Launched SS carts

Dear reader, I've seen some knex rollercoasters on YouTube in which a screaming serpent cart appears to be launched by Ripping Rocket boosters. Since I own both, I was wondering how this is done, because simply leading the SS cart through those boosters won't work. Thanks for reading. Kind regards, Kaj

Distance a 12g CO2 cartridge can launch a...?

What would you say the maximum distance a 12g CO2 cartridge could launch a ~12oz cylinder? The cylinder can be adjusted be top/bottom heavy or have its weight increased all around. The design of the barrel would (VERY) roughly look like the image at the bottom.  The cartridge would be in a housing unit at the butt of the launcher.  It would be set it off in a to-be-determined way, shooting out the cylinder(2 2/5inch diameter, 8 inches long, ~12 oz) that would be resting in front of it.

NOOB homebrew on psp slim

Hey guys(and maybe girls), i just hacked my brothers psp slim. Now i am used to the phat pap where you install the 1.50 subset to get homebrew to work, but that said only for fat psp. Only some homebrew works on the slim psp, but has major issues. for instance psp revolution has no sound anywhere, and none of the bottom buttons work. I have tried both the 5.00 and 1.50 kernels in the recovery menu. Is there some patch, or homebrew launcher that i dont know about?? should i install the 1.50 kernel addon anyway? firmware is 5.00 M33-6

Ten Years

It's been nearly ten years since a load of people got excited about the year 2000 and the 21st century, what did we achieve? Well Fox changed (the logo if nothing else) from 20th to 21st 2001 Wikipedia and iPod launched, World Trade Centre demolished (by uncertain contractor). 2002 The discovery of Quoaoar leads to Pluto being declassified as a planet 2003 Facebook launched 2004 Those robots land on Mars, Indian Ocean earthquake / tsunami 2005 Instructables launched YouTube launched, New Orleans drowns. Solution to Knex P90 magazine?

Here is what I believe the solution to a great, working P90 magazine. This magazine holds many grey and blue spacers. It also will shoot them, so its also the gun at the same time. It can launch the spacers up to 20FT using 1 rubberband. It hasn't been shot using two. But this magazine/ gun could be great used on a P90. So if anybody wants to build it and start working on a P90, have at it! I'd only like the credit for this concept, thats all. And if you successfully build the P90 I'll award you with a patch! Well anyways, tell me what you think!

How can I fix my Xbox 360?

Hey,I bought my first 360 on the same day they launched but about 2 years ago it stop reading disks it just says "unreadable disk" or something similar no matter what disk I put in it. About 6 months after that I retried it on a whim and it worked and I happily played Crackdown, unfortunately after another 6 months it stopped reading again. So far I haven't gotten the red-rings of death but I'm wondering what the problem might be. As near as I can figure it must be the laser, that it's got loose and shifted so it doesn't read, then shifted back true then off again, right?

K'nex Challenge 2: 18th Sept - 11th Oct - FLIGHT

After the success of the last contest, Gmjhowe, =SMART= and myself decided we'd go for it and launch a second contest. The first we really enjoyed and saw some awesome entries. This time we've decided to make the guidelines a wee bit looser so you can use your imagination more. We'll be setting a category for you to design and build within and then provide you with some example ideas to get you started. And this category is....FLIGHTAnything plane, helicopter, glider, flight related is allowed. Please read the rules carefully.Rules:Your entry must do something. It can't just be a model of a plane or a helicopter. We want them to move or glide or have spinning parts or be functional for something else around the house but be aircraft themed.Entries must be over 50% knex. The remaining can be paper, glue, card, tissue paper.... anything! To enter, write up a full instructable of your construction process with clear pictures and descriptions. Post the link here. Please steer clear of guns. That's not what this is about.Starting and closing dates are GMT.What the judges say goes!Have fun!Judging - 12th Sept - 18th SeptSuggestions:A propellor. Small and compact, if you design a good one you might get extra kudos if your design's then used in loads of other entries.A ceiling plane. With a plastic propeller on the front and the top attached to a string to the ceiling, this plane will fly itself around in circles on a string.Paper plane launcher. Probably the closest you'll get to a gun.A vertical launch rocket. Rocket being a rocket model not a meagre collection of rods. While knex by itself might not be light enough to fly.... perhaps you could run some string through the middle to make it appear to glide.... Mum's washing line might be of great help.Prizes:There will be patches for prizes. Gmjhowe will be uploading them soon.

