Well here it is a shiny new forum were you can talk about knex wars. Me and my friends generally have one each month so you can expect a recap of each one. Also I would love to hear what you guys get up to.

I remember reading about Nerf guns once, and there was a site called "Nerf Haven". It was a pretty popular site and they would have "Nerf wars" a couple times a year. In these wars they would get together someplace and just play with their Nerf guns. So I was thinking "Why not do this with Knex?".So who thinks this could be a possibility for the future? People could go to show off their creations, compete in contests, but the main reason to go would be to have a Knex war. It would also be a great way to answer some questions like:Are MGs worth the long reload? Are powerful single shots or guns with magazines better?Do tiny guns have a place in battle?Tell we what you guys think, maybe this could be the future of Knex guns =P

Hey guys! Sharir1701 here and, as most of you guys that knew me back when I was still around probably know, I've lost most of my interest in Knex. I do, however still come on the site ever so often to browse, comment and so on. I've noticed during my past couple of visits that there seems to be a "war", so to speak, raging on between some members of the community, regarding the effect of bulldozing a gun with rubber bands, as well as "how good" is the NAR. In this forum I am assuming you all have basic knowledge in Knex gun technology, are familiar with the stated guns and have a little bit of background in mechanical engineering. Moving on. You might know my opinion about the subject already, but I would like to state it once more as well as explain it better, so perhaps some people that disagree with me could understand my point of view. BUT, before I do that, I can't help but feel guilty for tossing the long burning logs into a small fire. About a month or two ago, in one of my visits, I posted a comment on one of Red's topics (or 'ibles, strike me dead for my memory) about my quite specific opinion about each and every one of the three guns in question in the said topic, the ZKAR, the NAR and the TR8. I said a few things about rubber bands and brute force vs. complexion and efficiency, and I may have started something unintentionally. That argument has been around since, if I recall correctly, 2009, but it hasn't been brought up again in a while. I feel like I made that happen and then I enraged a few more people by saying that "efficiency and good design beats brute force any day" (or something like that...). I'm not taking credit for starting this thing again, but rather I'm apologizing for sparking up an old and possibly pointless argument. Nonetheless, I will now explain my opinion on the subject and hopefully nobody gets mad at me for doing so, but if you have a valid counter argument, please state it below in an understandable and polite way. Thank you. If so, then, what is this whole thing even about? The "KI Crew", as I like to call them, have been very proud of their NAR and TR-n series guns for a few years now. The TR series I'll admit is very good, but I don't accept the "add as many rubber bands as possible" argument. Now, the NAR, personally, I dislike the gun. I have had nothing but bad range tests with it in the 3 times throughout the past 4 years that I've built it, and I've heard similar results from several people and some close friends. I highly doubt I was doing something wrong all THREE times, so don't bother to bring that up, please. The NAR is a gun designed for nothing else but being capable of withstanding great amounts of force and shooting a single round "the strongest a pin gun can shoot". How? Very simple - make a massively dense and very shock-proof body and then just add as many rubber bands as you can before your hands start bleeding. Now, let me explain, I'm saying 2 points here. First, the NAR is nothing special, just a strong structure with a simple connector barrel and a reinforced pin. We've seen it before, people. The claim that it's a good gun simply because you can put on as many bands as you want, pretty much, is, in my eyes, invalid. So I can make a bomb and just put as much explosives on it as I can afford, surely it'll be better than an atomic bomb... WRONG. It won't. Theoretically, even if it makes a bigger bang, it takes so much effort and it is so non-elegant that it loses it's point within itself. (Do not take this metaphor out of hand! You know what I mean). Second, and more importantly, I'm claiming that even if my first claim is wrong, if you look at the technical side of things you'll see that the very premise that adding more and more rubber bands to a gun will make it much stronger, is wrong in it's origins. I'm sure we all know this, but let me remind us all the physics of how a basic pin gun works. When the potential energy stored in the strained rubber bands, and rested on the cocked pin, is released, it accelerates the pin. The pin then proceeds to gain speed and it reaches three main milestones: The initial strike of the bullet (The pin is already accelerated and is just touching the bullet, but the bullet is still). The point of equality, as I've dubbed it before (Just a few tiny fractions of a second after the initial strike, at this point the pin is ever so slightly slower than it was in the initial strike, but the bullet is now travelling at an equal speed as the pin, with a tiny gap between the two, meaning they aren't actually touching at this point) And finally, "the crash" (the bullet has left the barrel, the pin is at it's highest speed and is the most energetic as it pointlessly crashes into the back of the barrel losing and wasting all of it's remaining energy). In a world where you could use 100% of the acceleration of the pin and transfer it all into the bullet, adding more bands would indeed make a much stronger gun. BUT, that is impossible, in fact, it's no where near that. To put it all into a short sentence, the bullet accelerates and fires with a fraction of the energy released during the shot and to a certain limit, it is almost exactly the same amount of energy after a certain point. So, let's talk Maths. There is a direct correlation between the number of rubber bands on a gun and the amount of acceleration (and force) in the pin when fired. The pin's acceleration as a function of the number of rubber bands on the gun is in the order of magnitude of y=x. That's true, and that is where the misguided claim in question comes from. However, if we take a look at the graph of a bullet's acceleration as a function of the number of rubber bands on the gun, we can conclude, according to the above explanation, that the function is in the order of magnitude of y=sqrt(x). That means that up to a certain pivot, which I claim is, on average, around the 2-3 rubber band mark, adding more rubber bands does in fact produce a drastically stronger shot, but past that point, adding more rubber bands adds more brute force, yes, but it makes the shot stronger only just slightly, and by an increasingly smaller amount the more bands you put on it. BUT, and this is the big BUUT, the graph of the force required to cock the gun as a function of the number of bands on the gun is, again, in an order of magnitude of y=x. In conclusion, up to a certain, quite low point, adding more rubber bands will give you a drastically stronger shot without stressing the gun too much and without making the pull incredibly hard. However, past that point, adding more rubber bands adds an insignificant amount of power to the gun while introducing a whole lot more difficulty in operating it, resulting in an overall, worse gun. That is why I claim that a gun built around the sole concept of being capable to handle a lot of rubber bands is a nice concept, but is much worse than a gun built around efficiency (meaning you try to invest as much of the potential energy of the pin into the bullet by making a more efficient layout and a smarter usage of the forces in play). If you got this far, thank you for reading my article, and I hope this will put an end to this silly argument, but knowing how people's feelings work and how male ego and testosterone works, I bet it's far from it. Happy Knexing everybody ;)

