One might make the case that certain qualities aren't good or bad independent of application.Soft metal is great for certain things and awful for others.

I'm not a pulmonologist, a metallurgist, or a phrmacologist. Here's what I know about heating galvanized metal though, as a guy that has made very very hot rocket stoves out of galvanized ducting. You're outside. The first time you get it really hot, don't inhale right next to it. You can't really do that anyway, since it's gonna be a thousand degree air, but when you get it really hot it'll get very shiny(this is the zinc liquifying) and then very dull grey (the zinc has boiled off). After that it's just steel. So maybe don't fire this thing up in your car with the windows rolled up. But it's outside, so dont sweat it.

How is this holding up? Is it cracking or otherwise coming apart? I would think that the different expansion rate of the bricks and the concrete would cause problems over time.

This is why I never light my new firepit in the house the first couple of times.

That angle grinder would be faster than the screwdriver and hammer for cutting off the top. Just do plunge cuts first to avoid breaking the cut off disks, then grind the remaining arcs off with the wheel.

If you check your local yellow pages (or modern analog) you will probably find a place near you that does granite countertops.I promise you will find a dumpster there that is packed full of broken and offcut peices of countertops. these have already been lapped flat and will not flex, and are free.Happy hunting!

Eventually your mineral content will go up, since those don't evaporate like the water does. However, if you have a deep gravel bed and plants, you shouldn't have to remove water very often at all. Like once a year or so.I'm sure that delicate fish liek discus wouldn't like it, but stick with fish that have been bred in aquariums for 20 generations and you'll be fine.

If you put two holes in your 3d model from top to bottom, you'd get what amounts to index holes on your patterns once it's sliced. then you can drill those out and run a soda straw or something down the holes to align the pieces during assembly.

You might try to drill a hole in the two pieces and jam a bamboo skewer in there to hold it while gluing. It looks great! Good job!

Moss is a non-vascular plant, it really only has rootlets to grab onto stuff. It gets no moisture or nutrition from them. It's also a lot harder to kill than you might realize.

I will be interested to see how long this lasts. I hate to say it, but that particle board you used for the bottom won't react well to being wet all the time, and that tarp is going to almost guarantee that.However- Once it starts to come apart, you can easily build another one! It might work out so that the planter disintegrates at the same rate the plant inside needs to be repotted anyway. It looks great, and I like the instructable. very clear and concise.

Split the log into eight wedges with an axe and jam them back together. Either bury the bottom, pile some rocks around it, or wrap some wire around to keep it intact while it burns. But a chainsaw is a hell of a lot easier

You can use flour for glue. A small amount of flour in that water when you soak the filler will make a nice gluten prtein binder.
