Dvd player is a tad loud

I gots a question, I have this Panasonic X410 dvd player, it's a real nice unit for 1999, and makes a real nice big single disc cd player..but on my stereo when I play music, it keeps lighting up the peak indicator on my reciever, which probably isn't too good to do that often. I wanted to know if there was a way to "tune" this thing down a bit as far as the line level outputs, but there's not onscreen volume control that I can find. Also, I'm fairly pertubed as to why there's two sets of video rca outputs and two sets of the audio jacks, respectivly, set side beside each other. There's no specific labeling of their function other than just video and audio out, not video 2 or nothing and I don't remember any mentioning of in the manual a few years back when I still had it. This unit has a nice 10 bit video dac with a 24 bit audio decoder (96khz something), I really want to hear what the fibre optic on it sounds like, but hey I can't afford a $3,000 amplifier right now, does anyone know of any kind if "converter" or way I could install a fibre optic board I can get my hands on into my surround sound unit I have now. Ideas ideas, I guess I have spring fever eh?

is it possible to build a fairly cheap in ear system for live gigs?

I find it easier to deliver a good vocal performance when i can hear myself singing.although gigs generally provide monitors, i have and often use an in ear system when playing in my local church band and the difference is incomparable, for obvious reasons. the only problems is these systems are extremely costly. for now i am just wanting to play some acoustic gigs so a simple transmittor and in ear system would do the job.do you have any diagrams of any such devices?many thanks

Proximity Sensor 1' - 25'; Bat Ears for a Blind Woman

First of all, I'm a noob in electronics, so please explain your jargon as you would to a 3 year old. I am smart & learn quickly. So, I really want to make my blind 80 year-old grandmother a pair of bat ears. I bought her one of those sonic distance measureres from home-depot because of the barely audible tic they send out to bounce off wall/etc and record the time it takes the signal to return. You can hear the tic, and with your eyes closed.. you can kinda tell how far things are away from you just by listening. She loves it, and it just barely.. kinda works. What I"m shooting for is a single over-ear headphone (xbox-live communicator style) with some type of proximity sensor attached, sending a constant signal to the headphone... low for long distances, gradually higher for gradually closer distances. Any reasonable suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

How do I fix the earbuds that came with my ipod?

I've used the earbuds that came with my iPod since the summer, and I like them. Recently the plastic/rubbery border on the edge came off, and so did the mesh that made it bearable to listen to, in one of them (the right one, if you care). Now what's exposed has sharp edges on the disc and is painful to listen to. And I'm not just talking about the Nickelback song my cousin gave me. Is there a way to substitute this with a common household object, or something I can pick up for free?

Low-cost hearing aid for someone old

I know an old person--well, okay, my mom--who refuses to wear an in-ear hearing aid, even though she clearly needs it. For whatever reasons, she thinks its too expensive/too invasive/doesn't want to be bothered, even though Medicaid would probably pay for it etc. Not wanting to be reduced to shouting like I'm on an aircraft deck, I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions as to some sort of inexpensive amplifying device I could rig from some some more or less readily available parts. I'm envisioning something like the old style opera glasses on a long handle, though of course this device would be held to the ear (maybe like the old fashioned ear trumpet come to think of it). This way it wouldn't be too much of a hassle for her. I'm suggesting this arrangement rather than headphones of some sort, which again would isolate her (visually) from the rest of the folks at the old age home. If she could just hold something to her ear when she wanted to hear/converse and then drop it when she doesn't want to be clued in...well, that might be the way to proceed. As usual, low-cost design wins, as I don't have that much to spend. Thanks!

My accordion!

I received an accordion from my dad not too long ago, it is a very old model that he received from one of his patients (he's a neurologist) who was a polka player. I've been teaching myself by ear and can play a few songs already using the keyboard side. The other side has 120 bass buttons that confuzzle me. Since the accordion is older is takes a lot more pumping when I'm trying to learn songs by ear so I was wondering if there was a way to attach a vacuum pump or something to make it work without the pumping motion while I'm trying to figure out notes. The accordion has various holes on it that I believe let air in and out.

Cold Cathode Tube Voltage and Speaker Questions

My brother has some cold cathode tubes, some about 6" long, some about 12" or more. I was thinking of hooking them up to my bike, as shown in one of the great Instructables here, but I wasn't sure of the voltage. I don't want to over-power the tube, and bust it. Plus, the two wires coming out of it are in this black connector, so I don't know which is positive or negative. The tubes put out blue light, if that makes any difference.I have an old sports radio, which works pretty good and could be turned up really loud. I desoldered the speaker, and hooked it up to a pair of wires coming from a head phone jack. I plugged it into my iPod, expecting loudness, but no - I had to hold it up to my ear, on full volume, to hear it. Is it because the iPod isn't outputting as much voltage or current to the speaker as my radio was? The radio used 3 AA. I really wanted a portable speaker that actually put out big sound, so I didn't have to have those buds stuck in my ear. Thanks y'all!

