View Instructable »Thank you for bringing this to my attention, I just looked it up and to my surprise it seems that the US never had a nickel coin. Here in South Africa pre 1980 coins are either silver or nickel and most new bi-metal coins are nickel with a bronze surround.I will update the Instructable with an alternative, the most common I can think of is battery tabs on Amazon. It will be interesting to to try something with flint, might just overheat easily.

Thank you!You can definitely use ring magnets for all of the magnets the only reason I used normal magnets for the lower ones is because they have a slightly higher flux density, originally my turbine was heavier and needed the stronger magnets.
View Instructable »Hi,The middle bottom magnet holder is adjustable on the rods, in the image it's a bit too far to the left. It should be moved more to the middle so that the north poles are facing each other.

View Instructable »Thank you! I definitely agree, my joule thief lights just slide onto the ends of the battery so I'm not concerned about that. But I wouldn't recommend putting them in a sealed flashlight. The zinc air batteries would definitely be more convenient but from past experiments the output seems to be much lower.

View Instructable »There's lots of unused space in the printed body so I'm sure something like this can be incorporated

I will do an update with some thorough testing...That was my idea behind this, something for a bug out bag that will power joule thief lights and can be stored indefinitely with some spare strips to rebuild old used ones.I'm looking at designing a "power pack" that's the same concept but will output more volts and/or amperage depending on what you need it for.
View Instructable »Great idea!..sealed with an electrolyte package.p.s. as disgusting as it might seem in an emergency situation urine would make an excelent electrolyte.

Unfortunately I don't have the components at the moment but all that basically changes is you remove the "bulb part" of the switch to make more room then you need a heatsink that fits into the body, replace the resistor with a cc module and trim the reflector a bit. I will definately do one in the future.
View Instructable »Hi!You absolutely can, just make sure it's the correct voltage one (3.7v)

Hi!On a 1w conversion like this the output about doubles and it's a much more uniform beam. I also did a 10w CREE conversion on one of my mags and that just completely lights up the neighborhood!
Hi!Ironically that's exactly what happened, it was brought to the salvage center by our police. A lot of my maglites still have our local "South African Police Service" logo on. Another problem I saw was more than 70% had badly corroded batteries inside.
Hi, I'll have a look and let you know.
