I just entered my project. Thanks!

Thanks for the tutorial - I followed for the most part but am confused how to connect to wifi router without joining access point.

This was very helpful and so far my fave bare bones Arduino. I made a breakout board for my FTDI programmer - no more jumper wires!

Quick update, experimenting with conversion from RPM to MPH for a bicycle speedometer. I used the formula found here. http://mathforum.org/library/drmath/view/60367.html

Thanks pinodisco! I've tried a couple of other tachometer tutorials but this one has ben the best and easiest to use. And I took it a step further and untethered the sensor from my computer by using an LCD from another instructable.

Thanks bitterOz for the guide! I added a couple of jumper wires to consolidate into a single ribbon cable port, and omitted the transistor.

Hey did you ever figure this out? I left my pin 5 floating and my lcd still works. I posted a pic above.

Just finished breadboarding this, thanks for the guide! I didn't have a mosfet to connect between the shift register and lcd but seems to be working fine. I left pin 5 on the sr floating but hopefully figure out what to do with it. I want to eventually convert this into a speedometer to measure MPH, anyone know where to find the code for that?

Cool project! If I wanted the LCD to read miles per hour, will it just be a matter of conversion?
That's awesome! Good to see a variation of this circuit on perfboard instead :)