That reminds me one time I got a bead stuck up my nose it was up so far you couldn't feel it if you stuck your finger as far up as you could. that night I went to a hospital and it took 4 nurses to hold me down while they stuck small vacuums up my nose. ( I was actually over powering the nurses and I was only 7 years old.) I could see blood going up the vacuums tubes.... all failed that night so I want home and went to bed. the next morning my mom took me to a eyes nose and ears doctor ad he just numbed my nose with a little dropper and suck a piece of curved metal up there (I still screamed a lot but I tried not too move) and hooked it around the bead and he pulled it right out. one try. it felt so weird with that thing up my nose. on the way home my mom took me to toys 'R' us and bought me two lego sets. recording photo frame mod to mini amp/speakers

I bought a little recording photo frame at Walmart tonight for $2.88. Sadly someone had been testing it and the batteries are dead, so I can't check the volume til I can get new ones. What I'm wondering is whether anyone had altered one of these or something similar to make it mini amp w/speaker. I'm wanting to install something like this in some small stringed instruments(dulcimers) I'm making that don;t have much volume on their own. I've looked at all the altoid ideas and mini amps and mini speakers, but didn't see anything that would do what I need. Most were just for ipods. I did see one that used a spy ear and that's what gave me the idea for this. I have one of the cheap little clear plastic spy ears somewhere, but couldn't find it tonight I would be ok for picking up the sound, but I don;t think mounting the earphones on the instrument would give enough sound. The soundbox on my larger. dulcimers did ampllfy some earphones I got at Dollar Tree, but not much. I would add pics of the circuit board of this recorder, but my camera is dead. I would really appreciate any help with this. I need to keep the cost down as much as possible in order to keep the dulcimers affordable. The ones I am making are more a novelty item, so I can't price them too high.

Old headphones made into speakers

Hey guys. If you want to cur the crap skip to the third paragraph. So I found this speaker in a voice recorded message greetings card thing and it's pretty loud for it's size, so I decided to put it in place of a headphone on my old iPod headphones. I Took apart the right bud and soldered the + - wires to the speaker, and it worked first time. My problem is now that some songs have say guitar coming through the right speaker and bass through the left. I decided to try and mount the speaker below the split. The thing is, I'm not sure which are the + and - wires. I know that speakers work by changing between + and - to make the diaphragm move, but when I mounted the speaker where the ear bud was, it was easy as there were 2 wires. Below the split there are 4. So my question is. Does it matter what 2 wires I pair together to solder at one port? The colours are Blue, Red, Green, and Red/Green intwined.

portable phone speaker/mic

Ok, so I have a portable phone and would like to create some sort of hands-free speaker/mic for it. I'm not sure how to go about doing it and I'm not very internal-electronic-savvy (i.e. chipsets, soldering etc). Ideally, I would assume it should be connectible via the 2.5mm headphone jack. I have an old 2.5mm headset. It's got an ear bud and flexible arm microphone and connects via 2.5mm jack. I should also have some old computer speakers lying around somewhere. I assume that's all I should need. I would like the microphone to be part of the device and be functional, but not sure if it will pick up my voice from a far distance. I'm not too concerned about looks/style, but would be a nice addition. Functionality is my first concern right now, although I do have a few old Fossil watch containers that I could put the speaker(s) in and some sort of dock or rest for the portable phone would be nice as well. If soldering is involved, I will need very detailed instructions. Thanks again! I hope someone can help me. If someone knows of a fairly inexpensive product, I would be willing to buy (since I'm not very soldering-savvy as I said above), but I think this would be an interesting project to build.

Decimator Crossbow (v7)

Well I finally got some more pieces, more still coming; this enabled me to build something bigger =dThis crossbow(more like cannon, now) has the following specs:Ammo: 1 Standard arrow, which needs to be ductaped other wise torn to shreds.Weight: 4,5 kilo's (9,92 pounds)Range: Not tested outside, will beat the Reaper and the Blockhead for sure.Rubberbands: 32, 8 strings of 4 ( these may still be increased as it shows no bending yet.)Power: Just look at 2nd picture....should explain a lot.Trigger: Same as on the Blockhead, some big improvements on it though.(Surprised about how power much it can take...)Sturdiness: Seems close to unbreakable lol...Without realizing..I also made a very good scope on it o.oI had a purple+blue 3d connector as arrow tip and when I fired on my cardboard box, it made a huge tear...and my ears were ringing like from an explosion O.o'Well this monster has bad points:Need a long/strong left arm if you are right-handed, because this thing is heavy as hell.Cannot fire without trigger.Every arrow needs ductape otherwise connector gets torn off. Also I gonna try and say...:I think this may very well be the most powerful ranged k'nex weapon on this site at the moment.

Instructables Internship - Day 8

Wednesday: Jason's Last v_vToday was Jason's (derangedmoose7) Last Day, so we pretty much just spent all of it working on Project X. It's come along so far, it's truly quite amazing how quickly it was originally put together and how long it's taking to tweak it in order to get what we really want. I feel bad keeping Proj. X a secret from all of you, it would be awesome to tell you what we're doing every day, but It's gotta be kept a secret until it's released.By the way, Wednesday was my and Noah's salad club day. Unfortunately, I forgot to bring the muffin stuffs... AGAIN.... I'm such an idiot....Luckily, Noah brought salad stuffs and we made lunch together, again, I got to chop! I also played around with my solar panels a bit, diffusing the LEDs and getting new LEDs, too. I made one earring, but it doesn't work very well... The LEDs light, but they're not bright... at all. I'm thinking about putting a cap on there so that they charge, and then some sort of tansistor that will clamp when there isn't sufficient light, the LED's flash for a split second, grabbing everyone's attention. Sounds good, doesn't it?!Hmmm... what else? I was planning on playing with the laser cutter today, but alas, I was working on Proj. X with Jason, that that'll have to wait for tomorrow. OH! THAT'S RIGHT! I made the Badge templates Wednesday night! HOW COULD I FORGET ABOUT THOSE?well, going out to see scenic Oakland. gotta go!Cheers,-Muffinator

Old Stereo headset found, but it has an odd array of solder points and i can't seem to get any sound, any ideas? Answered

