thanks charlie, this is the only useful post i have found online really with this topic... i am very thankful to get good info on this simple yet unknown apparatus :)so am i correct in assuming this is a one piece cable ? and as you suggest pre tensioning the spring is a handful but not entirely impossiblei'll have to go out and purchase the 'toyota special tool' (bag ties) thats a great tip... thankspj

the fairing is generally the part of the bike that carries most of the weight if dropped, what did you do to protect this ?

i have heard of D E but never found any locally, it's highly recommended for fleas as well, always an accompaniment with 'mans best friend'the method of action of D E is particularly devilish guaranteeing a slow miserable termination :(
View Instructable »i imagine the smaller german cockies won't be any different... i'll try this one. i have tried something similar before for ants, using borax, sugar and various other tempting additives... never had too much success though. ants seem to have differing tastes or are simply crafty

that's not a silly idea... :) however i love the idea of a device like the one the OP constructed, so simple but 'prof brainstorm'ish'... lol
Btw i wasn't thinking of a 'humane' release for cockroaches...
View Instructable »here in australia we have a big problem with cockroaches... i'm sure there's a simple solution lurking in here somewhere to catch the dirty little b***ards using a drinks bottle or similar ? obviously gravity won't be the key, maybe friction (or lack of)... ?
at no place in this do you mention removing the original filter... ?