In here we tell stories about past knex wars. For instance: What happened? How many people where there? Who won? (if any) What did you do? What did the other team do? Where did you do it? How was it all planned? Etc... And everything like that. So I hope that there are going to be some good stories.

This is a new knex war idea it is called IT IS CALLED THE CANNON KNEX WAR SETUP: THERE IS A KNEX CANNON IN THE MIDDLE OF YOUR PLAYING FEILD THE CANNON MUST SHOOT OVER 60 FT FOR IT TO BE USED THE PLAYERS CAN ONLY HAVE KNEX ASSAULT RIFLES EXCEPT FOR 2 PEOPLE WHO CAN HAVE A SHOTGUN AND A PISTOL. THERE IS A 12IN BY12IN CARDBOARDBOX 4FT OFF THE GROUND ON BOTH SIDES YOUR SIDE AND YOUR OPPONENTS SIDE. IMPORTANT: ONE PERSON MAY HAVE A KNEX SNIPER OF HIS/HER CHOICE THE GOAL: IS TOO HIT THE TARGET WITH THE KNEX CANNON. IMPORTANT:ONLY ONE PERSON MAY OPPERATE THE CANNON AT A TIME IF YOU ARE HIT WHEN OPPERATING THE CANNON YOU MUST GIVE THE CANNON THE PLAYER WHO HIT AND YOU MUST RETURN TO YOUR SIDE AND HAVE TO WAIT FOR 5 SECENDS BEFORE RETURNING TO THE GAME. IMPORTANT: THE TARGET CAN ONLY BE HIT BY THE CANNON NO OTHER WEAPONS CAN HIT IT I WANT YOU OPPINION ON IF THIS IS A GOOD IDEA OR IF IT ISNT. BOTH NICE AND MEAN CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM IS WELCOME

UPDATE, I now have everyone needed to start the 'ible, for those who can't find it go to: you->instrucables->collaborations. UPDATE: I have decided to start this abit early as I would like to have this out for christmas, failing that, new years. to all those participating, please remain impartial. Hey guys! I have had this idea for awhile now, what I want to do is a collaboration ible for a realistic knex war. I know jammy already did one, but I find his rules a bit unrealistic. What I want from you guys is anything related to a knex war, things like: -choosing weapons -rules (must be usable, like the KI ones) -different gametypes or even little topics like -Tr vs Rectangle Let me know if you are Interested. People so far Killer~SafeCracker - rules Dj Radio - Types of guns (only if he is impartial) logic boy (Me)- General tactics and the intro Silent Assasin21 - types of guns for different environments TheDunkis - sidearms Hiyadudez - assault weapons shadowninja31 - snipers and sniping jollex - just stuff knex gun builder - game types The Jamalam - game specific tatics If you want to ask me anything, feel free.