Hi there! I recently found two old sony headphone speakers, but i can't seem to get any sound out of them. It's a standard L/R speaker set that was enclosed into each ear piece. The odd thing is though that there are 8 solder points on the speaker pieces. One which is black blobbed and two that are white blobbed (i'm assuming it's to prevent shorts). Two wires are connected to two of the solder points (they don't seem insulated though...) I've tried various connection methods to make them produce any kind of sound, but nothing happens. I'm assuming they still work because they look intact, but...well any ideas? I don't have any expertice with audio equipment, but i do have basic electronics experience... I know it's kind of an odd question, but i'd really like to use these speakers and i wanted to make sure i wasn't doing anything wrong. Basically i've been trying to connect various music players to a mini jack port using a microphone mini jack cable (seems to work for all other purposes) and then tried to connect the speaker wires to the jack port solder points (in various ways).I'm probably going to feel really stupid as the answer is probably really simple x3 I hope it makes sense!i should probably specify that the main problem is that i can't get any audio output from them, aka. they're silent no matter what i hook them up to

Fridge conversion anyone?

When I see my local scrap dealer I can't overlook the amount of well looked after chest freezers and fridges.I already found out that most either have a failed thermostat or failed heating element for the evaporation of the water during auto defrost cycles. So I started to think about converting a nice and small chest freezer for 12V use.A first check for available 12V compressors showed that they cost an arm and a leg.DIY with a 12 air compressor is out of the question for safety reasons and the fact that these toys are not ment to handle these conditions. My next stop was Youtube and I found some teardown and scrapping of fridge compressors. These things are actually so dead simple in design that without the enclosure we would need ear protection all day long. But durablitly is often really simple, sadly this mean anything to use a frequency generator or similar is not only inefficient but will fail on a condesator motor. However, these motors are quite bulky...In therory it should be possible remove all stator and mains voltage bits to make room around the rotor. And from that we really only need the axle and bearing mounts.Am I thinking too simple? What would stop someone from using a suitable sized brushless DC motor with couplings to the cut orginal axle?Modern, small compressors often use less than 200W, so how hard can it be?Disclaimer:I am aware of the legal side of things and such mods are nothing a tradesman would sign off for.But I do wonder and like to tinker to prove a point or theory ;)

Expriment : Lucid Dreaming #1

.Hi there. For those of you who don't know what's "Lucid dreaming", it's the ability to take the control of a dream by becoming fully aware in it, and to "visit" this alternate reality. (Note : GuyFrom7up made a instructable about an experimental lucid dream machine here )In most of our dreams, we're simple spectators. In fantasy, our imagination has to do all the work.In "lucid dreaming", the "dream world" is not generated by the same aware part of the brain that manages "imagination". The "dream world" is created "somewhere else" in our subconscious. So, becoming aware into this "dream world" is like an immersion into a video-game, or a virtual reality ...It is said that our awareness has the ability to change the content of this "virtual reality", that we are able to "create" objects just by imagining them, and that we can touch and manipulate them like if they were real, etc ...(it would be possible to write books or compose complete symphonies there for instance)I've just experienced my first lucid dream this morning. It was not a frightening experience at all. Thanks to it, I learned a lot about myself. When you're starting to sleep, a lot of random pictures and scenes appears in your mind. Most of them don't make sense at all ... Most of the time, when your brain tries to understand them as they appear, this interrupt them and you wake-up.When they come back, if your brain is too tired to analyse them, then, they "catch you" and you fall asleep. If you manage to "watch" them without interrupting them, your awareness will "follow" them, and you'll become aware into them.During my experience, I noticed something very interesting : My "awareness" was kind of separated in two parts : - there was my bad side who was controlling my "dream body" and acted like an evil entity who had just escaped from hell ................- and there was my wise side who was silently witnessing my other-side doing "evil things" ...(both were into the same dream body though. They were just thinking independently, like if they were no more mixed together, like if they were both "pure" ...)And at one moment, my wise side said : «Come on , look at what you're doing ...»And then, I had the choice to continue, or to wake up. And I woke up.Then, the question I asked to myself was : « who is aware ? »(or in other words : did I noticed, thanks to this experience, that my awareness of the everyday life is, in fact, a composite of two "struggling forces" of opposite nature, mixed together and acting like one in a same body, and separating from each others during the sleep ?)Also, this first experience was very unstable :- it was difficult to remain into this "dream world", because the awareness tends to use physical senses (physical eyes, physical ears, etc) instead of the "dream senses", and the dream tends to fade ...- also, I noticed that the dream was not clear and bright, probably because my "physical sight" and my "dream sight" were mixed together (there was some light into my bedroom that was filtering through my eyelids)That was a very interesting experience. I will try again, with the hope that my "evil side" will calm down a little and will let my wise side explore that inner universe in more serious way ............. =o)

Perfecting DIY dog boot? (Any cobbler gurus out there?)

