For my sleeping pad. It's a thin, around one inch one. I would like to have something to just suck out all the air when I'm done.

Homemade Snow Maker

This is my homemade snow maker. I came up with the design and built it completely on my own and it works fantastic. This video is how much snow it made in about a minute at marginal snowmaking temperatures. Tell me what you think and rate 5!

Foundraising Teen Team

Hello! We are a Team of makers called the DIY guys. We are in four, four students, and our passion is to get home just to build things. We have built many projects, cool things, science things and other new technologies which can make the world change maybe a little bit. Our dream is to go to the Maker faire, but all of them were in America, and we live in Europe. Now we have the chanse to go to the maker faire 2014 wich will be held in Oslo, norway. The problem is we are students with no or little money, and we can't pay the airplane fly. We have found part-time jobs, but it still isn't enough to pay all that we need to present our team at the Maker faire, so we wanna ask YOU guys, to donate to us. Down here we will post a link, where you can donate to our cause. Every Dollar will make us happy! any ammount you want, we will be thankfull!!  http://www.gofundme.com/5d708w

Some Supply places....

I had made a few knives in my day, and one sword (long long ago, and no, I don't still have it). One of the places that has been around for awhile that has a good selection of supplies AND kits (for the beginner up to the master smith) is the Texas Knife Maker's Supply storeAnother place that looks good, although I have never dealt with them is the MidWest Knife Makers supply I also came across a place to get a Sheffield's Supply Catalog on line. And then there is always the Jantz Supply site. I hope these prove to be useful to you.

Do you know how to make this?

I found this guy online and he does some amazing things with leather. BobBasset I don't even know what it is called so I can't really research it. Thus I post here hoping one of my fellow makers will either know how to do it or at least what it is called.

How much is a New Jersey Devils hockey puck signed by Turner Stevenson worth? Answered

I got this in a basket raffle in 2002. It is in perfect condition and was never used. It has the signature on the face and they used a label maker to print out Turner Stevenson and put it on the side. If anyone can give me and estimate on how much it is worth, that would be great. Thanks!

Steampunk Taxidermy - time-travelling rodents.

Chuffy and his Time Machine, Chuffy (mouse) sits in the little carriage on top of the Time Machine (guinea pig). He is having some mechanical problems getting it started, so the hatch on the side of the Guinea pig is open to reveal vintage clockwork cogs that make the Time Machine work, when it hasn't broken down anyway! Apparently, the donor animals are all natural deaths, including gifts from the maker's cat.

X Marks the Spot

Many of you will know about International Talk Like a Pirate Day. Some of you will know that there's a national election in the UK soon. In the UK, Captain Tom has lost a bet, and has to stand for parliament. Why should this interest us as Makers? Because he is going to fix Broken Britain by sending a free roll of duct tape to every home! Excellent - #2 Son is desperate to turn 18 to vote for him. Have a look at his campaign site.  London-based readers can help with his nomination. Vote for Cap'n Tom! He has policies. He has experience. He has a duck on his head.

elliptical bike?

Has anyone ever heard of an elliptical bicycle? I came up with a design that would pedal using the walking motion of an elliptical trainer and you could stand up or sit down. I recently have seen a video from Maker faire and caught a glimpse of a bike with a similar design. Some minor differences included: The use of a chain ( I think that might give more room to walk/pedal opposed to my design with no chain), the pedaling is higher, and it looks more sturdy. This is helping me produce a better design. A glimpse at the other design is around 7:00 to 8:00 in this video. I hope someone has heard of it.

How do you keep critters out of your vegetable garden?

