How can I get the dirt out of an old stone lined dug water well?

We have purchased land that has a 100 year old dug well on the property. Until about 20 years ago it was open, but the farmer of the property wanted to make the land a little safer and filled it in. When he filled it in, it had water at the bottom and was approx 30-45feet deep. Since the time when it was filled in, the dirt has sunk about 10feet. It is well made and is small round rock lined. I would love to find a way to get the dirt out of the well and at the same time preserve the nice stone work. It would be my hope to connect a solar pump to it and use the water for gardening purposes. Any thoughts on how to get the dirt out?

Dog Run: We would like to build a covered house with fenced in area for a dog run. Any suggestions? Gregg?

One idea is to put a kennel inside our 12 x 24 storage shed, with a dog door to the outside.  Then, fence in an area outside of the shed.  The dog will be about 50 pounds, and can jump and dig.

How do I mix worm castings into my garden?

In about a month I will have some worm castings. I already have flower beds and vegetables in my yards (tomatos, okra, zuccinni, rosemary, and basil). When I have the castings, do I just lay them on top of the soil or should I dig up some holes and put the castings underground?

Question about dumpster diving in Tennessee

Anyone know if it's legal in Tennessee? I keep calling the police but they just keep saying no instantally. Best as i can they they are assuming I'm looking to steal ID's or meth supplies (big probs with that here). I don't mind the risk of getting yelled at the the store guys but i don't want to get arrested. Also I'm not dumb enough to dig around in private dumpsters here, I'd sooner get arrested than shot to pieces LOL :P

How to do a rats & diggers proof Chicken Tractor?

'Cause if I simply put chicken wires in the ground they cannot scratch off the ground, wich is a quite important part of the 'cleaning process' we look for, isnt it? i eard about staking fences on the ground laying 50cm all around to make long and difficult way for the rats to dig under And why not even sharping the stakes to be nastier... ? But if someone have more simple ideas, for more easy ;ooving and maintenance... A good challenge! thanks

Need ideas on fence?

I know I am going to get responses to the fact that I should not be posting requests like the one I am about to post. I need help/ideas on how to block out next door dogs that are constantly digging holes under my cedar fence. I've spoken with owner of dogs but he refuses to do his part in helping me resolve the problem. I have my own ideas as to what I can do but I would like to see what ideas members of this forum can offer me. Thanks. AL.

How do I build an underground room? Answered

OK, I have had this in my head for some time.  How do I build an underground room about 10'x10'?  The area I would like to build it in is in the back woods, no houses or roads for about a mile, I hit water when I dig 15" down and there are power lines in the area.  Another question is do I have to have a special permit or something to do this on when its my land?  And what about a tunnel leading to other rooms?  Any advise will help.

i have changed the name to how pathetic is criss angel

Is Criss Angell a fake? Let me see a show of cursors! I already well know how most of his tricks are perfored, and they are so dumb! In "Walk on Water", they put plexiglass over one section of the pool. The girl says she swam right under him, but she couldn't have swam around him because of the plexiglass. That is why she went under. In "Steamrolled" they dig out a trench so he fits safely under the big wheels. And the broken glass? Oh that's real. I know many others, but my hands are cramping from typing.

The FootHold Snare

One day, you might find yourself lost in the woods while camping! One day, the stock market will crash and are YOU ready to survive? Traps and Snares are one of the most important things while surviving. Blake Alma, the founder of The Art of the Outdoorsman once said, "A trap is as someone else hunting for you when you can't, it is truly your best hunting buddy!" This is so true. Unlike fishing poles and firearms, traps and snares work when you are sleeping! Hence, learning how to make a simple snare indeed helpful and lifesaving for it is an art of an outdoorsman! Let's get started on this foothold snare. You need: A shovel, 550 lb. test paracord, and bait. Note: There are laws regarding trapping. Step 1: Digging your Hole Picture of Digging your Hole I hope you got a good shovel and back! You will need to dig a hole 2 to 3 feet deep. Yes, I know it is a true pain, but it can save your life or get you free food! Diameter of your Hole: - Raccoon/Opossum/Mink/Groundhog/Large Rabbit (6 inches) - Coyote/Fox/Bobcat (8 inches) - Animals under 550 pounds/Deer/Small Elk/Very Small Bear/ect. (12 to 18 inches) Step 2: Camouflaging After digging your hole, add leaves, thin sticks, tree bark, or grass over the hole. Do not put to much "camouflage" over the hole or else you may prevent the animal from falling down in the hole. Step 3: The Snare Wrap the paracord around a stick or you finger making a small loop. Tie the small loop, and pull your finger out. Make sure the knot is very strong. Put the other end of the paracord through the small loop. You should then have a giant loop, known as the snare itself. Make the loop's (snare) diameter slightly smaller than your hole's diameter. Tie the snare extra line around a tree, sapling, or log near by. Make sure it holds. Place the snare itself over the hole, on top of the "camouflage". Step 4: The Path of the Least Resistance Sense the animal has plenty of ground to step on, it might be hard to get him in your hole. Hence you need to create a the path of the least resistance. You need to make him limited to where the animal will step. Make a path to your foothold snare using leaves, sticks, logs, and grass. Make it easy for the animal to walk through. Like us we want to walk on a nice smooth sidewalk, not on a beaten trail. They want to walk on a path with the least resistance, they don't want step on pointy sticks. They want to step were the feel most comfortable. That is way you need to make a path to your snare, so it will step into your snare! Step 5: Baiting your FootHold Snare Picture of Baiting your FootHold Snare Place your bait two to three feet ahead of your foothold snare. Raccoon and mink like fish. Opossum like processed meat like hot dogs. Groundhogs like sweet apples. Coyote and fox like meat. Deer like deer feed (duh!). How it works: The animal will smell the bait and take your path of the least resistance. While walking up to your bait on the path, he will step his foot in the hole. It will pull his foot out of the hole and continue walking. (When we pulls his foot out the snare comes out with him.) Then the snare tightens around his foot, making him trapped. Unpublished 'ibles.

