    It is interesting that you ask. The electrolytic caps are the last stage of your circuit and are used to store the charge that you have harvested from the air. Increasing the amount of electrolytic capacitors will increase the charge capacity of your circuit but will not require you to add an additional bridge rectifier (diodes) or ceramic capacitors. So you can add more electrolytic caps and leave everything else the same. Note that it will probably take a bit longer to charge and get a reading though. Hope this helps.     Any variations in your coil will hinder your results and, with the fine magnet wire, even small kinks can cause undue resistance in the wire. Try to keep all windings tight, without kinks, perpendicular to the tube and parallel to each other for best results! Hope this helps!

    Hi! I am glad you asked! Cardboard should NOT be used. A very high voltage current will be passing through the coil which create sparks which can ignite flammable materials like cardboard. Also, the diameter of your coil is directly proportional to your output voltage so it best to stay at or near the parameters shown. Great question and I hope this helps!

    Good question! To put it simply, the thick wire holds a high current but at a low voltage. When you put an electric field near a coil it induces a charge in the nearby coil. When that second coil is a thin wire with a lot of turns, that charge changes from high current to a high voltage and that high voltage, when pulsed by the circuit, is what gives us our effect! Pretty simple, right?

By applying a heat gradient to the device, the same motion will occur, even in complete or relative darkness showing that it is not kinetic energy of moving particles that causes this motion but instead thermal expansion which causes this novel device to move.Great question!     Thanks for reaching out and congratulations on finishing the project!There are two main factors which will affect your results, input and output. Input will vary depending on where the device is located, particularly where and how high your antennae is placed. Output voltage will be affected by the draw on the system and keep in mind at the scale described the draw of even your testing equipment will affect the system's charge.

    Want more power? Connect a bigger antennae and add a sufficient ground. Want even more? Connect these circuits in parallel for more current, in series for more voltage.

Are you asking me if this is a magic wand? Well, if you define a magic wand as a device which uses the unique properties of crystals to summon energy from the aether... then, yes.     This would be a very simple and effective way to protect your meticulously wound coil. Great idea!

    Thanks for the suggestion. A crucial component to this device is the "top load" which is achieved in this case with a metallic disc, a large steel washer. Often times, a sphere or toriod is used as well and a mesh is also a great suggestion. Give it a try and let us know what you find!

    Oh, yea, right. Tesla the car company is different from Tesla the inventor for whom the Tesla Coil is named. The Tesla Wall to which you're referring is basically a large battery bank. Actually anyone can build one with some Li-Ion batteries or deep cycle lead acids, a charge controller and some hardware.

    The EM draws about 9v 2A if I'm not mistaken. You could do it with my FREE ENERGY FROM THIN AIR (https://www.instructables.com/id/Free-Energy-From-Thin-Air/) device. But you'd probably need somewhere between 10^2 and 10^3 of them attached to a correlatively larger antenna. Sounds awesome!

    To make your own coil will require some trial and error based on your particular setup. It may require more effort than the average "Instructable-r" would care to exert, though I am happy offer a few tips that may help get your project going. Firstly, function testing your solenoid/hall effect sensor unit should be performed without much regard for stable levitation. Simply ensure that, firstly, at a given point in space your neodymium magnet is being attracted and, secondly, at a point linearly nearer to the solenoid the sensor reacts to the magnets field and turns off power to the system.     You're almost there! Strip the ends of the wire. One end, press between the top of your tube and a washer, then glue in place. The other end connects to the circuit, this (the big one) is your secondary coil. Hope this helps!

    This is no joke! Solar panel are getting cheaper but places to put them are not. Great questions! while this configuration produces more energy per square meter, it does require more solar panels. In addition, your observation was astute.     Interesting question! Piezoelectrics is another fascinating way to generate electricity. A piezo film can generate electricity from movement alone. However a typical piezoelectric generator generates a mere 5 mJ of energy. (5.28mJ)An iPhone, for example, has a battery capacity of 5.45 watt hours. The 5.28mJ output of a piezo converts to 0.000001466666666667 Wh. That means it would take one piezo 3.89 million hours to charge a phone, or it would require 3.89 million piezos to charge a phone in one hour.Cool idea but probably not the most efficient solution.     This is an excellent question. Theoretically, I believe it does; and experimentally, the results are the same. In reference to your side note, various interferometry experiments can be performed with this device. I implore you to put one together, test your hypothesis and share your findings.P.S. RIP, photons.

    My experimental data has shown me that light is a wave and therefore there must be a medium through which ot passes. For anyone studying these topics, having a lab interferometer is certainly a worthwhile venture.

    In the case of this device, energy is transmitted radially, out in all direction, since, the current is grounded wirelessly through the air. If, however, a path of lesser resistance is introduced (i.e. placing an object near the coil) then the current will focus to this point taking a new path of least resistance which can be demonstrated by a spark bridging the gap to that object. (I have callouses on my fingers to prove it!)

    Yes, it absolutely does. The windings of the primary coil couple with that of the secondary coil acting as a transformer which is what creates the high voltage discharge.     Whoa, cool!

    To power an LED wirelessly, simply attach a resistor to the anode leg of your LED and place it within the field of your coil. What we are doing is creating a path of least resistance. Without the resistor, both legs receive the same input from the coil. By adding a resistor to one side, we make the cathode leg the path of least resistance. The current then travels through the diode of the LED and out the other side where the high voltage current is grounded by the air alone on the other leg of your LED.Almost any LED will do, but you can experiment with different resistances to optimize based on your setup. You can then move it around to find where it lights up the brightest signifying the strongest part of your Tesla Coil's EM field.

    That is funny, good point! But, consider that in some applications connecting devices with no wires is beneficial even if it is a bit less efficient. Wireless electricity is beneficial for convenience, for example. Wireless mobile chargers are convenient because they allow you to toss your cell phone on a pad instead of dealing with plugging in wires, even if it takes a few extra minutes to charge.Can you think of any other applications where wireless electricity could be used?Wireless

    Interesting question! I wouldn't expect to power a house with one big coil, but rather many smaller coils placed throughout the home in convenient locations. But speculatively, it would have to be quite large.

    This is where things get interesting. The fluorescent tubes are being powered not by 120v but a very high voltage of 1-10kV!

    I think what makes this seem inefficient is the fact that energy is propagated radially, out in all directions. So, at any given point, the energy transfer may seem inefficient. This circuit runs very efficiently and with minimal heat output. The challenge is to capture all the energy radiated from the coil.     The TIP41C, caps and resistor and jumper wires are pretty inexpensive, yes, but the parts for the case, breadboard and coils start to add up a bit, not to mention winding the coils can be very tedious. It important though to have a perfectly wound coil because any gaps in windings or even the slightest overlap will cause the coil to malfunction. I also found that by adding a case it allows the circuit to be isolated from sensitive electronics and flammable materials and it also adds a nice platform for experimentation. This is the simplest and easiest Tesla Coil circuit design I have ever built and it works great! As you pointed out, some of the parts can are interchangeable so feel free to make any adjustments as you see fit.

    Thanks for checking out my project. A lot of these questions are covered in the Instructable but I will answer them briefly for you.The ceramic capacitors used are 104s and their purpose is to polarize the charge. Electrolytic caps are 50v rated and are used to hold the charge in order to provide a usable current. In this example the ground is connected to the case, and thus grounded through the users hand. Scaling this up for that purpose will require a more significant antennae, ground and wiring up multiple circuits in series which is covered in more detail in the article.Let me know if you have any other questions and be sure to post your project pictures here when you're done for everyone to see!
