This has to be one of the most thorough and complete Instructables I've ever seen. This sounds like the drum synth in "Hiroshima Mon Amour" by Ultravox! I am determined to build this one.

Very cool idea! Now I'm wondering if it's possible to build one to fit in the sole of a shoe like agent Maxwell Smart's spy phone from the 1960s.

Wow! That sounds great, even before the delay gets added. I was wondering, is there any way to add 3 more momentary switches so it could have a full octave of keys? Any idea what values would work for these? I'm assuming this is not 1v/octave.
Lead and tin vapor are barely present at all in the fumes. (unless you run your soldering station at a ridiculously high temperature) It's the rosin/flux fumes that you need to worry about as they contain harmful chemicals.
