Hi Chris, for SA10s I would aim for around 1 cubic ft of space PER woofer for the sealed section. As for the ported section, I would utilize as much space as you can manage. Generally speaking, for a 4th order bandpass to be "worth" while, you need at least a 2:1 ratio. That being 2 parts ports per 1 part sealed (for example, 4 cubes sealed space for 4 SA10s you would want at least 8 cubes of ported area). If you do below a 2:1 ratio, you still increase your playable bandwidth musically, but you're not gaining any output in decibels. Honestly, if you have less than a 2:1 ratio I would look into doing a standard ported box rather than a bandpass. Hope this helps!

Hello Lakrymist, unfortunately I do not have the dimensions of this enclosure. This was many years ago that I built it. Very sorry
View Instructable »Hi Jacob, sorry for the slow response. Tuning a ported box will depend on a lot of different parameters. Mainly the specs of the subwoofer, and the environment it is going into. I can't really give any tuning suggestions without knowing details. Also, the same generally goes with port area, there is a ballpark number to aim for, but it will depend on the environment and subwoofer specs.

I bought my thumb tacks from Walmart. I can’t remember how many came in a pack...maybe 100? It’s been a few years! Lol I just remember them being like $1.50 a pack, and you could always find them just about anywhere if you don’t order enough. Good luck with the project! It was a lot of fun...and my cousin still has them and displays them proudly!

To answer your question "what differentiates a 4th and 6th order" a 4th order bandpass is a Sealed chamber combined with a ported chamber. The advantages of this type of enclosure is that since the drivers are initially in a sealed environment you get better cone control and power handling. You also get the benefit of the frequency range that comes with a sealed box. Adding the ported portion of the box gives you an even bigger frequency range, and amplifies the output greatly. However, unless you have the space to build a 4th order that has at least double the ported area of the sealed area...a standard ported box will have just as much output. Back in the day most prefabricated bandpass boxes were a 1:1 ratio...they sounded great, but weren't any louder than regular ported box…

The pupper isn't outside by himself long enough to dig under the fence. Also, once the weather cools down I plan to do some landscaping around the fence. About 6" of rock on both sides with some small bushes and such.

Sorry for the slow response...I just seen this comment. To be honest, I don't remember which size eggs I used. I believe they were around 5" in diameter though.

Yes, the dog digging and chewing was thought of during this build...a LOT actually lol. Usually, he isn't outside long enough to be able to do any damage, and if he is outside for a long period of time one of us is usually with him. That being said, I do plan on laying down a weed barrier under the fence with about 6" of rock on each side of the fence. It should keep weeds away, give it a nicer look...and at the same time keep the dog from being able to do much damage.

Looks great!!! I'm currently in the process of building a vinyl fence at my home...so I know how much work it is. This turned out really nice!
View Instructable »I know, right?! lol fortunately I live in southern Illinois...so our soil is great for digging. However, I have been running into a TON of tree roots. It's been a nightmare to say the least haha.
Hi, the dimensions are on the diagram on step 1 :)
Hi, unfortunately, I cannot give you that info without knowing what subwoofer you're referring to. Different manufacturers have different requirements.
