My grandparents used have similar lamps in the stable years and years ago (30 years to be exact) and as I enjoy 3D modelling I'm constantly looking for new projects :) It should look pretty cool in wood PLA. If you do print it please send me a picture.

I've had light on for 4-5 hours, sometimes longer and no issue so far. Just to be on safe side you could use SMD light bulb which literally don't produce any heat. Another advantage of using SMD LED is energy consumption which is very low.

Hi, regarding LDR, 5mm should work too. After running few test I was quite impressed with sensitivity of the LDR. If I remember correctly I had to adjust the thicknesses of cogwheels including V2 motorcog. If you print v2 all should fit nicely, but I haven't had a chance to test print to be honest. Hi, I've sprayed one layer, but slightly more than recommended in the can instructions. After spraying a little bit more you won't see many details at first, but when it will dry it will look really good.

Hi, if you use Rust-oleum copper paint it will give that effect. I haven't done anything but spraying it. That's why I use copper paint for a lot of my jewellery projects. You can get Rust-oleum on Amaxon and eBay.

Hi, thank you. The best thing about resin printers is that they are literally as cheap as FDM printers. You can but Anycubic Photo Zero for about $200 and 1 litre resin for $40.

I just check on my wife profile and to see new stl files you must refresh Instructables website. When you open it again, press F5 on keyboard to refresh and then you should see new stl files which will be at the bottom of Step 3

Hi, will do tomorrow. Can you let me know which version of Cura you are using? I'm using old one and it can split models. Try to right mouse click on the model loaded in Cura and then there should be option to 'Split object into parts'. If you won't be able to do that I will upload separate files tomorrow morning :)

All stl files are in Step 3 below pictures and text. Just before Step 4. You should see white blank icons with the file names and download button next to them. After that you will see Step 4.

In the future I would recommend using Sli3er (https://slic3r.org/download/) Usually I'm using Cura but Sli3er has one really cool feature, you can cut stl as you like. I know and it's sad that they choose to belive in some pseudo science nonsense without any reasonable explanation rather to embrace the truth tgat they can experience with their own eyes. It's like them saying that water is dry and if you ask them to put hand in the water tank they will say its a trick or computer simulation and that's it feels wet 🤣

Indeed and I recently took a set of pictures while Exoplanet was transiting HD189733 and when I processed data in AstroImageJ I was able to see a dip in the star brightness. I was so happy about that 😁

Hi, I just updated the gears so the inner planet move faster than outer planet. Regarding the size of the planet that very easy to swap as they are on cocktail sticks and can be placed at any arm and you have few options for the distance too. I tested the Gas giant and dwarf planet scenario in the video :)

That's true, but then again flat-earthers don't do experiments and math calculations, they just say things without investigating it. You can easily calculate distance Earth-Sun yourself too using Aristarchus technique, then you find out that the Sun is so far that can be treated as it is in infinity. You just gave me an idea for another project :) Measuring distance to Sun using Aristarchus technique :) Once you calculate Radius of Earth and then distance to Sun you can work out orbits of other planets from Kepplers Law. You can use webcam to make a spetrometer and measure red shift and and calculate speed, then find a cepheid and measure period, then work out absolute magnitude and distance. Once you know that you can calculate Hubble constant and the age of Universe :D It's pretty cool …

You're absolutely right, but the purpose of this experiment is to work out radius of Earth within 10% error using minimum equipment.To get precise radius you would need to measure the angle a lot more accurately, take into account that equator and pole radius are different, take into account elevation of two points and exact distance with GPS.It's definitely great idea for a college student. In my version of the experiment I wanted to make it as simple as possible and as close as possible to original experiment and that's why I called this apparatus as I did to honour Eratosthenes amazing experiment.

That's why it to took him over a year. He was traveling a lot between Syene and Alexandria so one year he did his measurements at one place and then next year at the other. That's why he choose specific date which was summer solstice and specific time, noon. Within one year he had readings for two points and he also knew the distance between two cities, so he estimated radius of Earth. When I was 10 I used that technique to calculate radius of Earth. At that time there was no mobile phones or Internet, so I measured the angle at my grandma when I was visiting her during summer vacation and next year I repeated the experiment at my house. The calculations where within 20% error, but I guess for 10 year old with a stick it's not that bad.

It will also work it you tilt the rod at first location to cast a certain length shadow and you will measure for example 2 degrees so then at another location with same length shadow you will measure 9 degrees, so the difference will always be the same 7 degrees. You can actually do a simple experiment, use A3 paper and attach 2 cocktail stick with blutack and then do the same on beach ball. Then use torch and shine the light on the A3 paper and both cocktail stick will cast the same shadow. If you do that with ball the shadows ill have different length. I hope that help…

You're right. I must have forgot to mention that. That's why I added bottom plate so if place it on the even ground it should be reasonably levelled. I will add a sentence about placing it on level ground in a minute, thanks :)

Hi, you are right, it only finds magnetic south and at the moment there is no compensation to find true south. I did some tests and turns out that super precision isn't absolutely necessary for Sundials. Usually Sundial designed for specific latitude works pretty well for +/- 3 degrees difference which gives about 10 mins precision. However I'm working on better more precise and accurate version of self calibrating Sundial and I appreciate all sugenstions.
