I know this was posted 5 years ago, so I'm more than a little late to the party but I have a quick question. How does this thing hold up in the winter\freezing weather. I'm looking at setting this up in my garden, and it would be a pain to have to empty my reservoir and turn the whole system off due to freezing.thanks

These are amazing :D Saving this to my favourates so I can make some of these laterthankyou for sharing your knowhow :D
Just done a bag of 130 marbles. Few things I've learned:larger marbles need longer to heatThey can still crack and pop up to an hour after they have been cooled and are handle able... perhaps I should have cooled them longer but I thourght that just over 20 min in the water would be finesmaller batches heat and cool quicker and more evenly for a better end result
I did. I will be doing the "I made it" as soon as I find my camera lol
View Instructable »While I have to agree you should always wear safety glasses when doing this kind of thing, I just did it with 131 marbles (thats how many were in the bag I got for cheep) and none exploded. so I would say its a extremely small chance of happening. That said, if it does go wrong, its a high risk of injurty

with a laser printer, you can print the "image" mirrord, and then iron it on like a transfer, That even works on ceramic tiles, but will rub off with time

our local recycling centre wont buy cans, they take them for free, but then ship them off elsewhere for recycling, or now they send us a bundle for free.I've been looking at using electric heating elements too, but that'll cost more.As for buying the ingots, the only place localy that sells them are charging way over the odds.Yes, I could actually save money by buying online ect, but staying totally local (which they insist on) its cheaper to do it this way. I spent days costing up

Took a first prototype to them this morning (not really big enough for their scale, but was just a proof of concept). And our local MP was there. He recons if I get it working, he can get us a pile of cans from the local recycling centre who it turns out just sell the aluminum cans on to someone else to deal with, because it makes "too much slag" for them to bother. So not only am I saving the group money, I'm actually getting support from the local council... I think that counts as a win in my book

- dan3008 commented on How Do You - DIY's instructable Bottle Cutting With a Soldering IronView Instructable »
it can really speed things up if you have a bucket of ice water (or just cold water) too. Heat the bottle with the iron, like this, then dunk it. Dry and repeat

Nice build. I'm looking for something like this big enough to stamp the back of business cards for when i go to craft fairs (mine have blank backs, an it think it would be fun to add a twist). I'm thinking that with a rubber stamp instead of acrylic plate, with room for an ink pad in the bottom, this could be a really fun little project.