Hi, I have a dog who I adopted off the street who has a stub for a paw. The padding on his stub is deformed and since he has not toes/claw he is always getting this stub cut up when he runs around (just barely more than a year old and runs around like a nut). He is a real sweetheart and a big lug at the same time (100lbs) which has made it a bit more of a challenge. (I tried to put the photos inline with the post but when i tried to publish the whole post was blank so I just attached them). Design Issues Sleeve/leg durability To resolve this problem I have been trying to make a shoe that will #1 Actually stay on snugly and #2 Last more than a few weeks. It has been an evolution starting off with bought doggie “booties” which were pretty much worthless, to a old indestructible (until now) hiking sock + “shoe goo” to a sewn nylon sleeve thingy + shoe goo. This is the best we have been able to come up with as he destroys (since he is so active), I was going to go to the dump to see if I could get some used airbag material as I had made a dog bed cover from the stuff before (previous dog who was hell bent on digging through her rubber foam bed) and it was friggin bullet proof. Keeping it on So the shoe goo + nylon sock is the closes we have come so far, the sock/sleeve part kind of works because it allows us to “strap it on” above his hock so it doesn’t slip down/off, that worked great when we were using a softer material but this more durable nylon stuff (from an old suit travel bag) seriously rubs around his hock, I am guess I will try some sort of padding (shoe insole?) around the inside where we strap it on, bulky but just using a thick sock to provide a protection wasn’t enough. I’m not in the US (or a western country) at the moment so I haven’t been able to get my hands on proper Velcro and the Velcro I managed to get he has decimated (I think mostly due to crappy Velcro but also again his just scraping up against just about everything) so I was going to try a belt of sorts but am hoping someone has a better idea. Durable Sole that Stays on Shoe goo is the best we have come up with so far for a sole as everything else I tried just didn’t work (tried rubber pipe stopper thingy, Ear Bulb Syringe, modified mini-plunger) either because they didn’t fit how he walks on that foot (can’t describe it but a ball type shape is needed) or they were too hard to affix to a sleeve in a way that they would stay. The best version we have come up with so far has involved the afore mentioned nylon sleeve (durability) with shoe goo smeared in layers on the end. This has been workable but the shoe goo doesn’t stick to the material as well as I would like and is starting to come off after about 2 months. As with the other issues, any suggestions would be appreciated!

What's the best way to bend coat hanger wire, for making a DIY GameKlip?

So I discovered my Samsung Galaxy S3 supports USB gamepads.  Well long story short, I quickly hacked apart an old original Xbox controller, replaced its 10 foot xbox cable with a 1 inch USB cable, and it works GREAT in most gamepad-supported Android games like Dead Trigger and Shadowgun.  The next obvious move was to make a holder to attach my phone to the gamepad, to have a portable gaming device, like an nVidia Shield.  Now I know commercial solutions exist, like the Gameklip, but they're all designed for the PS3 controller, which I don't have. So I've attached pictures of my first two versions.  The first picture showing the regular coat hanger wire wrapped in black electrical tape.  It held the phone just fine, but it was butt ugly, because I used electrical tape to protect the phone from the steel coat hanger wire.  So I made a second one (2nd picture), using a rubber/plastic coated coat hanger, thinking it would look better, because I wouldn't need to wrap it in electrical tape. Well the problem is that I'm so horribly bad at bending wire, and at planning, and measuring, that I had to make so many corrections, that it too looks butt ugly.  It's a completely different design than the first one, for starters.  I can never think of how to design these things on paper.  I always just get a rough idea in my head, and then play it by ear as I go along.  But because steel coat hanger wire is so incredibly tough, every time I try to bend it with pliers, or a vice grip, I end up damaging the nice plastic coating, making it look ugly.  Multiply that by the number of times I had to make corrections, and well, you can see the result.  The second design is the one I'd like to stick with, however.  Mechanically speaking, it is perfect.  Two nubs on the bottom, and a nub on the left and right sides, hold the phone in place using gravity and friction.  Then the whole thing uses spring-tension to compress the left and right nubs inwards, squeezing the phone in place, but without letting these nubs get in the way of the USB port or the headphone port.  One can adjust the width and tension of these left and right nubs, just by squeezing or stretching them apart, to fit different sized phones and cases.  Finally, two support legs are left at the end of the wire to easily place the whole thing on a table. Both versions are attached to the controller in the same way:  I started with two loops, as small as I could make them, right next to each other.  Then I just bolt the whole thing to the controller through those two loops, and two holes I've drilled in the controller's memory slot.  It's an incredible pain in the ass to try and get the nut and washer in the tiny amount of space in that memory card slot, but I managed to do it twice. I want to build a third, good looking one.  So now I've gone out and invested in some proper, straight steel wire (of the same thickness and stiffness as the coat hanger wire), and some heat-shrink tubing to protect the phone from the steel.  But I need advice on how to do this properly, so that it looks good.  The only way I can use the heat-shrink tubing, is to put it on FIRST, BEFORE bending the wire.  I couldn't possibly imagine how to do it AFTER bending the wire.  But the problem is, I'm worried that my vice grips/pliers will damage it the same way they damaged the plastic coating of the coat hanger. Any suggestions/tips would be greatly appreciated!