Gaming without the disk?

I know there are instructions all over the internet on how to do this but as far as i can tell the instructions are without the original disk, if i have the original disk is there a way to download all the information to the computer so that i can launch the game from a folder? a way that doesn't make punkbuster (EA games) kick me if i play online. essentially i want a digital disk so i can use the original as a backup and i won't have to worry about my family removing my disks and destroying them (they tend to leave disks anywhere they can put them down). As a random note im always worried that when transfering my disk from the case to the drive that something will happen as in the past i have been pushed and i dropped the disk, it landed on an uneven surface and someone stepped on in breaking it.

K'NEX Machine Gun (Does Not Use "Barrel Per Bullet" Design)

How it should (How I want it to) work. Background: Uses a rack and pinion system to draw back a firing pin to launch projectiles(firing pin not shown).1. Crank (black rod) will be turned, spinning the pinion, which in turn draws back the rack. First picture shows the racks in default position. They are locked in place against the pinions by the yellow connectors stopping the orange connectors (center).2. Rubber bands attached to the racks pull them inward, but is stopped by the yellow connectors. Once it reaches the end, the rubber bands pulling the racks will pull them inward suddenly. This will free the racks from the pinions, so turning the crank will not pull back the mechanism any more. 3. Once the racks impacts the front, the force of the impact pushes it against the angled yellow structure, thus resetting the racks into default again.Basically someone build this so it works well, por favor.

Sky Lanterns, Japanese Lanterns?

This is a request for an instructable on how to build inexpensive, easy to pack, easy to use, high flying sky lanterns. I have a now 15 year old niece who has been sick most of her life and will be at the Mayo early this summer for an opperation that will either kill or cure her. She's going to be in rough shape for a couple days before and a couple weeks after the opperation. She loves the art of fireworks but I can't provide that for her in Rochester. I'd like to have a few evening lantern launches for her to lift her spirits and give her something to look forward to in the midst of her serious tribulations. I've bought two boxes from Skylighter. They are a great company. I've always had positive experiences in my business with them. Unfortunately they have been out of the white Sky Lanterns, and their Lanterns are a bit smaller than I would like. I've seen tube shaped lanterns on youtube but I've not seen directions on how to make them. I'd like to make biodegradable/safe lanterns. Please Help Glad to be a new member here.

Great Adventures

Does anyone remember the old Great Adventures sets? I collected almost all of them for my kids when they were younger. We had the castle complete with all of the Knights, the King, the invading King, the bad knights, the wizard, the small dragon, the large dragon, the "Special" knights, the boulder launching cannon etc. We also invested in the western town set. We had the sheriff, the deputy, the jailer, assorted bandits, the bucking bull, etc. Another set was the pirate ship. We collected the large ship, the small ship, all of the captains, sea serpent, pirate island, shark raft, the iron whale, and over two-dozen pirates! We had a ball playing with these things. Me and the boys spending good quality time together. Then we had a small problem. i was transferred for work and the boys thought they had to leave everything behind (including the great adventures sets they loved!) They never told us though. We thought that they were just having issues with the move in general. We followed some tips from a buyers agent website (mainly the one entitle Communication) and figured out that they were worried about leaving behind everything. We quickly fixed the misunderstanding and resumed a peaceful move.

Knex "K*bot" competitions (kbotworld.com)

Http://www.kbotworld.com/ I was bored and decided to google "Knex". What I found was very interesting. Apparently there are competitions for Knex robots that do battle with each other. As I read this I thought about how us Knex gunners at Instructables could easily dominate these competitions; because we are the kings of Knex warfare. We could have a collaboration group based around K*bots, where we will post ideas and eventually have designs for the ultimate robot. Then when the competitions come around we could find somebody who lives closest to the competition to build the robot and enter on behalf of our collaboration. But there's a catch: There are rules, an one rule states that projectile weapons are banned. But I believe there are ways around this, as the exact ruling on this goes:"Projectile weapon systems which can launch a K'NEX part clear off the K*bot are banned due to safety reasons. Any other weapons systems which the organizers deem too dangerous will also not be permitted." This could easily be avoided by fixing the projectiles to the robot. For example: My cannon could use an extremely long bullet that has rods in the back of it, preventing it from ever leaving the robot while still delivering a deadly impact. But don't forget that weapons NOT based on guns will also be essential. So what do the rest of you think?