Who all went out and bought Halo Wars expecting it to be the greatest RTS ever? I kinda did, and when I first played it, it wasn't all I expected. I love the Halo series, but Halo Wars really let me down. After much thought, I tried to think of what it would be like to have the Flood in it. I mean, the Flood is basically the reason for Halo. That's the reason the Forerunners built the halo rings, to help destroy the flood( Technically their food, but you get the idea.). It would be so much more awesome to be able to play as an infection, killing enemies, and making them your own. Then Halo Wars would be rated M, ( Just like all the other games!!!), Making it fit better in the series. If you agree, or disagree, please post your comments and opinions, but any inappropriate or mean comments will be deleted.

Well, The Dunkis asked for a perfect war gun, so i made one. This thing is packed with innovation (not really), it's got a new way to hold shells, a different way to put a turret, and a thingy for the ratchet that i put on my ASCB. It is complete with: A slingshot a turret a pump action gun A trigger that activates the slingshot and the turret a separate trigger for the bottom A turret that doesn't use the tube sort of whatever The only feature this doesn't have is a mag for the pump action part Yes, the on the last picture you can actually see the face that has brought the world happiness :)

I believe it is a commonly known fact (<--I assume) that most organisms capable of doing so exert some form of cry when exerting force. What cry do you use most often? When lifting? When celebrating? When charging into battle? When slaying that enemy in a video game?

Follow the money. War profiteers have no morality , This weekend take the time to listen to a vet. Just listen, let them tell what war was like and the discussing how they have been treated when they returned. The art of listening with your ears listen to their voices. Eyes what are you seeing in the faces? look real close to their eyes. What are you feeling in your heart ?

I was looking back at the old K'nex war log posts. I saw people criticisim and know I understand how I should do it. This one, is for everybody. 11/23/10 The war has been going on for some time now. It hasn't really captured the world's eye yet, but it will someday. To date, the death toll is only 3, but the injury toll is 256. Many outsiders have been recruited, and they are usually the main injuries. 1/23/11 The leaders of both armies have agreed to join forces to take over a rising power... the Lego gunners. Their army has never been a major threat, until now. They recruited 1,000s of people, from far and near. Most people say they are easy to take down, but I don't know. 2/12/11 The first few battles have been fought, and we have been winning, but something amazing happened. To be continued...

I'm gonna be doing a knex war log every week till 2010 so here it is. 9/27/09 It's terrible. The world has gone to war. Every boy 10-20 has been called to war. The battle between KI and Instructables has gone too far. Forum topics have been flooded with hate comments and spam. They took it too far. Now everybody who builds knex guns has taken over the company and stole all the knex they could find. There isn't a knexer out there who has less than 100 guns. I myself have 134. We all have our own vehicles to hide our weapons and transport. 9/28/09 Here i was, at the front line. 2 sidearms, a rifle and sniper. I couldn't believe the difference of age and size of the army of KI. Then a FIRE was shouted and plastic rained out of the sky. I myself had a BR-18 and brutally emptied it on the enemy. I hit 12 guys and knocked them out. Now knex guns aren't harmful but we molded our knex and made them metal so they could pack a punch. And we added carefully made rubber bands specificly so powerful that you could break a bone. That was the objective. The war continued till we called in the SR-V2 men. They surrenderd as soon as never. They kept on the fire. Now, with a BR-18 that could break bones, a SR-V2 was especially feared. To be continued...

As i also loved to shoot the living crap out of locust. it is also come to my attention that the next gears will mostly take place on a humogous train and it sort of looks like it mostly takes place on the train itself. not worthy of being in a collection of 360 games. agreed?

Here it is. 10/4/09 (continued) The SR-v2 men were ready to attack, but the KI army was still laying ammo like rain. I shot my sniper ( O.S.S.R ) at the army. I took out one guy. The leader of the group of IN ( KILLERK )shouted a FIRE and all 34 SR-v2 men pulled the trigger. It was amazing. The WHOLE frontline was severely damaged and the medics took them out. Our guys didn't have a big loss of people, just a couple of newcomers. Then a weird thing happened. The youtube guns came out. You can imagine how well they fared. The outside world laughed at our conflict. They don't even know how hard it was. Some guys took one in the eye and got blinded. To be continued...