So after having been off for a long time and finally having pinpointed the neighbours wifi router, sans cantenna (it helped signal but because there's cars passing by made it cut out far easier) I've been on and digging around, immediately I wrote and published a couple of 'ibles I already had made, now I'm rooting around in my unpublished 'ibles... I have 39 of them, many are confusing and worrying, in various stages of writing and the answers to a lot of the burning questions, subjects are wildly varied and questionable at best, there's one that's even ready to publish, however I'm not sure about it, nothing wrong it's just I'll have to listen to a plethora of comments that will annoy me in extremis, points to anyone who guesses it... Anyway... how about you lot? Many unpublished 'ibles, are many ever likely to be publishable?

How to install a well-fed water system (pumps, pressure tank, delivery, etc.)?

I need to know how to install a water system from my well asap.  Full details of hookup.  I have an existing well with a submerged pump in it, but don't know if pump still works.  Presently digging it out to put power to it and find out.  Water "spout" coming out of ground also plugged and am trying to clear.  I have a pressure tank ordered that I hope will work.  Pipe to house all ready dug, checking patency and damage.  If pump doesn't work, is it repairable?, ie., how does it work so I can repair.  How does pressure tank work?  Any tips to make this easier are greatly appreciated.  I am senior, disabled gal who is at war with water company because they are partially, if not completely, responsible for my house burning down a few months ago.  I lost everything.  I am OK with a good basic knowledge of mechanics, but this has me stumped, pls offer any comments that will help.  I am not the only person of my community victimized by our county government.  RClark0240@att.net

Standing (punching) Bag

Hi Everybody I have been boxing for sometime now and have been using a hanging heavy bag. But now I want a little more of kickboxing, so I need a standing bag. But I cant find one here. My "Instructables mind" kicked in and I decided to make my own. I also though of adding a pull bar to it. As in the photo, The black line is the bag stand, and the red one shows the pull up bar. I decided the wall and stand to be 5 feet apart. I may get something up but I thought of getting some professional advice before plunging in. Initially, I planed on digging a hole(about a foot deep) and then using mortar to make a properly round hole so the pole could just slide in whenever I want to use(coz it cant be permanent). And for the pull up bar I could drill a hole in the stand and push the pipe through it and attach a threaded pipe flange to the wall. Should I use pipe or wood. I prefer wood cause its easy to find. People around here have shifted to PVC, so I cant get the pipe from the general sanitary store next door. But I would somehow find it. I need functionality right now. Also if I use the pipe, would filling it up with concrete or mortar strengthen it??? So that's my idea. Any advice is welcome. I need something quick cause I plan to get it done the day after tomorrow.

Test yourself for Aspergers Syndrome

Aspergers Syndrome has only been recognized since about 1995, we call ourselves Aspies. Try this test http://www.rdos.net/eng/ make sure you follow the instructions the results will only survive for an hour, so download them ASAP, the picture (a pie graph) or Aspie-Rating-Picture (ARP) and final score, you can chose to show to people, but the questions and answers are very personal, keep those to yourself. I plan to put my ARP here, that is something us Aspies enjoy displaying, something to be proud of, I hope that other Aspie group members put theirs on. Your Aspie score: 181 of 200 Your neurotypical (non-autistic) score: 28 of 200 You are very likely an Aspie It is possible to cheat to get a high score on the ARP, so I am thinking that ARPs can be voted off by members if members find the ARP unbelievable when comparing the member's ARP with said member's profile and activities on Instructables. Aspies don't practice discrimination, so even if you don't have Aspergers Syndrome, consider yourself as a honorary Aspie and sign up anyway. Visit https://www.instructables.com/community/Analysing-your-test-results-for-Aspergers-Syndrome/ A free for all, discussion on self analysis of your test picture (a pie graph) or Aspie-Rating-Picture (ARP) and final score Another link for Aspies is http://www.psychforums.com. I will dig out more shortly, I have list somewhere, but that one was not it I recall.