Seriously. You can enter both contests, but absolutely no guns allowed in the 'K'nex Projects' challenge. Challenge yourself to meet either of these 2 contest criteria. The projects that are going to win the top prizes are ones that are original, creative and have amazing pictures. Since making awesome K'nex projects takes time each of these Weekly Play Challenge will be 2 weeks, this forum posting is to give you guys a heads-up. Both contests start next week. I want the K'nex crew to smash the previous Weekly Challenges, break 100+ projects and be the first to win top prize for these quick-fire challenges. Working SRv3 and Directional Mine Prototype

I haven't had the time to work on the SRv3 in a while so here is what I am thinking of doing. Let me know what you think. I want to release an ible on what I have built up to this point. Which by the way is a working shooting gun that shoots exactly how I want it to I just need the body, front, grip, stock, and bi pod to be designed and built. If you build what I present your SRv3 will shoot 500ft. What do you think? I want to make this gun a collaboration of design ideas so we can all build the gun as a community. Let me know if this sounds fun to you all. If so I'll post pics this weekend! 08/11/2013 Pics of both my working SRv3 and Directional Mine Prototype coming soon! Just a few fun stats of the two. The SRv3 has been recorded to shoot over 500ft and is extremely accurate. The Directional Mine launches 25+ K'nex green rods over 50ft in a nice spread pattern that can be activated by both trip wire and pull cord. Both are shooting great and are extremely fun to use! I hope to get a video and ible/forum up soon showing how to build both and how they preform! 08/14/2013 Go check out the Directional Mine Prototype on my ible NOW!

Mass rapes and machete murders in 2008

Kenyan tribal warfare:I'm not sure if this is a topic, that everyone would like to be shoved in their face like this.. So please let it die if your don't want to hear about it..but with that said...WHAT THE &%#!!??!!!!?!!!!!!!I would generally refer to myself as a non-beliver in christianity. But for the first time in my life, I sought help from God for these poor people caught in the middle of this.Within 15 minutes of the election results being released the unrest had already begun...I'm not sure how many of you have been following this, but whats going on is VERY DISTURBING. I have just viewed several people being chased and murdered buy groups of tribal members.... Women are being taken and gang raped... This is not one or two people being killed and raped here it's many more.If something like this is not worth stepping in and controlling, then what is??Australia has participated in civil unrest issues before with success and has shown so in East Timor..Would it not be a good idea to stop this now, before more deaths and raping's occur?...And yes I am more than aware, of the logistics of launching a multinational strategical force into a under developed country such as Kenya. Yet I also believe something needs to be done...What do you all think of the situation??I'm feeling physically ill at the moment, I don't know if i'm going to be able to sleep tonight.... I just keep seeing the guy running and getting cut till he falls and they get him.... Truley sickening....

RBGs- True Semi-Auto or Not?

Alright so I'm having a "civilized discussion" with Mykhailo/whoever you call him now and he's arguing, just like plenty of others, that RBGs are not true semi auto because of the reasons soon to be listed. Comparing RBGs to real firearms (which I understand are not exactly alike in plenty of ways) I find that they're more like a true semi automatic than what you guys would call true semi autos. Just listen to my argument and see if you can at least understand what I'm saying. The majority of your arguments for why an RBG is not a true semi auto is that you have to prepare a band for every shot. Some of you compare this to cocking a weapon more than once for every shot. I find this a bad comparison. In real fire arms, the firing mechanism isn't what launches the bullet. It triggers the powder which then in turn shoots the bullet. An RBG is similar to this. Each rubber band acts as the "powder" for the bullets. The RBG firing mechanism simply sets them off. You also have to prepare real cartridges too. Does it matter if it's you or not who makes them? You still have to mix up and add the powder all the same as you must add RBs to your weapon. This brought up the argument that it's still not a true semi auto because the bullet isn't self-contained in an RBG. OK I have two things to say to this. First, now bullets decide the firing mode of a weapon? Secondly, what about ooda's RBG ammo. That's self contained, isn't it? The bullet is attached directly to the RBG. What do you guys think?

