Aside from just looking cool, this was my first project I attempted when I started using a laser cutter. It was a way for me to practice on a machine I had never used before, and figure out how to design a layered piece rather than a rastered picture. It's also a framework for a functional version with a raspberry pi inside.

I've seen people do sharpies on fabric shoes, but for leather... You could try to get a refillable paint pen, fill it with leather dye, and draw on the shoe.
