Honestly asking, how does the water get hot if you don't let it run for a bit? Cold water doesn't cut grease and get your hands as clean. That sink isn't far from the water heater but it takes about 20 seconds to warm up.

Have I got a treat for you sir... I remembered I used the fabrication of the blocks as the subject of a separate video on my engineering GD&T channel. If you don't work on design of manufactured parts you'll have no interest in any of the videos on that channel (pretty boring stuff otherwise) but you may get something out of the one that shows the blocks being made. Here's the link:

Good, I made a basic print already. Let me dig it up and I'll post it somewhere and give you the link. Or tell me an email address and I'll send it.

Clever!!!

Bursting is a concern but a minimal one. I built a semi-automated water rocket launcher that has launched the same bottle 60+ times pressurized to 120+ psi each time with no issues. Plus watch the burst tests online of the cutting edge water rocket crowd and they get 200+ psi before bursting. Plastic bottles are impressive!

Thanks. I never know how much fabrication footage to show. I've included a lot more machining in my "rain gutter power" videos.

Goodness YES!!! Being new to instructables I knew nothing of all the great contests. Thank you SO MUCH for telling me!!!

Echoing the same sentiment. Had my fingers crossed for the grand prize but am pleased to see who won it. It's the one entry I want on my living room wall RIGHT NOW! But it will have to wait until I have time to build one myself. Congrats!!!

Yes, instructions for where to find the files are in the instructable. You'll have to figure out a shaft though. I recommend metal but other materials may work.

Fusion 360. They have a "startup" license you can renew each year as long as your business makes less than $100k/year which I easily qualify for! CAD and CAM are all in one program and there are plenty of videos online to teach you how to use it.
It really is the first CNC. If you haven't already, look up This Old Tony "Build Your Own CNC" or something like that. He puts a cheap CNC kit on an etch a sketch and does a brilliant job explaining CNC. Better than I could do I think!
Absolutely!
View Instructable »Agreed! I don't think I have the patience for that. But somehow I have the patience to build a machine to do it! :)

I'm considering using it for one of those gravity generators that use a crazy gear ratio to generate power while gradually lowering a weight. Thanks for suggesting the Schottky diodes, I heard about them from another maker and mentioned that's what I switched to in the video. One of those things I had no clue about prior to the project!
