Yes this is just friction fit. Since it wasn't made to very high standard, there is a slight warp to it that means the cap will fit tightly if you put it on and twist it.
It's been a while since I've used this rack but it swayed a little more than a regular bikepacking saddle bag. You could reduce the sway by adding a means of fixing the t joint to the seat post more securely such as rubber strips for friction and hose clamps. Also you could put on additional lines of paracord from the saddle rails to the sides of the rack.
Sorry for the late reply but I see you have made my project. I never weighed how much it could support, but I did try briefly sitting on it and I weighed about 70kg at the time, it flexed a lot though when I did so I wouldn't recommend any more than 30kg.

Thank you! Yes I agree, I will be taking it on longer journeys as free time arises and maybe a V2 will be in order. As for sliding, when it is loaded it really doesn't. There is a very slight side to side movement but nothing more than I've felt wearing a large backpack. The longer tests will determine if it's a problem though.

I tend to make things out of recycled scrap from around the shed so given what came to hand I got this result. The only way I could tell the action was right was through trial and error. This instructable was made for the purple challenge, it was a project I did a year or two ago and the result is from what few pictures I could find of it as I wasn't documenting the build process at the time. So yes this is more showing off what I built (similar to my most recent instructables). I seem to remember a number of years ago you could just post projects without the need for instructions but I can't seem to find that functionality any more (perhaps I missed it) so I just uploaded it as an instructable.
The well for the neck was maybe 1 or 2 mm shallower than the original body so even with the truss rod cranked up it stayed low.