Improvements/Questions on Launcher Design?

Using the picture as a base. What do you think about this design for a smoke/whatever else launcher. The barrel will be made of pvp and have a hinge connecting the two pieces. On the non-detachable side will be a hook, and the detachable side will have a "hook grabber". The hook is some sort of bendable material that will lock around the grabber. The gun part of the pvc will have a slit cut into, like the one in the picture. A spring will be glued down in the butt end, and the opposite end of the spring will have some small object attached to it. This object will also have a very small hook coming off of it. To load the gun you will detach the hook and push in the smoke grenade as far as possible. When you can no longer, you you attach a wire that is coming off of the little black box detailed in the picture to a mechanism that is attached to the trigger. You then close the front part to allow for better travel. When the trigger is pulled, it will detach from the blackbox on the spring, causing the spring to release all of its tension. The smoke grenade will, obviously, be propelled through. So, my questions. Would this seem like it would work viably? How much distance would you say it could get? The smoke grenades would weigh around 11oz . Is there any major flaws? I believe that some sort of spring guide will be needed. Are these possible to construct yourself? I haven't done any projects with springs before, most of my projectiles have been launched via combustion, so this is new for me. Should there be an additions? Also, the way in which the smoke grenade is going to ignite is a striker on the side of it, along with the inner edges of the end of the barrel having a striker on it. When they scrape up at the speed they will be at, they would ignite, and a fuse would catch the flame and ignite the smoke grenade. I have done this on other smaller designs. It doesn't have near a 100% success rate, but it still works the majority of the time. Any suggestions for changing this?

What i've been up to: the bolt action, bullpup, tube mag, pump action, dual shot, sling repeater. Got your attention yet?

Ok, for those of you who had seen my shotgun design, you could probably tell it was over before it had even started.  I had tried 5 different layouts and I couldn't get past the frontmost barrel without running into problems.  I think it was a cool design, but it was just too much for K'nex. Most of my best get designs just pop into my head at the most random times.  Is it just me, or does this happen to other people too?  Anyways I was trying to make it until the bell in pre-cal (my teacher is a crazy cat woman who enjoys talking about her imaginary husband) and I just started drawing this design.  Not only did it kill 10 minutes but it may just be the best thing I've come up with in terms of K'nex. The magazine looking thing in front of the handle is actually the driving mechanism in this gun.  Shots are housed in the stock pressing up against the pusher.  When the pump is pulled, the pusher moves down, allowing two bullets (one shot) into the chamber.  When the pump is released, the pusher pushes the bullets up against an upper section, where they wait for the trigger so be pulled, releasing the ratchet and the rubber band, launching the two bullets with a decent (I hope) spread.   Even though it doesn't shoot yet it is fun to just load the ammo (thats just how cool this gun it).  It is probably going to be a little different than what is shown in the video by the time I post it, but right now I'm just going with what I have.  I hope you like it and please let me know of any improvements you can come up with. -Kinetic

Instructables Internship - Day 4

Alo Again,Well, this morning I didn't have the opportunity to burn my PB sandwich, not only because it was a PB&J; sandwich, but because the oven was filled with semi-burnt roasted tomatoes/garlic.Anyhow, Today I did some more outreach for the new Launch It! Contest and... drumroll please.... Billy and I shipped all of the remaining Laser Cutter Contest Winners' prizes! Woo Hoo! Other than that, the morning was pretty chill. I'm getting used to the much more relaxed setting here at Instructables. At all of my other internships I've had, everything was always so fast-paced, tense, and ridiculously demanding. At Instructables, everyone's just Chill. Everyone enjoys what they're doing. It's awesome. Also, I downloaded the Instructables MySQL dumpfile from Rachel, and I'm in the process of getting it back into MySQL. Eventually, I'm going to try and make some cool new statistic features for you guys!Billy and I tested out some LEDs and my ultra-thin/flexible solar panels, which are hella awesome. The specs say that they get 3V @ 22 mA max in the sunlight, but yesterday, I got that in the shade. In the sunlight?: 4.19V!After that, Jason, Billy, Noah and I checked out the Water Jet in Instructables' machine shop. Billy had to cut some stuff for a project of his, but watching the machine "do its thing" was really cool. There's so much awesome stuff here, I still can't believe it.Noah, Jason, and I then picked out some stuff that was going to get thrown out to use in Proj. X, and we ordered the Surgical Tubing, too! Then, Jason, Mike (Works for Potenco), and I went to the beach to check out the kite boarders, and fly the trainer kite. (Eventually, we'll get to kite board, too!)Alright, I think that I'm actually going to go get started on Proj. X now...I've included some pictures that I've taken throughout the day.Cheers,-MuffinatorP.S. I came up with an awesome badge idea, and I'll draw it up today on the computer. I'll post it by tonight, so make sure you tell me if you like it or not!

