This is great!I have an idea for the push-button to keep the position:It can be used as to set "position lock" by acting as a switch when to read the analog input from the joystick. A click would allow read the analog input (activate the servo control), a second click would save the current analog values and keep it as such (disconnecting the joystick signal). Then clicking the button would reactivate servo control. :-)

I was wondering if water recirculation could be done drip-coffee-maker style where check valves and water temperature differences would control the recirculation

I was thinking the same thing, also i understand that for your LED strip it would be hard to place them in a way that the point towards the subject, because it seems you placed it inside the loop; to make it more like a light ring. You could also add a potentiometer (variable resistor) in series to make the lamp brightness adjustable

Amazing I made something similar although with transistors, logic gates and an h-bridge for the motors. I definitely have to grab an arduino kit. BTW I had a similar sensor design but i placed it in the middle of the panel
Great Idea! I have a few suggestions though, you can adjust the threaded rod in the middle to shorten it on one side and then you could also adjust the spokes to make that "side" flatter