Hey! i'm back with the V2! Okay, this gun fixes all the problems of V1 like: It know has a mag for the pump action part (that shoots 2 blue rods at a time!) the turret doesn't fall off any more looks cleaner it's got a scope and better sights uses quite a few less pieces (not that different more comfy trigger for all three guns are a lot more reliable So, i might be posting, depending on what you guys think, and i need a name for it! Happy seleziona day!

*=UpdatedAlright well here's an idea I had for awhile and I've posted it in a comment but I wanted to post a topic to see how others like it. Going a long with my style of naming things I'll just call it the TDWG. Please note you may change any number that you like in here. These are just my recommendations. Here's how it works. You'll have any number of teams that will each get a split amount of knex pieces. You'll be given an amount of time say a half hour or so to build up-1. Defenses2. Weapons3. Any other extra things such as traps or ammo holders stuff like that*You'll have to use an honor system (until someone come's up with "Splody Armor") Basically you can set up an amount of health like 10, 25, or whatever and then you assign each type of bullet a damage amount. For example you could say-Green Rod=1Dark Grey=1.5White/Dark Grey+Green Rod= 2Orange connector= 2.5Blue Rod= 3Orange Connector+White Rod (What was going to be the ammo for my repeating crossbow)/+Dark Grey= 3.5Yellow= 4/5Red= 5/7Grey= 6/10The last three rods may be changed depending on your starting health. I didn't want people just making simple guns that shot grey rods to get an instant kill with little effort but I also didn't want to discourage snipers from wasting the extra pieces just to do like 1-2 extra damage.*There are now two different types of ammo: Piercing and Blunt. Piercing are any rounds that have the tip of a rod (or any bow styled tip). They need to hit you with the tip or they only do half damage/ whatever less amount but they also OHK vital organs (Head and heart) and if we ever develop armor they would "pierce" the armor and only have the damage reduced by so much. Blunt rounds would be any connector made bullet. These are like dark greys and orange connectors. They do the same damage no matter how they hit you. They don't "pierce" through the body or armor though. Notice that connectors take up more space in a magazine (even if you add a rod for the tip to change the ammo type to piercing). Also they are pretty much the only ammo a rbg gun can fire which are all almost semi-autos with decent range. I figured this made the ammo types balanced out.~Extras~-The host can select the amount of knex that is used. You could give each team only small amounts so that they use them wisely or give everyone a lot to spam the parts as much as possible.-Fix Mode Basically if any piece is busted off from it's place you are not allowed to reconnect it and must take it out and add a new piece. This requires you to save pieces in case your gun breaks. *-/Medic Mode You can choose one team member to be a medic. They then have to stand by the person for 10 seconds for each health point and if you allow it 30 seconds to revive the person who has second chance perk (which would give them only 10-20% of their entire health so that someone doesn't purposely die to regain more health)-Originality rule. You make it so no one is allowed to use guns on the "banned" list so that we don't see a flood of killerk pistols. You could also make it where they have to build purely their own designs.-Perks (yes I play CoD Too much) Basically each player gets to select one special ability they get for the match. Stopping power would add 1 point of damage to the original damage for each bullet. Martyrdom would let you throw an explosive within meters of yourself when you die. Second Chance would let you lie on the ground shooting your side arm for 10 seconds or whatever your "bleed out" time is set at. In this time you may be revived by a medic. Juggernaut will give you an extra 20% health or so.~Strategies~Alright so here are some things to remember/ take into account/ try out/ blah blah blah/ I'll stop making things up now/ and minute now/ ok I'm done.-You must analyze how much knex the host has given you to make sure you don't accidentally run out half way through building.-Yes bigger ammo means more damage but maybe the bigger pieces are limited? They also take more pieces to make magazines for and need more power for distance.*-Take into account the different ammo types. Rods may be more accurate but you have to make sure they hit the person right to deliver the most damage. Blunt ammo takes up more room but they do the same damage no matter what and can be used in rbg to deliver heavy support fire.-Remember think assembly line. Would it be easier for everyone to make their own guns? It would probably be smarter to have like a couple people make the guns and then another part of the team build a wall or armor for defense.-What kinds of guns should you use? Small guns like pistols generally only use small ammo and thus less damage but you can build more in a small amount of time. Snipers with bigger ammo and longer distances would make awesome weapons when appropriate but take time and pieces. Making support weapons like rubber band powered semi autos offer great support power because they fire fast and have decent power. They take ages to reload and take up many rubber bands so they would be best used in bases with protection. Make sure you have a wide and smart spread of jobs for your teammates. -Setting up mines and making grenades could offer great defensive and offensive support. Throw grenades on charging enemies to make them retreat. The are usually easy to make although the best ones are also rubber band consuming and you'll have a limit to those.-If playing in large areas or better yet, dark areas, it might pay off to have silent weapons so that they don't hear you firing at them.-Set up an explosive environment with knex bombs such as IaC war bombs or DX8 (Compact version coming soon) Suplodies to shoot at to make burst of pieces fly everywhere. Set them up in the middle of the war zone or in areas with a lot of cover to make a no man's land where no one can hide.-Yes if the gun fires shot as in more than one piece of ammo at a time then each piece does the same amount of damage. So if a gun shoots 5 green rods then for each green rod that hits they receive the damage of a green rod. If all 5 hit then they receive 5 points of damage. With the spread of the shot you can dish out a lot of damage on a group of foes. They do usually have short ranges though like real shotguns.-Got any more ideas?Anyways I know there are other guides for things like this but I'll make this just for my game.~Classes~AssaultBasically the ones who get to charge the enemy. They'll fight using generally the "assault" rifles or true shotguns. MedicThe almighty healer of the team. You'll need to protect them. You have the option of giving them the ability to self heal although they cannot fight during this time. They will generally be equipped with light weapons to run around such as pistols and "sub-machine guns" Sometimes can be partnered together with the Support Class.SupportThey usually have the fast firing guns or repeaters with good distance to help suppress the enemies. They usually stay back at base or from a far distance. Sometimes they can be partnered with the Medic class.SniperThis is an obvious class... You hang back either at the base or another sniper point and snipe others. Obviously they are usually equipped with rifles with high power and large calibers. SmithKind of a lowly class. They're in charge of making more weapons and fixing them+your defenses after the building stage is over and the battle has begun. With them being the only ones who can build after the building stage they are more valuable than you think.*DemolitionShotguns and explosives! Basically a more destructive close up version of the support class. Being the pyro-masters they are they can build more explosives with spare parts like the Smith ClassI'll think up other classes later.Personally if I were to be in a battle like this I would probably pick the support class or medic. I'd probably arm myself with the Stg44 and then I'd use the TDS2 or a similar weapon just something small that I can use to defend myself while trying to reload the weapon. I'd probably make a few splody like weapons to lug out. What would you guys be and use? Also what would be your strategies? Most importantly how do you like the idea/would you ever play a game like this? I was just bored and wanted to post this.

