I'm thinking an old car rim or a 5 gallon bucket with concrete in it for the base.
Very Cool Idea. Reading it I was thinking of taking an old car rim and mounting your pipe floor flange to it. That way it would take up less space. If you need to lower the center of gravity, cover the holes in the rim and fill it with concrete. Or you could use a 5 gallon bucket with some concrete in it as the base.
I picked up a 2nd mower because I thought my rider had a bad motor. Now I know what I need to do.....

Great idea. Like everyone else, I'm probably going to put my spin on it. I don't use a box spring because of a platform bed. So I'll probably make the legs longer, and have more than one stringer down the middle. My thought is to use a joist hanger inside the box for the stringers. Then run 1x4's across for slats to support the mattress. In my case, I'll probably make the 4 outside rails stand up from the legs and the stringers to allow for a lip for the matress to sit in.

Looks great. Forgive me for skimming the article, but do the fans blow up or suck down? In my mind, sucking down would be optimal. But then you need somewhere for the air to go.I'm considering building something similar, but putting a small exhaust fan on the back side to vent the cooling pad and allow the fans to be sucking down.
Totally understandable. I had a laptop that sucked air from under and exhausted it out the side. My solution was the self adhesive Velcro dots. I put the soft side on the bottom of the laptop, and then the rough side on some pop bottle caps. I cleaned up the sharp edges on the caps and could attach/remove the caps like they were stand offs'. That allowed about an inch (2.54 cm) of space between the laptop and the surface it was sitting on.

How wide were your boards? Were they basically 1x2 or 1x4? I want to make two of them, but I'm planning on using new lumber.
