Yeah! when I started making it I wasn't sure how well the contact cement would hold up over time so I wanted to maximize the glue area keeping the pieces together. it ended up with a nice minimalist look.
Thanks! it hasn't left any residue yet. I wash it with soap if it gets sweaty and haven't had any problems. it hasn't spent very much time in direct sunlight yet so I still need to see how UV affects it.
I haven't had any problems with it getting too sweaty, but perforations wouldn't be too hard to add.

sorry for the late reply, most of mine stuck over the edges fine. I think if they started to lift I just stuck another sticker on top to keep it down. if that doesn't work you could try a couple dots of super glue under it. if you get it to work you should post a pic!
Thanks, it was a fun project!
oops! I forgot to put that in! I added a bit in the assembly step talking about bridge placement. for a soprano ukulele like this it should be about 13" between the nut and bridge, or twice the distance from the nut to the 12th fret (330mm in this case)

Thanks! I'm sure you could get even more sounds too! I just use what I have around. you could probably make some things to get different sounds. I bet a box with a snare in it would sound cool!
thanks! let me know how it goes!
It would be great for kids, I would just make the slots for the headstocks beforehand, or go for the drill/chisel method. I don't think routers and children mix well ;). It would be easy to make longer ones for concert/tenor/baritone sized ukuleles, you could have a rocking little band going! if you wanted to do something like a banjo you could too, just by changing how the string attach. loop end strings would just need a screw to loop around. It wouldn't be too had to add a cheap piezo pickup too to electrify it. the possibilities are endless!

I gathered up lots of stickers but I was worried I wouldn't have enough so I bought a book that was all stickers,"sticker bomb" by studio rarekwaiI. They have a bunch of different sticker books out now, I think 3 of general stickers and some theme ones like skulls too. I ended up just using the stickers from the book, that way they all looked similar and had the same finish etc.

I ended up just using a solid piece for these since I found I nice chunk of sitka spruce at the local lumber yard. If I were to have used 2x4's like I planned I would have thickness planed them first so they glued up nicely. if you don't have a thickness planer just try and find 2x4's that aren't cupped, for these a bit of warping down the length is less bad than the cross section being "C" shaped rather than rectangular. I would also glue them together in smaller sections, a bit longer than what you need for each animal. That way you can pick pieces easily where the grain looks nice together and if they are a bit C shaped you can nest them together "CC" and it won't be too bad. For glueing just remember to use lots of clamps =) hope that helps!
