Hey there! I didn’t prime the compound as I had plenty of paint, you may want to as the compound does absorb some. As far as coverage it goes a long way depending on how thick you make your bricks, I was able to do a 12x8 wall. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

Hey there, I’m sure it was just pine. Same as a 2x4. You can use whatever you like for the top but I wanted this to be super heavy duty. Looking forward to seeing your results!

Sorry for some reason I didn’t see tour question...I’m thinking it might have been to thick? Just a thin coat over the top of it would work well. (I hope that’s what you did)

Hey there, I used very inexpensive fence planks from the Home Depot. They were about $1.30 each. Off the top of my head I think they are about 4” wide. Thanks for your interest in my project!

Hair dryer doesn’t come close! Gotta get the plastic hot enough to turn clear for molding.
View Instructable »I’ve only used a good heat gun, but you need to do small sections at a time so I’m not sure how a heat lamp would work.

I would think...but I'm not sure how much detail you will get with the teeth?
- JasonF205 commented on JasonF205's instructable Milk Jug SkullsView Instructable »
YES!! I always paint 20 or so skulls at once. Sooo I first spray an off white inside the whole skull..you don't need much, I use the 2X rustoleum....then once dry, I spray outside with 2X flat black on the lower surfaces, eyes, mouth, nose and cheeks...I also "sprit" just a bit here and there so they aren't all the same. Just as it's dry to the touch I soak a sponge with a scrubby side in thinner and wipe off the excess black...I also take some time and "scrub" the teeth...don't take to much off....after all the skulls dry I use a latex interior flat wall paint (orange brown)...I brush it on all over the top surfaces...then while wet I wipe off excess with a damp dish towel....it takes practice not to wipe to much off! I keep a bucket of water handy and just keep soaki…

Actually, the ones I've made are for outdoors! At Halloween we hang several of them in a tree, very cool look at night.

I found them at the Home Depot. Very thin, works well but it does take practice! I did buy a cheap scroll saw but it saves me time just using the jig saw.

Instead of the LED candle I used a dollar store pumpkin light that changes color.

Really only took a few hours each night....first 2 nights I let the compound dry 24hrs and the last night was the paint.....that did take a while on the full wall.

The plastic jugs never sticks to the resin skull.
Thanks! No gallon size plastic jugs?? Not even water jugs??

yes but it doesn't look very real and if you are doing a 12' wall you will see the seams. For about $30 I can do a whole wall.
It depends on how much you use...I would NOT use it for outdoors unless you could really seal it well and it needs to be on a wall that isn't going to be rubbed or banged into.
WOW...ok..the idea sounds good but this is what works for me...adding paint to the compound will make it tough to get a heavy coat to stick...it will want to run off. I used a whole pail for one wall. I used another pail to do several wall sections. The finish dry brush means that you use very little paint on the brush so it's almost dry and lightly brush over the top of the brick.
View Instructable »Sooooo...I have tried...the problem is that if you ad paint to the compound it becomes thin and it's tough to get it to stick to the wall without running off...you need a ton of paint to make it dark enough...some sort of powder pigment might work?

The resin skull I use has a removable jaw...when making a full skull I just hot glue the jaw back on....it does take more time to make...I just mostly make the jawless because in my opinion they look more real??
Not sure what your question is but if I'm making the full skull I just hot glue the jaw back on....it does take more time getting the teeth detail with the lower jaw.
I use the rustoleum 2X spray paint for the inside (off white flat) and for the outside (flat black) the finish grunge coat is just flat latex wall paint. Hope this helps

Great idea! We had a half way to Halloween party to go to with a creepy tiki theme! I made ours short so we could eat, drink and chat.