Alright I was planning on posting this towards the end of the Grand Tournament but I thought I'd start right now because I have no homework and so I have nothing better to do =PAlright to start off this is an IRPG or Internet Role-Playing Game. It's just for fun and nothing is completely serious. While we won't fake battles or anything I figured we could start up something and possibly if I figure out a good way we could play some sort of good game. Maybe I could make up one giving each gun some stats and...blah blah blah I'll have to start a collaboration team so if you want to help...yeah.Ok so here is how it's going to work. First off I need to know everyone who wants to participate. All you're going to do is have fun as we go along with the topic. So yeah here is a list of all the people who are going to play along so that we are ready for the next steps-TheDunkis-Jollex-shadowninja31Ok well the Top 3 winners of the Grand Tournament will be Team captains. If we end up with a lot of participants then maybe even 4 or 5 teams may be established. If one of them doesn't want to be a team captain then it will be passed to the next runner-up but I would prefer that no more than one person does this. Maybe we should hold elections instead? Maybe they should be nominated because the best builder isn't always the best leader. After our Captains have been decided they will all starting with the highest winning person choose team members from the list in order. Please don't disclude anyone on the list or turn down those who do join. Believe me everyone has something to bring to the table. Once your teams are established you will then have to make a choice on what will be-Your team name-If you really wish your individual nicknames-I don't know. If you guys end up with a graphics artist then design a team flag-Establish ranks. Better the person better their rank. -Finally you'll decide your standard issue weapons. These will include: *One Side Arm (i.e. DMS, TDS) *Two compact secondary weapons (i.e. BBKWG, IaC's Assault pistol, basically any assault pistol to SMG sized weapon) *Two assault rifles (Well any mid sized repeater so like Trauts' Thompson, My AK-74, or as long as it's compact any one shot power weapon like the DD-27 if you want) *One Sniper Rifle (i.e. Mepain's Sniper, Gorkem's Sniper,...anything with sniper at the end of it maybe?) *One Support weapon (i.e. a rubber band gun. Which ever of the storms was a friggen' beast!) *One Explosive (i.e. IaC's War Bomb, Splodies) *One misc. weapons (i.e. Shot gun, Canno--Oh gees I do hope IaC ends up to be one of the captains so people are only fighting to be on the team and not fighting to be one his team after the captains are done fighting to have him on their team...)You may only choose weapons that belong to your team members so choose carefully. Maybe later if I establish some sort of forum for a full own game you might be able to make money and buy weapons from others yada yada.Ranks for now will be simple and will go as follow in order from lowest to highest powered.~Basic Troops-Private-Corporal-Sergeant~Commanding Officers~-Lieutenant-Captain (from now on this is officer rank and not the leader title)-General~Leaders~-If you really wish a Second-in-Command although this would most likely be a General-Leader-- You then get to choose your own title such as President, Emperor, etc.You then must choose a role. Uh check my war game thread to see all of them. I'll post them here later. You should then use the appropriate weapons associated with your role. This will be more important once again if I am able to come up with some sort of actual game.In the end however you team must develop and arsenal of perfect weapons. So who's up for it? Should be a fun way to pass the time. I might make a forum for the whole war to be located in. If enough people join. Then who knows it depends how much help I get on how fancy the forum turns out and if I could turn it into a permanent home or not.

