Another way I've heard of is to us a plug cutter and cut around the nails. Then use another wooden plug to fill the hole. I bought some plug cutters a couple years ago to try this out but they're still in the package.

I need to try this. I have a lock that I deciphered some time ago and I was so proud of myself. I found it the other day and couldn't remember the combo. Prolly should have written down the combo somewhere.

Describe how you made the repairs and this would be a good instructable. Without some commentary it is just before and after photos.
If the window is frozen shut don't try to force it by trying the switch up and down. Many of these are cable actuated and this will eventually break the cable. I had to replace two on a Chevy Silverado. The replacement window operators are cheap enough but I learned my lesson after the second one.
