Hi all, I need to figure out how to make a giant inside of a computer for a school project for my kids class. I can get a 2"x4" frame for the entire space, but need ideas of how to decorate the inside of this giant box. Any brilliant ideas on how to do this thing on a shoe-string budget? Thank you all for your brilliant ideas. I am a worker, not creative!

I have a small prop that is a bat that hangs from fishing line and flies in a circle. The wings got damaged, so I took it apart to look at the little motor. The bottom half of the bat body (see photos) has the battery case with the wires and motor on the other side, it also has led lights. The motor works fine when I turn it on and the lights work too. Can I use this for anything? Any ideas would be great. The motor is small and I dont know what kind it is, but the gears turn very fast. I thought it would be too small for anything, but the bat is actually quite heavy, so I should be able to use it for something Thx

I've done some digging, and I keep getting mixed answers on this. I have a pepakura helmet I have been working on, and recently, I had the back end of it warp on me. I applied rondo (which is roughly 70% figerglass and 30% bondo) It warped while I had it sitting in my car on a rather hot day, so my hopes for fixing it are high. However, I have already taken a heat gun to it (which did make it very flexible) to reshape it. However, it always returns back to it's original misshaped form. Am I just no applying enough heat to it? Or have I basically accidentally created a memory material? Thanks in advance!

Anyways please join me in the discussion for the latest reference and ideas!! let me start with som photoshop design i did!!

Hi all, I'm building a prop dynamite stick that will "explode" onstage. It will be standing upright on a crate (so I can hide mechanisms in the crate) and will suddenly explode. I have a pyrotech license and can use gerbs to make a small fiery explosion but I'd like to SAFELY make the stick of dynamite explode into several pieces (foam???) without any risk of hurting anyone in the audience (this is because an actor will find and collect the pieces of dynamite later in the play). I'm seeking thoughts on how you guys might approach a build like this. Cheers! Damian

I've been working on a pair of working Daft Punk helmets for some time now. I am working on the electronics for it now, and I'm designing a systems to let me wear the helmets drivers and batteries without having to have a backpack that would cover up the hard work I did on a jacket (shameless plug is shameless). Anyway, I've settled on a custom vest with pockets to store all the needed bits and bobs. However, if I wear just the vest (from the plans I have so far) I get the feeling someone might think it's some sort of bomb. While I have no intention of removing my jacket (as to try and keep the inner working under wraps) I am concerned that if I do remove the jackets, someone might get startled at a convention. As I have never personally been to a convention, and I plan to start going on them much more, I was curious if anyone has dealings with stuff of this nature. And, if they do, if there is anything I can do to ensure nothing as bad as someone yelling "bomb" at me (maybe get it checked as a weapon?). Either way, this is something I need to consider before I actually start making the control vest, so if I need to modify the design, I can. Also: I do know that most conventions have certain guidelines to them. Again, I have yet to go to any, and plan to go to them more often. Due to this, I want to know what the most strict set of rules would be, and follow those. Although, the strictest I have seen is peace-bonding weapons, nothing regarding clothing. Thanks in advance!

There's a lot of costuming content on this site, and from what I can tell there are only two channels that currently contain these instructables; halloween and props. Some of the costumes aren't really "props", and "halloween" (1.) includes all kinds of non-costume related things and (2.) doesn't really cover costumes for cosplaying or larping or whatever other reason you might have for dressing up. I love costuming and I want to suggest a channel specifically for costumes, costume accessories, and the like. That way if anyone wants to look at costume ideas they don't have to sift through hundreds of ways to decorate your house for halloween. ::EDIT:: It appears a channel has been added for costuming since I asked this question. Thanks Instructables!

Live Action Game will include Vampires, werewolves, Fae, and mages. Sounds incredibly geeky I know and maybe it is, but it is also a blast! This will be for a semi-large live action game of 100 - 200+ people and we're trying to come up with some cool set/prop designs for general room/stage atmosphere but have a small budget, limited tools when it comes to saws or power tools (though we have more than 6 months before the day they are needed so we have time and plenty of hands to help). We do have several great artists working with us and a lot of creative crafty people but are only beginning to brainstorm possible ideas so I figured I'd ask for some suggestions from some of the web's cleverest DIYers. This is much like setting a stage for a theatre performance. Our convention space is pretty large and we have multiple large (think ballroom sized) rooms available to put our set in. Other requirements for pieces: Fairly light so we can move the items pretty easy (the game will be taking place in a convention space that we do not own). Ideally pieces could be broken down some for easy transportation and storage Would be great if some of the pieces had some versatility so we could use them in multiple venues (ie main structure, that can have things that can be switched out for other things is awesome for some of the pieces, like something covered with a canvas painted scene that can be switched out for a different canvas scene or similar idea) Nothing that is permanet or requires drilling into a wall/floor etc as the space is not ours and is rented Nothing that is on fire or requires fire. Nothing too complex for the average person to put together and take down Safety is a concern I would be interested in hearing any ideas or being pointed to websites for inspiration or instructions on creating these kinds of stage/prop pieces. Thanks in advance for any ideas!

I recently started making a helmet doing the pepakura and fiberglass process. I have the helmet made, and three coats of resin coated on the inside. But now, I need to put the cloth on the outside. SO question at hand: how do you get fiberglass cloth into tight edges? Here's a picture of the helmet to see what I have to deal with. The ear bits are where I'm having the concern at.

