disks it just says "unreadable disk" or something similar no matter what disk I put in it. About 6 months after that I retried it on a whim and it worked and I happily played Crackdown, unfortunately after another 6 months it stopped reading again. So far I haven't gotten the red-rings of death but I'm wondering what the problem might be. As near as I can figure it must be the laser, that it's got loose and shifted so it doesn't read, then shifted back true then off again, right?

I have a silver original DS fat and the right hinge (looking at it from a playing view) originally broke but I could deal with the odd angle. Now, the left hinge broke as well and the screen has the capability to completely twist around (see pic). The system turns on and the top screen still has power but it remains blank (see pic). If you have any idea on how to fix this and also a place to purchase a shell, which I am guessing it would require, that'd be great. Thank you!

I've just finished a paper model boat, it's a fishing boat with a lot of small detail, and especially rigging with thread. can anyone suggest any ways to keep it from getting broken/ and i don't mean, 'make sure you don't sit on it' or something, but maybe a spray on adhesive that would keep all the joints stiff, but wouldn't damage the paper.

Well, I was playing Band hero, on the drums, then one of the drum pads stopped working! If any of you had this happen or have any ideas on how to fix this, that could really help. Thanks.

I am trying to fix a stretch of woven wire fence that was broken by a car running into it about 3 months ago. The wire itself is completely broken in two. I want to weld the wire back togeather, but the trouble is that I weld with Oxy Mapp gas and my welding wire is the same thickness as the fence wire. I am worried about melting the fence when I am trying to repair it. So what I think I need is some way to ark weld the wire, but I do not have an ark welder. Are there any homemade welders I can make for this purpose, because I do not want to buy something I will never use again?

Here's a quick photo-essay about my Sunday afternoon: An outside hose bibb was leaking around the handle, so I decided to replace it. * I couldn't remove the old hose bibb from a piece of galvanized pipe, so I removed the pipe too, and found what looked like a brass fitting inside the wall. * Once I had installed a new length of pipe and hose bibb, I turned the house water back on, and heard it leaking inside the wall. Thinking I hadn't tightened it enough, I really beared down and gave the bibb/pipe combo a good crank to seal the connection in the wall. That's when I felt a pipe inside the wall break, and heard water start blasting inside the wall. *Fortunately, I have access to the other side of the wall through the garage, so I cut a hole and installed a valve upstream of the break. I didn't have time to do a full repair and re-route the pipe outside, so that's where I've left it for now. It took three separate trips to Home Depot -- represented above by *'s -- which seems about average for me and plumbing disasters. Things I could have learned: try to remove the broken item before going to get parts. That would have saved one trip to get the additional length of pipe. I don't think I've ever soldered copper pipes in a non-emergency setting. Last time, our hot water heater failed the day before my parents arrived for a week's stay. If you'd like to do your own plumbing, I strongly recommend learning to solder on a project that doesn't require the water to the entire house to be off. Thanks to zachninme for taking photos!2008-08-31 Update: Since I know everyone is dying to know how this turned out, I've add a few more pictures. With the right tools and parts in hand, I replaced everything from the broken copper pipe out to the hose bid, and removed the valve inside the wall. The tricky part was mounting a brass 1/2 NPT female to copper 1/2 elbow. Originally, this piece was nailed into a stud and then the copper was soldered on before the walls were finished. I didn't want to make a big hole in the stucco on the exterior wall and I couldn't safely get my torch into the confined space, so I soldered some copper elbows onto this brass elbow and then mounted it with machine screws coming in from behind through the stud (screw heads on the inside where I could access them through the hole in the drywall, and bolts on the other side with the brass elbow where I positioned and tightened them by feel).Having opened a plumbing battle on this front, I decided to fix a bunch of other plumbing problems around the house, which I'll write about shortly in an Instructable.

Our sofa sags at middle cushion. I tipped couch over and one spring was broken and the other came loose. I wrapped wire around broken spring and around the wood it was attached to, the second spring I reattached and wrapped wire around to hold together. Now it’s back to sagging again! Is there a better - more permanent way I can repair this?

Right, so here it is. Im selling my knex, but i was first thinking of my fellow iblers, so im going to tell you all. So anyway, i dont know exactly how much knex ive got, but i have quite a bit. And ALOT of my pieces are broken, so what Id do is seperate the broken from the non broken, and sell the broken one along with the unbroken ones, but obviously, say if it was 1500 broken pieces, id sell em like £5 more? Thats pretty fair, cause you can still use them. But i was just wondering if anyone was interested in buying? But if you want to buy just the non broken knex, just tell me.

Hey, just wanted to let you all know that i broke my right pointer finger. To all of you who like the guns i build, i'm sorry but i cant really build with a cast. I can put easy pieces together and such, but when it comes to snapping in a bunch of connectors i can't do it. I broke it when it got slammed in a car door. (the car is the lexus that i took the pics for my hell slayer on) My stupid sister saw her friend and jumped out of the car to see her and slammed the door just as i was getting out. I was just stepping out and my finger got slammed in the door. i had to go get a freaking splint and it sucks :( I can still make some stuff. I get my splint off in about 2 weeks. Then it will be sore, and i will have to have a wrap on it for another week.

It's a Beogram 8002 phonograph and a Rotel RA-8408X amplifier. Much to my dismay, the phonograph appears to only be outputting audio to the left channel, even with a stereo LP. The speakers are wired correctly (I've confirmed that, using a different source, the speakers output stereo), and everything is plugged in as it should be. I've checked the audio cable(s) that goes from the phonograph to the amp with a multimeter and didn't find any shorts. Curiously enough, the plug that goes into the phonograph (it appears to be proprietary) has 5 pins and a ground, but only 3 of the pins do anything. Apparently this setup cost my Dad a pretty penny when he bought it, so I'd really like to fix it. Any help is appreciated.
