Thank you! The circuit board you posted uses SMD (surface mounted) components which can be tricky to solder if you don't have the required specialized equipment. You can however redesign the circuit using through-hole components (such as the PCB I designed above) and it should be very possible to do as long as you have access to the necessary schematics...

Apologies, perhaps 'developing areas' is more appropriate. Also, perhaps you might find this article interesting in response to your comments on plastic in poorer communities: https://resource.co/article/plastic-pollution-caus...
Thanks! I used Fusion 360 (Autodesk) for CAD.
View Instructable »On the contrary, it is specifically useful for these areas as they tend to suffer most from plastic pollution. Developed nations tend to have established waste management systems. Not to mention, many countries export their waste to developing countries. It is shocking to realize just how widespread and far-reaching our uses for plastics have become. Not to mention, which recycling facilities are you talking about (especially ones that exist in developing nations)? I have never heard of a recycling plant buying waste plastic. They are the ones who are usually paid to take the plastic (especially from developed nations). Regardless, perhaps this article explains this situation better: https://resource.co/article/plastic-pollution-caus...Thank you for your question :)

Wow! Very nicely done, I would never have thought of such an idea...

In the description, I did mention that the product should be able to operate without electricity, yet I did use an oven. However, as mentioned in the reply above, the intended method of heating is by fire. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to simulate this as it requires a fire and I was working indoors, which wouldn't have turned out to well if I had tried (CO poisoning). Fortunately, I did have the next best alternative which was an oven. As for water, in many communities, the problem isn't the lack of water, but rather the lack of drinking and potable water. This solution, fortunately, doesn't require clean water and as such, any stream or a nearby body of water will work in terms of cooling down the brick. You are right though, I should have made this clearer in the Instructable, thank you…

Well, plastics are all around us. In our products, disposables, and everyday items. While I have only tried making bricks from High Impact Polystyrene (HIPS), I have yet to try other plastics. In particular, Polyethylene (PE) as it is the plastic used in making disposable bags. A material that I am sure no one will have trouble getting a hold of in the near future given it's widespread use and availability.