Dragon Samurai chapter 2

Hi! I decided I would post every chapter I do instead of just the first so here's the second chapter! Enjoy! Chapter 2 The traveller After eating some delicious noodles we decided to go to my house. I expected my mother would shout at me because I hadn’t made my bed, but when I got home there was a very different response. My mother looked very frightened. Suddenly my father walked in. He too was a samurai. He was dressed in samurai’s armour and had a katana and a wakizashi (Samurai sword and dagger) which were placed in their sheaths. He only wore the armour in an emergency and in times of war and the expression on his face told me that there was bad news. “Pack your bags, Ryu,” he said. “It’s time for you to go to the dojo.” “What?” I asked in disbelief. “Go and pack your bags,” he repeated. “Hiroshi, you must also get ready. Go home to your father who is waiting for you.” “Yes, sir,” he replied. Hiroshi never questioned my father’s decisions. “Father?” I started. “Do not question me, Ryu. Now go and get ready.” Hiroshi ran out the door and I went to my room and opened my cupboard. Inside were all my kimonos and my bokken (wooden sword). I grabbed my favourite ones and came back to where my father was waiting. I didn’t have time to say goodbye to any of my friends. We walked outside where my father’s horse stood ready. “Hello, Diamond,” I said. He whinnied when he saw me and put his head under my arms so that I could pat him. I scratched his ears while my father prepared the saddle. We named him Diamond because of the diamond shaped mark on his forehead. The white stallion was very rare and my father was lucky to have found him. I still remember the first time we met Diamond. My father and I were travelling on a large dirt road when it started to rain. The road quickly turned to mud so we took shelter under some trees. Hearing a sad whinny, I looked around and found a white stallion lying in the mud. I turned my father’s gaze to the horse and we walked over to it. It was only half awake and had a huge cut in its side. We brought it back to our stables and healed its wounds. It became fond of us so we decided to keep him. He was easily the fastest horse in the city. Back to the present, we set out on the road to the dojo. As we left the city I could see almost everything from the palace down to the pier. The gardens at the top of the hill were full of flowers and shrubs. It was bordered on two sides by a thick hedge. The pagoda was in the middle for people to visit. I realized that I had never actually visited the garden. There were many things I hadn’t visited in the last fourteen years. I would miss the beach with its crystal clear waters and sandy shores. I’d miss the constant movement of the waves. I’d miss my mother and younger sister. I’d especially miss all the friends I had. Leaving Hiroshi would hurt dearly. As we travelled I helped Diamond’s tail to flick away the flies. Diamond galloped so swiftly that it was comfortable riding him. The white stallion sped past villages and mountains until we arrived at a forest. The entrance to the forest was shrouded in mist and there was complete silence. Entering cautiously we heard a weak yelp. My father stopped and stared in the direction of the sound. I dismounted and walked toward the faint voice. My father told me to take my bokken. He always thought that curiosity was a great teacher. I got closer and heard a twitch. Behind a small bush a girl was lying unconscious. She looked about my age- fourteen or fifteen, maybe? She had a deep cut in here wrist that seemed to be from sometime of weapon. She had a large bump on her head which must have left her unconscious. The thing that really surprised me was her hair. It was the colour of gold. I called my father over to see. He stared at the girl and then picked her up. “The healers from the dojo will be able to heal her wounds,” he said. “Put her on your lap and make sure she does not fall of the horse.” I laid her on the horse and put my bokken between me and the saddle holding the girl in place. We continued our journey through the woods without another word. Halfway through the forest the girl started to wake up. She had crystal blue eyes that stared straight at me. “Danger,” she said before drifting back into unconsciousness. I had a bad feeling about this.

John Cleese's "Letter To America"

Forwarded along by an Aussie. Enjoy.Dear Citizens of America,In view of your failure to elect a competent President and thus to govern yourselves, we hereby give notice of the revocation of your independence, effective immediately. Her Sovereign Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, will resume monarchical duties over all states, commonwealths and other territories (except Kansas, which she does not fancy), as from Monday next.Your new prime minister, Gordon Brown, will appoint a governor for America without the need for further elections. Congress and the Senate will be disbanded. A questionnaire may be circulated next year to determine whether any of you noticed. To aid in the transition to a British Crown Dependency, the following rules are introduced with immediate effect:1. You should look up "revocation" in the Oxford English Dictionary. Then look up "aluminium," and check the pronunciation guide. You will be amazed at just how wrongly you have been pronouncing it.2. The letter "U" will be reinstated in words such as "colour", "favour" and "neighbour." Likewise, you will learn to spell "doughnut" without skipping half the letters, and the suffix "-ize" will be replaced by the suffix "-ise."3. You will learn that the suffix "burgh" is pronounced "burra"; you may elect to spell Pittsburgh as "Pittsberg" if you find you simply can't cope with correct pronunciation.4. Generally, you will be expected to raise your vocabulary to acceptable levels (look up "vocabulary"). Using the same twenty-seven words interspersed with filler noises such as "like" and "you know" is an unacceptable and inefficient form of communication.5. There is no such thing as "US English." We will let Microsoft know on your behalf. The Microsoft spell-checker will be adjusted to take account of the reinstated letter "u" and the elimination of "-ize."6. You will relearn your original national anthem, "God Save The Queen," but only after fully carrying out Task #1 (see above).7. July 4th will no longer be celebrated as a holiday. November 2nd willbe a new national holiday, but to be celebrated only in England. It will be called "Come-Uppance Day." 8. You will learn to resolve personal issues without using guns, lawyers or therapists. The fact that you need so many lawyers and therapists shows that you're not adult enough to be independent. Guns should only be handled by adults. If you're not adult enough to sort things out without suing someone or speaking to a therapist then you're not grown up enough to handle a gun.9. Therefore, you will no longer be allowed to own or carry anything more dangerous than a vegetable peeler. A permit will be required if you wish to carry a vegetable peeler in public.10. All American cars are hereby banned. They are crap and this is for your own good. When we show you German cars, you will understand what we mean.11. All intersections will be replaced with roundabouts, and you will start driving on the left with immediate effect. At the same time, you will go metric immediately and without the benefit of conversion tables. Both roundabouts and metrification will help you understand the British sense of humour.12. The Former USA will adopt UK prices on petrol (which you have been calling "gasoline") - roughly $8/US per gallon. Get used to it.13. You will learn to make real chips. Those things you call french fries are not real chips, and those things you insist on calling potato chips are properly called "crisps." Real chips are thick cut, fried in animal fat, and dressed not with catsup but with malt vinegar.14. Waiters and waitresses will be trained to be more aggressive with customers.15. The cold tasteless stuff you insist on calling beer is not actually beer at all. Henceforth, only proper British Bitter will be referred to as "beer," and European brews of known and accepted provenance will be referred to as "Lager." American brands will be referred to as "Near-Frozen Gnat's Urine," so that all can be sold without risk of further confusion.16. Hollywood will be required occasionally to cast English actors as good guys. Hollywood will also be required to cast English actors as English characters. Watching Andie MacDowell attempt English dialogue in "Four Weddings and a Funeral" was an experience akin to having one's ear removed with a cheese grater.17. You will cease playing American "football." There is only one kind of proper football; you call it "soccer." Those of you brave enough, in time, will be allowed to play rugby (which has some similarities to American "football," but does not involve stopping for a rest every twenty seconds or wearing full kevlar body armour like a bunch of Jessies - English slang for "Big Girls Blouse").18. Further, you will stop playing baseball. It is not reasonable to host an event called the "World Series" for a game which is not played outside of America. Since only 2.1% of you are aware that there is a world beyond your borders, your error is understandable and forgiven.19. You must tell us who killed JFK. It's been driving us mad.20. An internal revenue agent (i.e. tax collector) from Her Majesty's Government will be with you shortly to ensure the acquisition of all monies due, backdated to 1776.Thank you for your co-operation.John CleeseLink

