  • I love all the captioned images in your instructable. It looks like a fun game for birthday parties and large family get-togethers. Have you thought about having the children work in groups or teams that correspond with the colors of the 6 batteries? So the red team will set out and work together to find and return the red battery. You could add rules like "only your team members can unfreeze you" to add to the teamwork aspect.

  • Same for me with upper elementary and middle school students. We started out doing simple design and print projects, but when we started using it to design larger projects/models that I couldn't print, things got really fun. :) Instead of doing posters or powerpoints, students began creating scenes out of novels to present their chosen characters and models of primitive structures or the early settlements we were learning about in social studies. The 3D models students were able to create in Tinkercad, after they learned the basics, were terrific. What types of Tinkercad projects do you have your students working on in middle and high school?

  • You hit some really important points with this and provided some great tips! Ventilation is such an important thing to have for laser cutting in the classroom, and I know most companies that are catering to classroom setups have machines that are equipped with a fume exhaust and filtration systems, but it's still something to make sure of if purchasing one for your school. I know I have a lot to learn about laser cutting, but I never considered the damage the heat and smoke do to the lens and how important maintaining a cleaning routine would be. Thank you for sharing all this helpful info! :)

  • This is awesome and your results are definitely really colorful. I know some students who would love to see this experiment in action and can only imagine their excitement as those colors develop and spread. It looks like you used the anodes from a battery, is that what caused the unique colors?

That sounds like a really fun way to introduce making predictions in science, as well as math and ELA. Such a great idea! I love when fun, hands-on projects can be used to reinforce cross-curricular concepts.

I love school solar projects! Solar ovens were my favorite as a student and teacher. Solar balloons are really popular among my fourth-grade teacher friends, but the solar engraving is such a great project and I haven't seen it at the elementary level... I'm thinking a full day of solar energy exploration is in order and these are perfect activities to set up as a station rotation. :)
