Sounds like the spring ties may have come undone. Did you look inside? Might be you can take the fabric and padding up, retie the springs, and cover it up again. Tie them tight to minimize wobble.

Hi Tanya, for small cracks that aren't structural, just fill with wood putty. If the cracks risk breaking the frame, you'll have to either replace the part or do a more thorough repair. Which sadly is more effort than will fit into this comment.

I am using Audacity instead of Quicktime to record into, but the process is the same.

That sounds like the best option! If you can, get pre-sized strips. I recall it being extremely difficult to cut the wire; I could not do it at all with any snipping tool and had to resort to a grinder, which was hard to use on them because of the shape and the flex.

When sat on, did the springs curve the other way - did they bend down? If so I would consider replacing them, they should still keep their upwards arch when sat on, just flatten out some. Also if they flex quite differently, spring to spring, that's a hint that at least some of them may be wearing out. I don't know if there's a rule for the height of the arc, but they should all have the same arc, and they should all flex quite similarly when pressed on. From your description, I would guess that the middle springs are wearing out... if you don't want to replace them yet it *may* be possible to get more life out of them by swapping with the outside springs, but you'll have to make that judgement yourself.Good luck!

That looks great! Thanks for posting a pic, it's always lovely to see someone else's work :)
View Instructable »Because I didn't know how to make the PDF print to size. You can alter it on a photocopier that has a zoom feature, or on any photo editing program. There are inch measurements marked on the pattern to show the size it should be.

It doesn't have to be at all precise. Any oval that looks reasonably like the pictures will work fine. I usually make it by folding a piece of paper in quarters then cutting a quarter oval, opening it up, and trimming until it looks about right and has about the right circumference.Post a pic when you've made yours!

I agree, my aesthetic is always round, or off angled, or wiggly. Straight lines can be so boring!
I love those inspiration suggestions. Gonna keep them all in mind for future projects. And if you know anyone who wants to spend a lot of money on something like this, point them my way!!