Instructables Internship - Day 2

Hello Again!Well, it's been Day 2 for me, here at Instructables, and truthfully; I'm having a blast! So, what'd I do today? Well, I cut A TON of stickers out for the launch of the new Instructables Store. I did some more "outreach" work (mainly having to do with the science fair contest), and I tried to find places where I could get some surgical tubing for the top-secret project ;).I also started working on posting 2 new instructables that I have already built, they should be up in a reasonable amount of time, hopefully.I found out another thing about Instructables, today. Everyone is excited about everyone else's work. You see, Billy (Tetranitrate) has this new project that he's working on, which is actually going to be super-super-awesome, and everyone's just so interested in his progress, it's pretty amazing. Even with site updates and layouts and stuff, everyone is so interested in everything, it's just awesome. I've been at other internships where the employees don't even get along, but here, they collaborate in getting stuff done. Oh boy, I love it here just a bit too much.OH, That's right! I worked on some images for the new, yes, I said new, homepage layout/design! I'm actually really excited about it, mostly because I'm bored of looking at all of the same images EVERY SINGLE TIME I come to the site, and also because I get to pick some of what's going to be used on the new homepage. You know, the best part of interning here is being able to give back to Instructables, and the DIY Community as a whole. However, being able to do what you want after lunch is pretty sweet, too. Tomorrow, I think Noah (NoahW) and Jason (The other intern) and I are going to pick up our materials, pick up some muffin mix for salad club and other assorted foodstuffs, and get to work on our top-secret project.Btw, I started thinking up a design for Instructables badges, and depending on when I learn how to use the laser cutter, I'll make 'em ASAP!Cheers,-Muffinatorp.s.: Sigh, I burned my Peanut Butter Sandwich this morning.... The picture looks nice, though...

Possible improved t-shirt cannon design. Will it work? Answered

I had an idea for a t-shirt cannon design using combustion instead of compressed air but desided against it when i found that it would most likely burn the shirt. I have since then changed the designs to one where I think I solved the problem but I would like some feedback before I start buying materials. The basic change in design is that is uses this piece: http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1v/R-100348177/h_d2/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId;=10051&catalogId;=10053 [Starting at the top valve and going clockwise, name the openings 1, 2, and 3.] The blast would be through 2. The shirt would come out 1. That way (hopefully), the majority of the heat would go through a shortish piece connected to 3 while the compressed air goes everywhere including out 1 launching the shirt. Another heat helping idea was using a sort of heat sink by putting a piece of free floating (unattached to walls of pipe) metal pipe inside the PVC to absorb some of the heat. Don't know how effective that would be, though. Finally there's always using a fire retardant material as a buffer between the shirt and the gas attached to a tether so it won't fly away. Speaking of which, is the reason the shirt gets burned because of actual fire or just getting so hot it spontaneously combusts? Also some general improvements assuming the previous ones work: 1) To avoid the problems of using a Taser (like cost and safety), I was going to use kipkay's idea from another video of using the igniter from a BBQ lighter 2) To limit power (assuming a short burst of fuel was still too much), I was going to put a ball valve on 3 that I could open a bit to let some air pass out that way 3) For all spud guns in general, Instead of having a screw on piece to let fuel in which takes more time to use, I thought of using another ball valve to just open and spray the fuel in. Please give me any feedback, comments, or questions you have, including those of the "You're incredibly stupid. This will not work at all/kill everyone" variety. Be nice. I realize I asked a lot of questions. I'm excited.