Dragon Samurai Chapter 3

Here's the third Chapter. The plot is thickening! :-) PLease tell me if there's anything that could be improved! Chapter 3 The dojo It took another few hours before we actually reached the dojo. The girl with the golden hair had come in and out of consciousness during the day. Clouds were starting to surround us and we weren’t far away from the entrance. I was about to ask my dad a question when a kunai shot past my ear and stuck into the ground. I turned my head around to meet a rain of kunai and shuriken. “Father,” I cried. He barely turned his head an inch before catching sight of the ninja weapons. We broke into a gallop and barely escaped the deadly blades of the kunai and shuriken. One shuriken was aimed straight at the girl. I took my bokken and deflected the ninja star. I had practised sword defence several times with my father. Not a second past when a second wave of weapons was launched form the trees. My father drew his katana and deflected several shurikens and I did my best with my bokken. A kunai embedded itself in my bokken and a shuriken grazed my cheek. I winced and held my cheek feeling the warm blood seep out of my veins. We were now metres away from the dojo’s entrance. No ninja would dare enter it. My dad called to the guards to open the gate and they obeyed. The gate creaked open and we rushed in. The gate closed and several kunai and shuriken clanged against the metal gate. Inside the dojo we were safe from any attack. I breathed heavily as I got off the horse. I got the girl down from the horse while clutching my cheek which was still bleeding. My father ordered me to take the girl to the healers. I walked through the dojo admiring the amazing buildings and statues. There was a beautiful fountain in the garden full of birds bathing themselves. I continued walking until I was walking past the training halls. Curious heads popped out of the halls and gasped at the girl with golden hair. The pupils soon returned to their training when the sensei hit one student’s shins with his walking stick. The young boy winced and held his legs. I had a feeling that the sensei’s hit was harder than it looked. We soon arrived at the healing quarters. I laid the girl in one of the beds and a lady carrying medicine rushed into the healing quarters. She quickly opened a door and placed the medicine on one of the benches inside the room. She came out of the room and noticed that I was standing next to the bed here I had laid the girl. “Oh, I am truly sorry for my rushing,” she said. “Now what do we have here.” “My father and I found her unconscious in a forest near here,” I started. “She’s been coming in and out of consciousness during our journey.” She observed the girl and felt the pulse of her blood. “Her blood circulation is running normally. She doesn’t seem to have a fever.” She performed several other medical procedures before she looked at me and said, “She just needs to rest. You on the other hand need to clean your cheek to prevent infection. Run along now.” I bowed and went to the bathrooms to clean my cheek. Inside I found someone I really didn’t expect to see. “Ryu!” cried Hiroshi. “What are you doing here, Hiroshi?” I asked amazed by his presence. “I’m here to train just like you. What happened to your cheek?” “We were attacked on our way here. A shuriken grazed my cheek.” “You also got a kunai in your bokken.” I looked down at my wooden sword. I took out the kunai which had put a hole straight through the bokken. I sighed. I’ll need a new one. I washed my face and told Hiroshi about our journey here. I explained how we found the girl and were attacked by ninjas. Every now and then he would gasp or gulp but I didn’t mind. Once you’ve lived with Hiroshi for over five years you get used to what he does. He always interrupted sentences with a mumble or yawn or any other type of noise including noise that didn’t come out of his mouth. A bell rang in the distance. It was time for dinner. I could smell the cooked rice and the chicken and my mouth started watering. We walked to the dining hall and sat down about halfway down the left side of the table. The teachers sat up on a raised table and my father was sitting on the far right. He was staring straight to the forest. His expression was hard to decipher but he seemed worried and I had a feeling that it had something to do with the ninjas that attacked us. The man in the centre of the raised table stood up and the hall went completely quiet. “Today we welcome several new students to our dojo,” he shouted in a superior tone. “For those of you who are new, I am Sensei Masako. Some of you may already have heard that the Emperor has been kidnapped by the ninjas. The dojo will be doing its best to help in any way possible. Be aware that this will NOT interrupt your training. Without further ado, let us begin to eat our meal.” Within ten seconds everyone was eating their food and talking to friends. My father ate and conversed with some of the sensei’s at the table but every now and then he would stare out into the forest. Something sinister is going on and I had a feeling that the kidnapped emperor was the least of our problems.

The low-down: Where have I been?

