    Universal Table Saw Jig

First thing I have to say is, it looks great and I can't wait to have one! Thank you for the idea. Second, regarding chatter and chatter prevention. On small pieces it should not be as likely. However, if it happens (e.g. on a large piece or very thin material), placing a sacrificial piece the same thickness as the bottom plate under your work (1/8" for yours) should prevent it.Thanks again for this great idea.

  • Make a Carbon Arc Torch for Your 220 Volt Stick Welder

Thank you for a second time, Phil B. Being new to welding I was a.) Unfamiliar with the carbon arc torch and, b.) Looking for projects to utilize my burgeoning skill. Shortly after reading this page I found a dusty box of 3/32" gouging rods and have since played around with them as a two handed torch. (It feels a bit like dowsing for electric flame. Very exciting.) As of tonight my power cables are made, and the metal work is done. all that remains is to drill a few holes in some wood blocks and figure out where I'm going to find a suitable spring.I will post the details once the deed is done, but I felt like expressing my joy as I transform discarded materials into a useful tool. (Welding fever has me wanting to make a box for my worm drive saw - something it needs. But a fancy bo...

Those details should later follow in their own page.) So, thanks again!

    Re-Magnetize a Tool

Phil - Your bio resonates with me. I love taking care of the tools I have, making the ones I don't, and doing whatever needs doing with whatever I can scrounge. Thank you for this post. I knew how to make an EM, but somehow it never occurred to me to use that to (pretty elegantly) re- or de- magnetize a tool. Duh! A second, huge thanks for suggesting the compass. I am much happier knowing that I am working WITH what I already have. I'm a bit embarrassed to do this, but I'd like to add something to that idea. We're in a crazy age where, I suspect, a lot of folks don't have a compass. What they do have is a <sic> smart-phone. These contain and can be used as compasses. (FWIW, my favorite "app" for that purpose is GPS Status for Android. It is dense with simple, useful feat...

(FWIW, my favorite "app" for that purpose is GPS Status for Android. It is dense with simple, useful features, and the program is very small. (In the world of computer programs, smaller is almost always better; bigger is almost always worse.) I don't mean to hijack your thread or advertise a product. I appreciate instructables.com, and I just want to seize on this, my first opportunity to make a tiny contribution to the wealth of knowledge herein contained.)Thanks again, Phil
