Introduction: No Long Build + No Transformer = Great Hot Wire Foam Cutter
I needed a hot wire foam cutter, and fast, so I decided that instead of buy transformes, nichrome wire and all those things, as my material wasn't thick, I get some wire, (copper, but any metal wich conducts heat will do), shaped it, rolled it onto the soldering iron's tip and done!
A 5 minutes hot wire foam cutter (very good hot wire cutter) for free!
To help cutting I got a nail and a plank, used the nail to do a small hole, put the other wire's tip inside and It got much easier to use.

Cool, how hot is your soldering iron?

That one has already burned it's heating element. However that one was 40W.

This is clever, I will certainly try it. Have you played with various lengths of wire to see how far out the heat will go and still work.

I didn't needed to cut very thick plastic, so, I didn't tried a longer wire. However as copper conducts heat very well and the soldering iron Is very hot, It should hold a much longer wire.
