The roller size is determed by experiment for best performance and size. The mouse sensor resolution is known so you can calculate mm/step. Then use the calibration factor in the software to address the error.

The Uno board is powered by the breadboard DC power supply. Pay attention to the polority of wiring!

Sorry the case was designed in 123D which is no longer available. It's fairly easy to modify the STL file to fit your needs.

I just tried the sketch can be downloaded without issue. It can be opened by Arduino IDE, or a text editor.

Both software and handware mouse emulator is available. This is more suitable to be used when you don't want to take the risk using none-authorized software or hardware which is not uncommon if you work with sensitive information.

ATtiny85 can do the same. But that requires installation of mouse driver which in some cases are not permitted. In some places plug in such an USB device will trigger an red alarm.

Absolutely ATtiny85 can do it. But the sketch needs to be rewritten since the ATtiny85 use different libaries.

Any PS/2 mouse should suffice. The particular model I used was made by Logitech and pretty much the universal design underhood of HP and Dell mice. You may need to change the sensor module design to fit the different circuit board if use different brands, or simply adds wires to the IR sensors.
