Hey @ocelotsden! This concern is most certainly warranted, and was a pretty big stressed of mine while doing the final water testing. Although wood is definitely not the best material to use here, my true goal for this project was to showcase the capabilities of different digital fabrication tools in a mixed media project. This project paralleled some supply chain access issues, and wood offered a somewhat cost effective and accessible option for this larger scale mill. If I ever get around to creating an Assistive Aquaponics Fish Tank v2, i’ll hold out for some better suiting material :)

Theoretically the tank holds nearly 8.5 US gallons, while the grow box holds roughly a 1/2 gal - yet, i’ve never filled the tank beyond 3/4 capacity, as it really becomes an unnecessary potential for conflict with the electronic system housed below the grow box. As for the tank and grow box, my research primarily fell into optimizing area for bacterial growth in the grow box, and not a direct relation between the tank and grow box themselves. Thus, the grow box is scaled to parallel the max width of the tank, and not any specific ratio. If your looking into this somemore, It might be worth while reading up on hydroponic grow mediums, as their characteristics may play a role in the desired ratio.