Closing in on midnight on October 30th, and I found myself in a familiar situation . . .Making last-minute Halloween costumes and props for my kids! Here's a photo of my late-night kitchen table, where I was working on a homemade hover board prop from the "Back to the Future" movies. I paused for a moment to survey the scene and snap a photo, and couldn't help taking note of the silliness of the whole thing. It's midnight. I'm tired. My kids are asleep. And I'm up making this thing. WHY?Why do we do this to ourselves?! - - - - - -I know why I do it, but tell me why you do!Were you up late making stuff for yourself or for your kids? I'm making Chell's companion cube for part of a costume, and I want it to look scorched like it did at the end of the game. How can I achieve this effect? The cube is going to be constructed of simple materials like cardboard and foam. I've considered just going at it with black spray paint, but I'm not sure it'll be convincing. Help?

I am putting together a display and I need realistic-looking food props (slightly decayed). Ideally I'd like to use real food and coat it in something that will preserve it from further decay - similar to using formaldehyde on human or animal remains. Is this even possible with foods such as a banana peel? If so, what would be best? Thanks

Hi gang, I'm working on a show and I need to make a live audience believe that their 'telepathic psychic powers' have made a watermelon explode. I can build a booth with a lexan/plexiglass window so that watermelon doesn't spray the audience, this will also allow me to hide special fx rigs in it. I've done a somewhat similar rig before where I made the watermelon fall unnoticed through a trap door while a nozzle simultaneously sprayed watermelon guts against the plexi (so it looked like it exploded but didn't really). This time I'd really like to make it blow up. I have a pyrotech license and have access to some basic explosives, but I think I would prefer to explore compressed air-based explosions. Anyway, any ideas would be appreciated. Please find a rough sketch attached. Many thanks! DAZU

I'm planning on making a prop of Lon Lon Milk, from the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. The one problem I'm having is what I should use as a substitute for the milk? I want to use something that has the appearance of milk, but won't go bad/spoil. I'm also hoping to find something that is thick, and won't move around as much. My first thought is to use wax of some sort, but I don't know how well that would turn out. Does anybody else have any suggestions?

I've seen a lot of headphones where the band is at the back of the head, but they're all pretty ugly. I really wanted to make a pair of my own that looks good without breaking bank. I can't figure out what materials I should use, or how to get them to stay up. They can be props or a working pair (I have several headphones that are just for looks)! Thanks so much in advance!

I have been searching instructables but i cant find any that relate to manga or anime other then "how to draw" instructables. I am looking for costume and weapon ideas as well as general conversations/forums involving anime/manga such as Bleach, Fullmetal Alchemist, Pokemon and Dragon Ball. I know there are a couple on Naruto, but I have not yet seen the anime or read the manga so i dont really care about that. Please post a link or just an idea for costumes, props or weapon instructables. Thanks and I hope that if you havnt read manga or watched anime before, you should get into it.

I'm wanting to build these microphone props for a play , but this Instructable is really vague, only providing a loose list of components and no sizes. The one thing I can't figure out for myself, however, is what the outer circle is made of. I figured those curved bits were PVC, but a search through Lowes didn't turn up anything that looked like that. What are those things?

I'm trying to build a large World War II bomb prop that needs to vibrate, for a short film I'm working on. The building the bomb part I have figured out, but as far as the vibrating I'm trying to power a ceiling fan from some form of standard 'off-the-shelf' battery and have no idea how to start and if this is possible. Anyone have any ideas about how to do this?

I have a friend who is a big fan of Matt Wagner's Grendel comics, and I thought it would be fun to make him a prop version of Grendel's signature "fork" weapon. I can handle the construction of the staff and the blades, but I'd like to get some thoughts about the special effect - a Jacob's Ladder-style electrical arc between the blades. Obviously, I'll need to modify the pictured design a bit so that the blades are electrically isolated from each other - no "tuning fork" configuration. My first thought was to just get a commercial "stun gun" and attach one contact to each blade, but I'm hoping the 'ibles community can help me come up with a better idea. Desired Specs: Hollow, black anodized metal staff. 6' length, 7/8" ID. Separates in the middle via a screw-threaded coupler. Has a threaded socket in one end and a black plastic plug in the other end. (It's an extra upright from a utility shelf unit) Blades - not purchased yet, most likely 440 stainless tanto blades (dulled) 7" to 10" plus a 3" - 4" tang. Unit must be self-contained - no power cord visible i.e. to an external battery pack or wall wart. A removable recharging cable would be OK. Arcing must be triggerable via a switch on the staff. I don't need to actually shock anyone, I just want a flashy visual effect. Simulated arcing would be perfectly fine as long as it looks good. Needs to be sturdy and fairly impact-resistant. It won't really be used as a weapon, but it will undoubtedly get played with a lot. Anybody have any suggestions?

Hello everyone, I'm not very active here and I think this is my first post on the forums... I just wanted to say how I really like the fact that there are No on Prop 8 banner ads on Instructables. :) But since we're on this topic now: How do you feel about Proposition 8? (If you don't know what Prop 8 is, it's the "Marriage Protection Act", it would amend the California constitution to say that only marriage between a man and a woman is valid and would make same-sex marriages unconstitutional.)

I spend a lot of time making LARP/Prop weapons and I have a particular sword that has a very weak guard (That's this https://www.instructables.com/id/Ninjato-30-Alt-Z/). I end up fixing it after every rehearsal, because the foam rips (See the pictures and you'll know exactly how that happens). I'm looking for some sort of spray or paint-on substance/concoction that I can use to make this guard stronger. I use foam because it's a bendy substance, so something that will harden and then crack if it is bent is not an option. I want to make the foam tougher, but not stiff or brittle. Anyone have any ideas?
