    DIY Cloth Face Mask

The video link is in the update at the top and also in step 1. and here again https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-jgDg_FV7Q&t=17s

Layer the fabrics right sides together, pin and cut. That way you get two mirror image pieces.

    Thank you Stacey

There is now a video in Step 2, look for link from Sabrinayaya

Just did it! Sorry took so long

Try the Mask 1 reg size pattern on a grid, just uploaded.

Just uploaded it. Turns out to be pretty easy to do in photoshop elements. :)

Hey Manx. I have had many others print from the pdf and not have these problems. I think different printers have slight variations. Sorry it's been annoying. I just uploaded a Mask 1 pattern PDF with a grid. The Mask 1 piece A is the almost the same size as the Mask 2 single piece and it should fit most people. See if you can get that one to print right, or just draw it out on a piece of graph paper. Thank you for making mask for people in need.

The question of the century. Wish there was an easy answer. See discussion of filters in the research notes.

There is no data on this to know for sure.

    yes

Thank you for sharing. This is a different model for a community sewing project than I've seen before.

Mask 1 with the pocket has 2 pieces, A and B. Mask 2 has 1 piece, same both sides.

I posted it yesterday on Step 1

Paper towels are not very effective https://smartairfilters.com/en/blog/paper-towel-effective-against-viruses-diy-mask/

I don't know the effectiveness or breathability of those materials

Working on it! Maybe by end of weekend :)

Hey Little One,I sent a message to Pellon, maker of interfacing, fusables, stabilizers, and asked this question. Will include in an update if I find out.

Maybe, but is that scotchguard safe to breathe?

I think I fixed this. Let me know if it's still wonky.

Easier to see the wire channel here. Also I figured out that you should do the top stitching first, before the channel. then you don't have to try to sew around the wire. Also sew up one end when you do the channel, and then give your self a little extra channel space so after inserting wire you can sew up the other end. If you are making MASK 2, don't top stitich the bottom edge at this stage or you will be looking for your seam ripper in order to get the wire in. Speaking from multiple times doing this! duh.

Thank you. Yes. I will try to do that over weekend. Will sew with contrasting thread on plain fabric.

yes, sorry. I'm moving too fast. Supposed to be smartairfilters. I just added new info about filters to the notes. Have my engineer brother in law also working on this.

Yes! I did that the other day when i ran out. Twisty ties too. :)

Hi Janet,Read the 2 articles from Cleanairfilters.com. They have the best discussion about it that I could find so far. I haven't found a good DIY filter solution yet. If anyone else has, please share it.

I think I fixed this, Renamed the pattern pdfs. Clarified in the text. Hope it helps.

    Thank you for the support.

Hey Alelliot. I fixed the file names and added a regular size pattern PDF for Mask 2. Thanks for pointing out that confusing thing.

Looks good! Hello kitty!Make sure you wear it, remove it and wash it correctly to make it as effective as possible. See link in notes about that.

Hi Alelliot. Sorry for confusion. I should rename those pdfs and clarify this in the instructions. Mask 1 - the one with the pocket - has 2 pieces in the pattern, A and B. The file name is "reg size face mask". To make a regular size Mask 2, just use the pattern piece A and cut 4 of them. To make a large size Mask 2, use the file named "basic face mask pattern large". The photo you showed IS Mask 2 in process. The purple and black piece is open and the other one is layered and sewn, with right sides facing in. Does that make sense?

"Also when you pull of the mask disinfect and clean your hands with soap and then and only then clean with soap the face." yes yes! so important.

Hey Mitchell, Read the links from SmartAirFilters.com in the research list. They talk about this.

    Thanks for sharing Tamara

Yay! Looks styley :)Make sure to use it properly. Dirty to dirty, clean to clean with your hands. Spritz with hydrogen peroxide right away both sides when you take it off.

    DIY Cloth Face Mask

Hi Sarah, You insert the wire after you sew the channel for it. Through the side opening where the filter is meant to go, the pocket. I've started sewing a "cap" on each end of the channel to keep it from migrating when in the washing machine. Here is a sketch. Hope this helps.

That's what I thought too! Sorry but I have no idea where to get N95 filters. This website is doing a lot of research and might have some ideas: https://smartairfilters.com/en/knowledge-base/

If you can find one, heck yah!

So glad to help a little :)
