Hi there! Sorry for the late response. I don't use this website very often as they have stopped standalone videos being posted to this website. I use play sand with Portland cement, but when making the leaves, I mix in nylon or polyfibres in place of traditional aggregate, so you can have a mix which is easier to use with this application. Hope this helps. :)

I'll keep my eye out, if you post anything here. :)
View Instructable »Thank you! It is very simple and can improve what has been created before. I'll be using a whole load of sand and glue to cover up mistakes in the future, plus use it to create textures, which are otherwise quite difficult to do. Have a whole load of ideas already! :D

The alginate is an amazing material to work with for molding. I have just started using it and it has scope for so much! the detail is absolutely amazing and the alginate picked up even the fine detail in finger prints and pores of the skin.

That's a really nice thing to say and thank you! I look forward to seeing your leaves. :) I used to varnish my leaves, but I don't put any clear coat on these days and leave the acrylic paint as the finish. I prefer that finish and is ok for indoors, although acrylic paint is pretty durable. I would give a customer the option whether they would want a clear coat. If there was a true matt varnish or lacquer, I would use it, but the matt varnish/lacquers on the market, all seem to have a gloss or sheen, or the products I have used, at least.