I was wandering if there would be any interest from you all in a K'nex war during this summer holiday, it would probably end up being around Birmingham in England. If there is much interest then we can arrange a date and location for it.

Hey guy! Sharir1701 here and I just want to start off by saying that I'm not back into Knex warfare, but I have something to show you. About a year and a half ago, I posted this forum topic. There I explained why, in my opinion, just adding more rubber bands to a gun will not actually produce an overall better gun (past a certain, low point). I'm not getting back into that discussion, but I simply wanted to share something regarding that. Don't ask me how or why (I don't know, myself), but a few days ago I suddenly remembered that old assumption I made. Being a perfectionist, I hate leaving things unfinished or unexplained (particularly math and physics related inquiries). Back when I posted that topic, I had little to no formal Physics knowledge, and the beginnings of an understanding in mathematics. Now, I have a much broader understanding, much more knowledge, and an ability to explain and evaluate what I once couldn't. Anyway, what I'm trying to say is, back then, I didn't have the tools to prove my claims. I firmly believed in them, but I couldn't confirm them. It's nothing complicated, but, like I said, just something I'd like to share. I also want to point out that, although I personally don't enjoy spending days upon days perfecting a little plastic mechanism for firing (mostly) non-aerodynamic plastic projectiles, anymore, there still is a warm spot in my heart for the craft I once loved. More to the point - this is a small article just showing something I did in a few minutes the other day, that helps me to better understand how a Knex gun works. I hope that in writing this, more people that are still building guns, will think about more accurately calculating certain things about their guns to help improve their performance and hopefully produce more efficient guns. The final note I have is that I'm about to show you equations, all of which can be plugged with real, measurable numbers, to calculate to a high degree of accuracy, the forces at play. This means you can actually calculate the most efficient layout for a gun, and also that in designing your next, you will be able to use these equations, and many others, to find optimal solutions to your problems. So, what's all this fuss about? Well, basically, I just proved with a few, painfully easy equations that my conjecture about the forces in a gun, working on the pin, is true. I'll just get to it: First, Hooke's Law states that the force necessary to change the length of a spring or a (tense) rubber band is F=K*dX, where F is the force, dX is the distance you want to change, and K is a constant number, that each rubber band (or spring) has. You can quite easily measure both of these. For rubber bands connected parallel to each other (assuming they are the same type of rubber band, which ever is your chosen standard), this equation becomes F=K*dX*N, where N is the number of rubber bands used. dX and K are both constant in the regards of the pull of a pin on a standard Knex pin gun. Therefor, the amount of force required to cock a pin (pull it back to it's full length) is linearly correlated to the number of bands you put on your gun. Next, if we examine Newton's equation of work and energy, W=dE=F*dX, where W is the work, dE is the change in energy in your system (input from an external force, i.e. your hand), F is the force applied along a length of movement, and dX is that length. Let us define the base position of the pin (not cocked, minimum tension on the rubber bands, fully in the barrel, etc.) as having 0 energy. This then means that the work applied to the pin by cocking it is equal to all the potential energy it has. From this, plugging in the force, we get Ep=K*(dX)^2*N. Let us assume a perfect world, where we neglect the effects of friction and air resistance, and assume all the momentum of the pin is transferred into the bullet as it fires (I will briefly mention in the end, why everything we're neglecting here just strengthens my claim in reality, but let's continue for now). After being released (in other words, shot), the maximum velocity the pin reaches right before the end of it's journey can be found using the equation for kinetic energy Ek=1/2*M*(Vmax)^2, using the fact that (again, neglecting energy wasted as heat due to friction) the energy is conserved, as no external force is