I use Digi-Key Scheme-it. It's free with a Digi-Key account and pretty easy to use. Cover's everything I need in an Arduino project. I do a lot of PLC systems as well, but tend to use AutoCAD for that.Flip-flopping states on a button? Just thinking out loud here, but do you have the button connected to ground on one side, then to a resistor attached to 5vdc, with your signal line to your Arduino connected between the resistor and the button? Take a look at this example (if you're not already) - https://www.arduino.cc/en/Tutorial/BuiltInExamples/ButtonAnother option to trial things with is Tinkercad. You can build and test an entire circuit on web. It's a pretty handy one as well.

I made something similar to this for my toddler last year; thought about doing an Instructable on it, but realized I didn't take enough photos during my process. I used a cheap plastic toy box with using arcade buttons, a couple of toggle switches, and a home-built arduino so that it did some fun things with the lights. I attached my schematic for that here if you're interested. Kuddos to you sir for expanding your skillset with this one!

Thanks for the reply! I got to thinking after I had submitted that question - I'm assuming that you used A4 and A5 because the joystick you used (at least in the videos) was able to dock right on to the Uno if you used all analog pins Looks like it was probably a convenient way to connect a joystick. That being said, correct me if I'm wrong, but there should be no issue with instead using power and ground rails on a breadboard, so long as you're applying 5vdc and GND?

I love this! I've always wanted to make one of these, and your tutorial is just perfect to help guide me on it. The only difference I'm trying is to set it up on a Classic Etch-A-Sketch.One question on the joystick setup - is there a reason you opted to use A4 and A5 as GND and VCC, respectively? I would have thought to use the GND and VCC rails on a breadboard instead?

I've made these before - a very cool statement shelf! My wife wanted to go a bit further with them and make a nested honeycomb style shelf. I built the Excel calculator at the Google Drive link below to help me know finished sizes of everything. Hope someone else can find this useful :) https://drive.google.com/file/d/13GxWTIh-5TnVrod-DYuIXePvMfDylaOa/view?usp=sharing
