For that application, you probably want something more sensitive such as a gas-tube Geiger counter (i.e Thunderfoot's video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RSsMRkN99aE ). While there are high-energy cosmic rays and you could certainly detect some with this detector, Geiger tubes typically require less energy from source in order to be detected.

Actually, on Mouser they are at ~$120ea. However I did grab them off eBay at ~$85ea, still expensive tho which is why I only could afford to solder two of them...

Rough estimates give something on the order of ~1000 CPM/mR/hr (with a 137Cs source).