working on the system, which then means that Ep,start=Ek,end => K*(dX)^2*N=1/2*M*(Vmax)^2 => Vmax = sqrt(2*K*(dX)^2/M) * sqrt(N). The first sqrt term in the final equation is all one big constant (again, K is the ratio associated with the rubber band, dX is the distance the pin travels, and M is the mass of the pin), meaning we can conclude that (C for constant) Vmax=C*sqrt(N). Finally, force applied by a moving, massive object can be calculated using Newton's second law, F=dP/dT (P is the pin's momentum, T is the time it takes for the pin to go from velocity Vmax to 0, transferring all it's energy into the gun and the bullet, but as I said, let us assume all of it goes into the bullet), or F=M*dV/dT (M, mass of the pin, dV is the difference in velocity, Vmax-0, which is simply Vmax. This is because P=M*V, which means dP=M*dV, ignoring relativity). So, F=M*C/dT*sqrt(N). The time varies slightly, but insignificantly, so let us assume it is a constant. So that's it. The force exerted by the pin on the bullet is some constant (calculatable, as mentioned and as shown), times the sqrt of N, the number of rubber bands on the gun. So there you go. Just a little something I did out of the blue the other day and thought I would share a proof of my conjecture from what feels like eons ago. I hope you enjoyed. Finally, I would like to tell you guys, perhaps as a little tease, since I'm not sure if I will ever upload it, but I have made 1 more gun after I stopped posting. I have already slightly teased about it in my user info. I guess I'll tell you guys what it is if I'm already posting something here again :) Possibly my most enjoyable, most well received, and quite innovative gun of all time? The REMPAR-2. I built the REMPAR-3 (I was also going to call it S5 when I thought about posting it). In a brief summary, it's a pump action, chambering (or bolt action as I and many others falsely used to call it), magazine fed rifle, that's only 5 layers thick all over, except one tiny area where it's 8 layers thick (1.5 extra on either side), as a reinforcement, not necessary if you use less rubber bands. Oh, actually, there's another small necessary area where it's 7 layers thick, but it's tiny and doesn't make the gun look bulky at all, and who cares. Plus, the one is around the pump, which looks quite natural, and the other is "disguised" as a detachable sight (not really detachable) that also looks fine. It also looked fairly good for a gun that I made, it used (if I remember correctly) a grand total of 0 broken pieces, which is a big accomplishment for me (the mag has some broken white rods, but fuck off), and it worked flawlessly, reaching ranges over 80ft and being able to go at 2-4 rounds per second, depending on your skill level with it. In other words, I could shoot 4rps; My girlfriend, with no experience or practice, could do 2rps, which says something about the gun's comfortability and ease of use in my opinion. It shot blue rods up to an accuracy of about 5x5cm (2x2in) over 30ft, which is amazing for a Knex gun, and it was truly super comfortable. It wasn't even long at all, which is saying a lot, looking at some other people's attempts at 5-wide pump actions (I may also be guilty of an attempt several years ago). Being quite short and only 5 wide, it is also quite light. I'm sorry, I just really liked this gun, I think it was truly my best creation ever (of course, the S3 is by far the most innovative gun I've made, but it's mostly a concept gun, not meant for real effectiveness). I may post it in the future, but I'll make no promises. I suppose I won't leave you guys completely hanging and take a picture of it. Oh yes, there's also a neat, fun little thing I did, originally because I saw no other option, but then I actually really loved it. I'm talking about the mag-lock. It locks automatically (there's a band on it, but it ripped a long time ago, so...) and the mag cannot fall out. Then you pull on it with your middle finger, similar to a trigger, and the mag just drops right out. Love it :)

I've observed that the majority of people think range (and reliability though this seems to be taken way too seriously) wins wars outdoors. So what would you choose for a weapon if it were indoors with a few walls and corners, tables and other cover, and probably the largest room being no larger than 20x20 meters? Just curious. I was thinking that for this reason, I'd like to come up with a shotgun. I have an idea floating in my head if anyone wants to hear it as I can't build it for the obvious usual reasons.

