I would avoid bleach on stainless steel because it can cause pitting. on most dishwashers, there are sanitary washes and rinses which heat those waters to very hot; also a drying cycle at the end helps get rid of the funk. one can also use hydrogen peroxide soak (the 3%) for a time. they use a much stronger version in space components to get rid of microbes. remember to leave in on for a while since everything is time dependent. also, don't forget the top with all the valves and closeures etc.
