Great question! I personally wouldn’t use this same technique for a car, since these are a bit flimsy and would fly off at the high RPMs that a car wheel spins at. One method that *might* work for a car is the one that I explain in my latest instructable:https://www.instructables.com/id/Better-No-Cost-Crampons/However, I would personally just go with commercial chains for a car to avoid any problems.
Great question! You can disengage the engine and ride it as a regular bike, but because of how heavy the bike is, it is difficult and slow-going to pedal. So, if at all possible, I try to not to get into a situation where I would need to rely on pedal-power alone.

Do the nuts provide sufficient traction on ice? Most other crampons feature spikes to “dig in” to the ice, but the surface of the nut is flat. Does it still work?

Wouldn't it be hard to turn this trailer sharply, since the hitch doesn't allow any side-to-side movement? Would it be helpful to keep the u-bolt slightly loose to allow it to rotate about the seat post?
Why does the hole have to be in the bottom of the tube? Thinking about it, wouldn't you want it on the top so that gravity helps the media enter the tube?
It'd be nice to see a video or at least an audio recording of the difference in noise before and after that addition of the vibration dampeners!
Yes, the hull is not very hydrodynamic, but we didn't have much choice then; as high school students a boxy shape was the easiest to build, as we did not have the equipment or tools to steam and bend wood as a professional shipbuilder would.