Check out Sock Wars, a knitting-based game of assassination by socks. This sounds awesome, but I definitely don't knit fast enough to even try. (And I've never knitted socks!) Some of you might find it useful, though... looks like anyone can join from any country. Sign-ups close 3 May, assignments go out 9 May.From their info page: WHAT IS SOCK WARS?Sock Wars is the original and bloodiest extreme knitting tournament. If you are brave enough sign up to do battle you will be emailed a top secret assassination dossier on 9th May 2008. This file contains the details of your target and an exclusive, never-been-published-before knitting pattern with which to assassinate them.To kill your target you must knit them the pair of socks in the pattern (your weapon) and mail it to them. Once your target receives your parcel they are dead and must post their death on the "fallen comrades" section of the sockwars site. They must also immediately send you details of their intended target (who becomes your next person to assassinate) along with their unfinished knitting (which becomes your new weapon). All the while this is going on, someone has been assigned you as their target!Prepare to live in fear! Kill or be killed!

This is about what are the best guns (hand-held guns) to use in a base. There are many opinions about this so everyone please post what you think.

KI is down (lolidunno why) so I decided to make this here. We want to do it again this year but don't know when or where yet, probably at the same place as the last few years but that could change. I just want to put this out there so we can discuss or if anybody is interested. Mainly doing it because I remember DJ and Dunkis saying they'd like to come down for a war this summer, and I was wondering if that was still a viable option for them. And dammit, KILLERK, get in KIchat! :P Since KI is down it is probably hard for anybody to get to KIchat at the moment. Here's a link for you guys: http://cbe002.chat.mibbit.com/?channel=%23kichat&server;=irc.darkmyst.org To anybody using an IRC client: server is irc.darkmyst.org, port 6667 (I think, though that might not be necessary), channel is #kichat

I would like someone to tell what is the best knex gun for wars
Question by superbestknex | last reply
This game is called heavy cannon knex war you have a heavy cannon in the center of your yard. an one target a 12 inch cardboard box 4 ft off the ground on each side your side and your opponents side Players can only have a assault rifle the goal is to use the heavy cannon to hit a target on the enemys side but only one person can use the heavy cannon at a time if you get hit while using the cannon a member of your oppentents team can take the cannon and you must return to your side first one to hit the target wins the war. IMPORTANT: THE TARGET CAN ONLY BE HIT BY THE HEAVY CANNON NOT THE ASSAUT RIFLES IMPORTANT: IF YO HAVE THE HEAVY CANNON IT CAN ONLY BE SHOT AT THE TARGET NOT OTHER PEOPLE

I made a forum topic on which weapons people would prefer in a knex war. The knexsayer, or BR18. It seems most people prefer the BR18. Now I'm wondering: BR8, or knexsayer?Give your opinions! My opinion: The BR8, because it is super-light compared to the Knexsayer, and I get a better range with the BR8.You?

After being a knexer for about 2 years i am dieing to have a war. I was wondering if anyone live near Blacksburg, VA ( the place where the Virginia tech massacre was). There are many great parks in the town and i could provide ammo, so please respond if you think you could attend. thanks sprout_less

Sorry, i forgot last weeks. 10/18/09 The KI army has gotten fiercer. A lot fiercer. They are building MASS amounts of guns. They hire outsiders such as people who never heard of K'NEX guns, but heard of K'NEX. I think it is because they have such a small army. I have switched my BR-18 to a BR8 because i needed a lighter gun. I just carry a bunch of ammo around. My current weapons are: BR8 Oodassault V3.3 T.B.O.S O.S.S.R I've got a pouch of ammo for each. My vehicle for transporting and gun storage has broke down. I called a repairman to fix it a hour ago. It should've taken 10 minutes. 10/19/09 The IN army woke up to a attack on our camp. Everybody grabbed all the ammo and thier best guns and got out and fought. I was truely fierce. The medic team was all out and, suprsingly, a lot of people got bandages and started recovering. As for the KI army, Thier medid slacked out, so thier still are people limping off the field.

Knex viking war ship, the historic art of Knex. Well, to be honest, I don't really know where I came up with this idea, but it came to me in a flash. The designs pictured are just prototypes, but right now I am working on a way to get all of the paddles on either sides to move back and fourth at the same time (any suggestions or help would be appreciated)/ Anyway, tell me what you think, and remember, this is only v1.

This is it, the most durable knex lightsaber ever imagined. Each piece doubles up the next creating a blade that will not bend nor break, even with high speed collision. The hilt (figure 2) is also quite detailed considering this is made with knex. The only con to this is that the blade doesn't retract. If you like what you see then tell me. I will make it an instructable if asked.