It may be a bit narcissistic for me to think anyone missed me or even noticed I was gone, but for those of you that did notice heres the low-down.Without a doubt, the time I spent working at Instructables last summer was the most fun I have ever had in my life. It was the perfect combination of working among smart creative individuals ( Eric, Christy, Tim, Paul, and Noah), having such an open ended job where I was actually paid to do what I love, and being in bright sunny free thinking northern California. The cherry on top of this summer of awesomeness was going to Burning Man (see pic below). It was something I had wanted to do ever since I had read about it online many years ago, and, as fate would have it, I ended up going the first year I was actually old enough to.I don't think I am ever going to forget driving Tim's manual truck (I don't know how to drive stick) on a deserted road in Nevada, at 3:30 am Sunday morning, the energy drinks wearing off and Tim sleeping peacefully in the passenger seat, while it rained intermittently, with only a vague idea where I was going, and doing this all with just a NY state learners permit. Nor will I forget getting my first sight of the playa, just as the sun was coming up, with all the massive metallic sculptures glistening on the horizion. The week that followed was just pure surreal amazingness. Anything I wrote about my first Burning Man experience wouldn't give it justice, but Tim describes it nicely in his Burning Man instructable. The most surprising thing about the summer though, was that by the end of it I actually looked forward to going back to school. I wanted to learn circuit building and other cool electrical engineering skills that I could incorporate into my future Instructables projects. I wanted to be able to post impressive electronic projects, instead of just minor circuit hacks like the tazer glove and capacitor charger. I wanted to master the movement of the electron. One plane trip from SFO to JFK later, I'm back home. The contrast between Frisco and NY was staggering. If there was one word to describe how NY looked to me at that time it would be "gray". The experience was like watching the Wizard of Oz in reverse, going from the bright, colorful, surreal land of Oz back to black and white Kansas. Don't get me wrong, I love my hometown. I am of the opinion that NYC is the single greatest city in the world (California wins as a state, but in terms of a single city nothing can compare to NY). If you don't agree with me, stand in the center of the Brooklyn Bridge and turn around to get a full 360 degree perspective. Your opinion will be swayed if not changed. Still, September 07 was a very gray month for me. It took me a few weeks to wade through the bureaucratic bullshit of Brooklyn Poly and finally get registered for classes. The classes I did get registered for were all prerequisites and nowhere near my area of interest. I know I am going to have to suck it up and complete them eventually (especially now that my school has merged with NYU, so I get to graduate with a much more impressive degree then the school I was originally accepted into), but at the time I was just too miserable and distracted to pay attention in class. It was even hard for me to respond to e-mails from summertime coworkers because hearing about the activities at the tower brought back memories of a happier time. I was in a state of near-complete mental shutdown, my creativity was shot, and I was depressed. I decided that I needed to take a break from school, so I took a leave of absence for the Spring semester. That leave of absence bought me a time period of 8 months to do whatever I wanted. I figure why not live out my weaboo fantasy, and travel to Japan. I can not say exactly when my obsession with Japanese culture began. Maybe it was subconsciously planted in my brain with the cherry tree in front of my childhood home, cultivated with anime, and brought to fruition when I actually started reading about their history and culture. Whatever the reason, it has been something I've always wanted to do, and what better time to "find myself" then while on a break from college (Its stereotypical-tastic!). There was only one obstacle standing between me and the romantic imagery I had of bathing in hot-springs and meditating in front of Shinto shrines ... money, at least a few thousand dollars of it. Japan aint cheap, and even if I was going to get a job to support me while I was there, I would still need a butt-load of money for the initial travel and living investment. (On that note if any of you Instructablites knows someone in Japan who you could get me in touch with regarding job opportunities or living quarters, or has some advice for living cheaply while there, I'm all ears) I spent most of January half-assedly looking for a job. I did not devote my whole ass to the task because, no matter how much I wanted to go to Japan, I wasn't too excited about the prospect of getting a minimum wage job which utilized none of my skills (I have very unique skills, so finding a job that used them would be next to impossible). It was looking as though my next few months would be filled with minimum wage menial labor. That is until I thought of throwing myself on the mercy of Eric and Christy, and asking for my old job back. I lacked the testicular fortitude to ask them directly, and so reverting to grade school mentality (the one that figures rejection will hurt less through proxy), I asked Tim to test the waters and see if my old job was still available (grade school version: Psst Tim, I've got a crush on Eric & Christy ::school girl giggles:: can you ask if they like me). Tim was kind enough to oblige. A few e-mails later I found out I could come back as long as I promised to return to school in September. (This was no problem because I had already made the same promise to my parents, and myself because I didn't want to loose my 20k a year scholarship). One plane trip at the end of February from JFK to OAK later, I'm back in California. My longterm goal for the next few months is to live as cheaply as possible, learn Japanese, and try to acquire some work that I can do while in Japan. Living cheaply has been easier then expected. I quit smoking (something I thought would be much harder then it was, but after two months of lukewarm-turkey I was able to eliminate my nicotine cravings entirely). I am able to feed myself almost entirely off the excess of others, with the occasional purchased produce being the exception. I bike for transportation (that same yellow road bike in the picture below). I'd say that overall, it took more effort to stop being a consumer-whore then it did to quit smoking, but it feels equally good to be free of both of those bad habits. Well thats my story. I should probably get back to work.New instructables coming soon ...

Can you make this game?

