I've been doing this for a few years. It adds a touch of spooky to the house, but not enough to scare away the little ones. And I usually introduce them one window at a time so the kids in the neighborhood get a kick out of who's coming up next.

I am puzzled by why you would not use ground-contact (pressure treated) lumber for the base. This would seem to be an appropriate application for it.

Making Cheese at Home
For a survival kit for the average citizen this is not a bad idea. As a Scoutmaster, I would never allow that much disposable material be brought on a camping trip.Dryer lint stuffed inside of an empty toilet paper tube and soaked in paraffin will light the wettest wood. Not as compact, but much more effective.Still a good instructable to stuff in an Altoids tin.
