Of course I managed to stand on the OLED whilst setting up the video, d'oh!.... but this gives you the gist, the breadboard layout is acting like a Sonoff Basic with the blue LED being the relay output pin.https://youtu.be/brDpUdJ6A_0

Great 'Ible as ever Mat, very well written, I've added a remote rotary encoder with an OLED display, use ESPEasy firmware connected to a WemosD1 mini to publish a value from the encoder, attach that MQTT node to the input of the slider and it works a treat :)

You actually got yours to work! I have one, it works....sometimes, I've just dragged it out of the drawer to do a little experiment. You may ask why it was in the drawer, well, it just wouldn't stay connected, at all. I think the longest it worked for without needing a reboot was about 2 days. I've tried everything, must've just got a duff one.

Congrats on the compo win! I'm making something similar inspired yours but I'm.......errrrr improving things ;) an ESP 8266 based domoticz/node red controller, it has a 12 position switch, several buttons, and some neopixels thrown in for fun! I might even write my first Instructable about it!

Great Instructable :)I got it all working fine, however I have one small problem and I think it probably down to the sensor I am using, when the sensor is completely dry (i.e. in air) I get a reading "Wet 238%) when the sensor is fully submerged in a glass of water I get a reading of "Wet 91%) - Any ideas where I have gone wrong? Thanks.

Hi Mike,I am actually using the new ESP Easy Mega firmware.. https://www.letscontrolit.com/wiki/index.php/ESPEasyMegaIt integrates seamlessly with Domoticz which I can then control from any device. You're right though, it all cheap and great fun!I also use Tasker for android which has some wonderful plugins that I use, eg MQTT publisher ;)If you've already seen Pete Scargill's site check out his "Big Timer" for Node-Red - really useful!Cheers. Great Instructable there chap, top darts, it's fairly similar to my own set-up, I have a pi running Node-Red and Domoticz, various Sonoff switches, ESP8266's doing odd things like running IR transmitters and Neopixels and the ubiquitous DHT22s, I had some old 433MHz sockets lying around so made an Arduino transceiver that is connected to the Pi and is controlled via Node-Red.Great write up!

Great project, great idea and great write up!The only caveat I would add is don't rely too heavily on IFTTT (or any cloud based service for that matter) for any home automation tasks, keep it local as web based services can go down, your internet can go down leaving you screaming at a box to turn the kitchen light on! At least if your router goes down you can restart it and if the power goes out it's all moot anyway ;)

Hi Woody, I was also thinking it would be easy (pun intended) to use this with ESPEasy, in the setup page and devices tab just set the gpio pin for each relay and Bob's your Mother's brother.

Nicely done :) and I in no way mean to criticise but after years of soldering terribly myself, I found an instructable on how to do through hole soldering (I see you have a decent soldering iron in the video!! ;) ) it makes all the difference to one's projects :)

Nice, I'm a complete programming luddite, I'm trying to learn Python but haven't got very far yet, I'm more of a "find an example" and bend it to my will kind of coder ;) I use tasker for Android - a lot! but Eventghost is written in Python and there are things I'd like to be able to do with it which I cannot currently.I could do away with the PC now for home automation but it runs the media centre anyway so it makes no difference if I have it on or off.I'm running a custom MQTT program on the Sonoff wifi switches that works really well and communicated with Domoticz on the RPi.

I've not documented mine as yet as it's very simple, just a couple of 433MHz sockets to control the air pump and lighting. These are controlled from an arduino with a 433MHz transmitter connected to a PC running eventghost that switches them on.You've given me some ideas concerning monitoring the pH and temperature though :) I'm using quite a few ESP8266 modules for things around the house so may well WiFi up the fishtank!Thanks.

Oh that sounds great :)I'm just starting out using Domoticz on and old Model A Pi that was lying around, I'm thinking of teaming that with some Sonoff WiFi mains relays (to replace the 433MHz sockets) and then add in a Dallas waterproof thermometer, the pH sensor you mentioned.Then just set some scenes/alarms in Domoticz to automate the lot (I stole your idea for the DIN box!)

Great Instructable :) I've just started with the Pi and love it, oddly enough I followed a different 'ible to achieve the same result... sorry ;)I use an android app called Autoremote and Tasker which can query the gpio pins and switch them, if anyone needs any help in setting this up, just drop me a line.

Great introduction to this wonderful chip :)I've designed a small PCB to utilise the esp8266 for a variety of applications, I have one connected to a DHT22 temperature sensor and one connected to a string in WS2812B LEDs (here is a link to one in action - https://thingspeak.com/channels/42236 )It takes 5V input, steps it dopwn to 3.3V for the ESP and then outputs 5V for the sensor or lights on a 3.5mm Stereo jack socket (just because I had some lying around ;)If anyone wants the fritzing files to make it themselves I am more than happy to share, just message me and I'll send them across :)

Great introduction to these wonderful little LEDs, one thing I have learnt from playing around with these strips is that you can connect your controller on one end of a strip and connect the power to the other end, I use the digispark as a cheap and effective means of controlling them.:)