I am working on a game last 7 years. I need coders for making this game. I will just give you game idea, you will do the job and you will gain the money. I am played all of games and watching game videos everyday. So game designing is my job, you just read my idea. This game will be a turn based strategy, MMO, open world, crafting, starving, pvp, pve, dungeon blah blah game. I cant make this game as a board game bcause it is too complex and requires calculations. So it cant be funny as a board game bcause causes headache. This game has an unique combat system and strange classes and races like turtle, rhino, ninja, runner, mantis...... So you can play as everything. Some characters can fly, swim, run; depends on what you are playing as. Every turn everybody moves at same time. After that everybody attacks to each other at same time. And cycle repeats. You can order to your character "be that much near to target" and it always tries to be that much near to enemy. Server does this calculation automaticly. Lets see what i designed: CYBER Cyber is a robot looks like human but its made all of steel. So its metalic gray colored. Its dark. It is a serial killer. Hates everything, even itself. He is male but he have no gender. His strongest attack is COMET CANNON. Causes a explosion which will kill the target and damage the who arounds it. Cyber can kill its friends while shooting stuff. ZERO POINT is stronger than Comet Cannon and if you shoot it you will lose all of your HP so this spell consumes HP; its deals same damage to everyone in explosion and this spell always deals damage but enemies will divide damage with their FLE so enemies with high FLE will take less damage. After Zero Point; damaged tiles will damage to who stay on them with heat. GATLING GUN spell deals damage with bullets. Damage will be increased every turn but its MP cost will also increase. You cant move while shooting with Gatling Gun. Also nothing will miss you while you using this spell but %100 of your FLE will become DMG. And your movespeed will become your HIT but only half of it. Also while using this noisy spells your hiding will decrease so enemies can see you from even more faraway. Cyber uses bullets and rockets while using its spells and it gets out of ammo. Ammo will refill 10 turns after an empty turn(nothing attacks you and you attack to nothing). Gatling Gun deals area damage so you can shoot many targets at same time. PAILDRAMON GUNS: If you still didnt mention all of Cyber spells are stolen from digimon and gunslinger of Ragnarök online so this skill is same. So he takes rifles from inside of his calfs and shoot the enemy. You cant use this spell if you moved this turn so you cant move. You can shoot the target until miss it so this spell can be used again after you used it if it hits target. It has more hit than Gatling Gun and it can only shoot 1 target. TWIN STINGERS: you shoot 2 stingers from your nipples. Its a divided attack but stingers must be locked to same target. If they miss target, next turn they will try to hit it again. Enemy can attack to stingers for destroying them but stingers have 0 HP and %500 of your FLE also you must destroy stingers 1 by 1. ROCKET RAIN: using this spell causes you to use all of your ammo. You release all of your firepower as mini stingers. They will randomly attack every enemy they can reach. Missed stingers will hit each other and get destroyed. This attack have high HIT but low DMG. ROCKET STRIKE: you shoot a giant rocket from your arm. Its most basic attack of cyber but it costs too much MP and ammo and have low HIT, but still great for dealing damage to 1 enemy and killing full damage build noobies. PUNCH CANNON: cyber can longer his arms for punching enemy. Really stupid but requires no ammo; also it is ranged. JET BLOW: cyber flies really fast by using his jets and punches enemy from its belly. Bcause of he is so badass, blood comes out from enemy’s body. This spell gets used for reaching enemy and starts melee fight. PUNCH: you punch the enemy. If you dont miss, you can punch next turn. You can only punch three times in a combo, so after that Punch goes cooldown. Bcause of his Punches reducing targets FLE for next turn and dealing massive damage and also dealing damage to targets MP; its Punches consumes too much MP. If you can Punch enemy 3 times after each other; 3rd punch will make enemy unable to move. ENERGY SHIELD: the robot creates an energy field like every mechs doing in Sci-Fi movies so why not? When enemy attacks you it will hit your MP with multiplied by %150 damage. If you turn off your shield you will lose all of your MP and MPR, HPR for next turn and you will gain +%50 HIT, +%50 FLE. The turn after that turn your MP will comeback so you can use your spells again. Also shield will turn off when you reach 0 MP. Than next 2 turns you cant turn on your shield. LIGHTNING JOLT: if you use this spell after turning off Energy Shield you will deal +%50 more damage. And your unexist mana can be consumed for this skill. You shoot lightning which one deals damage to all enemies. If there is less enemy it will deal more damage. This lightning will firstly damage enemy’s FLE for next turn and if it can make FLE 0, than will deal damage HP. LIGHTNING CHARGE: It can only destroy both players MP when it used turn after when Energy Shield turned off manually. You rush to the enemy and punch it. Punch throws enemy to back based on your base speed. If you use same spell after shield off, it will not push enemy but will destroy enemy’s MP by destroying your MP. When one of you reach 0 MP, that event ends. This spell also will deal damage. METAL FORM: you already made of metal but you still want to go in metal form. Metal form is a buff will affect you for next many turns. That buff increases your AMR. Its just that. Increases your AMR for many turns. WASTE: when you die, your remaining ammo will deal damage to enemies in range. All of enemies will take random amount of damage but total damage is always same. BURST SHOOT: you shoot the target with a flamming bullet. Its just that. ARM CANNON: You shoot something unkown but also this attack always missing. When it hits, it deals too much damage for its mana cost. It may hit another random target. Sometimes it causes an explosion and hits many targets. RAINBOW CANNON: you shoot your strongest cannon three times for shooting targets. If three of them hit, it is better than Comet but mostly 1 of them miss. Base values of Cyber(elements will be added when game ends): 3 DMG 1 HIT 0,5 FLE 3 AMR 15 HP 0,5 HPR 10 MP 1 MPR What elements Cyber use? Melee(MLE), Ranged(RNG), MAGnetic, EXPlosive, BuLLet, PLAsma BLoW, WAVe, WiND, HOT, FiRE Sense’s of Cyber: %100 SEE %200 hEAR %200 HEaT %200 MAGnetic Cyber cant fly or swim, bcause of that he has 4 times more attack range than his movement. Also machines are really great ranged units. But Cyber have no ability for escaping. Cyber’s hiding values are: %50 SML %50 MAG %50 HET %0 EAR %150 SEE %200 IDE %200 SUL Cyber is good for killing low FLE and high AMR and low speed units. Cyber is strong against high DMG units.
