With the magnetic ink on US dollars, it would be fairly simple to place 3 magnetic heads to read the 3 response curves simultaneously as the note is pulled past the 3 heads. It is almost a foolproof design. I remember that there has been a recent posting on Instructables about a design using only one single magnetic head.For non-magnetic polymer notes, Australian "note acceptors" seem to use optical scanners augmented by UV readers and they seem to be foolproof (up to now) but they do refuse many genuine but faded notes. Australian "note acceptors" are incorporated into Australian electronic gambling machines. There are more than 100,000 gambling machines across the country. Banks still have not fully trusted the "note accept...