Due to recent disabilities, I want to do a raised (on a table) square foot garden this year. The major problem I will encounter are all of the friendly four footed furry friends that will come and visit it. Even though we are on several acres, our house is close enough to neighbors that noise makers are not possible and light does nothing to frighten then away. Nothing exotic out there, just some foxes, coyotes, raccoons, skunks, opossums, deer and several feral cats. Maybe a spray on mixture, even if it had to be applied every day...THANKS

Our latest project

Read this description: So I haven't posted anything in a long while, and, as well as work, one of the this was down to me and a few friends getting together and forming a YouTube channel called "MTNunlimited". It started out when we did drama at school (a subject which we no longer take) we had a tonne of ideas that we never got to use, and so we can now showcase them on the YouTube channel. Recently, our local youth theatre announced it's closure this Easter, and so we've decided to offer some kind of alternative to anyone who wanted to join in with amateur film-making. Our goal is simply to have fun. If you click onto our channel here, you'll see that we still have a long way to go before we're near the same calibre as a lot of current Internet filmmakers. This is why we have turned to the instructables community for support. We have a few ideas, but we would love to hear other people's thoughts on what we could possibly base a new video on. We'd also greatly appreciate any tips or tricks of the trade that we have not yet been enlightened on. Don’t consider this ‘spam’, as that’s very much the opposite of why I made this forum topic. I posted this to hear guidance and advice from people who have a bit more experience than us. Here's a little montage I made of what we do, in the form of a cinematic trailer, enjoy! And once again, thanks for any support offered :) - Lowney

Pirate War Games

I don't mean to self promote, but my friend and I came up with an idea for a game last spring. We quickly laid down general rules and guidelines in the form of a blogger site, but haven't been able to work towards it at all since we're both still students. I just remembered about it today (I've been quite busy this semester) when I posted a new 'ible and figured that everyone here on instructables would be the perfect group to take an interest in the game. Our game is called "The Pirate Games" (see url by my username). It's sort of like how the military does war games, except DIYers and MAKErs play and pretend to be pirates. There is a treasure chest and boats and [paint] cannons. How could it get better? If it wasn't only conceptual at the moment. Please feel free to share the site's URL, to start your own Pirate Games tournaments, or to make spin-offs of the game. I only ask that you link back to the site and share it. Also, let me know what you all think! The URL again: http://therealpirategames.blogspot.com/

Radioactive lift controls recalled in France

NEW DELHI (AFP) - India's atomic safety body said Thursday that radioactive scrap metal which found its way into buttons installed into lifts in France had been traced back to a western Indian foundry. At least four Indian firms were involved in the manufacture of the components, an official said, but it was still unclear where the contaminated scrap originated."We are tracking back the whole chain," Satya Pal Agarwal, head of the radiological safety division of India's Atomic Energy Regulatory Board, told AFP."We are taking steps in each place. Exporters have been advised to buy monitors to check their materials before exporting."France's Mafelec firm delivered thousands of lift buttons to Otis, a subsidiary of the US elevator company, which installed them in at least 500 lifts in the country over the summer.Otis has said it is now in the process of removing the buttons, after France's Nuclear Safety Authority announced Tuesday that 20 workers who handled the lift buttons had been exposed to excessive levels of radiation. The French nuclear safety agency has said the lift buttons contained traces of radioactive Cobalt 60.AFP articleSteel items imported {into Sweden} from India showing faint traces of radioactivity were found in Sweden, before the same substance was traced on Indian-made lift buttons in France, officials said Wednesday. The levels of Cobalt 60, a radioactive form of the metal, were considered harmless and the steel components have not been recalled, the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority (SSM) told AFP."Dutch customs discovered that a shipment of industrial flanges from India to Sweden showed traces of Cobalt 60," SSM spokesman Mattias Skoeld said.Focus Agency feedFrench elevator maker Otis said it would remove the buttons from hundreds of lifts it has installed after a radioactivity scare over Indian-supplied materials. The company made the announcement after France's Nuclear Safety Authority (ASN) said 20 French workers who had handled buttons used in lifts had been exposed to to excessive levels of radiation. An Otis spokesman said the firm's plan to remove the buttons "concerned 500 to 600 lifts out of the 2,500 that Otis has installed, modernised or repaired between August 21 and October 9 even if there is no danger for users."The ASN classed the incident at factory of the Mafelec firm in the east-central French town of Chimilin at "Level Two" on a scale of seven because of the exposure of more than 10 people to doses exceeding the reglementary limit.SA Times article
