It is heavy, but since they were cheap drums, it's not that heavy. It only weighs about as much as the ceiling fan it replaced. I can hold it up with one hand no problem. Also, it doesn't move like a ceiling fan, so I'm not concerned about the weight.

Hi Erik. I did think of using heads to diffuse the light. That's a big reason I used the LED bulbs. That way there would be no heat issues. My wife and I discussed it, and she wanted the bare bulb/industrial look. I do have the option of putting heads on at any time though. Maybe tinted heads for different seasons? :)
Thank you SuperDude. It is realistic because they are real drums. This is a full size set (22" kick, 12",13", and 16" toms, 14" cymbal).
I have a ladder and a vacuum and I'm not afraid to use them! :).Seriously, I don't think it will be any worse than the ceiling fan it replaced. This has only a few horizontal spaces for dust to collect on. Most of the unit consists of vertical surfaces.
View Instructable »Thank you! I used the electrical boxes because I couldn't think of another clean way to run the wiring. By using the boxes I had plenty of room and was able remove the toms. I don't have pictures, but it had to go up in stages due to the weight and awkwardness. So I hung the downrod from the ceiling, then connected the bass drum and the arms that hold the toms, then installed the toms. I thought about the dissimilar metals and corrosion, but I'm not too worried about it. Not too much moisture makes it up there and since there are multiple connection points, if I ever need to work on it and corrosion so severe has occurred that I can't remove the fittings at the toms, I can just remove the whole arm. Could not find any other fittings on line or at the local lighting shop.

Tried again by using Google and although it looks like you can get there, all you get is a "parked website" message from Go Daddy.
Link no longer works for me either Jack. Just tried it.
