Are there any natural ways to make voice louder and clearer? Answered

I don't know if there's any way to increase the volume and clarity of my voice, is there?  My voice is too soft, it may sound cute! but, I'm having problems these days because of my soft voice :( When I'm with a bunch of friends or family members I feel like I'm invisible! I have to speak 2-3 times louder than my usual volume!, which ain't easy at all, so I remain quite most of the time. besides, In presentations, seminars I'm getting low grades. The teachers keep saying 'try to speak louder', but how do I do that??? I have good grades, but I'm afraid I'll lose it :( Please, I need help!

mower starts when cold, stalls when hot. has been tuned up, can it be the coil? was told that it was wet gas

Mechanic said that it was water in the gas... the tank has been emptied, the carb cleaned, new plug, and new blade. It still stalls after about ten minutes of running, and then may start back up when it's cold.... I've been thinking that it is a coil problem.. That's the only thing left unchecked because it fired up at the shop , so they sent it home.... And I am curiouse to know a safe way to check a coil while the engine is hot... I have a multimeter, I just don't know how to use it on a coil , or what readings I may be looking for. Thanks for any advice I can get Slacker

Maximum number of contests with 1 instructable? Answered

I have seen many instructables in the past be entered into as many as 3 contests at once, but now that I publish my first instructable, the maximum is 1? When did this change? I can't find any mention of it ever being less than three, in that case, is this a bug? I am really confused, as at no point was I notified of the change or made aware in any way, there isn't any reference to it in the forums or anywhere else I searched.

What animal eats the body and leaves the head and feet? Answered

This morning there was the remains of a rat in my yard, The head, gallbladder, and 3 feet were in a little pile and the body had apparently been eaten.  Anyone know what animal does this?  I live in Fort Worth, Texas and we have rats, crows, possums, raccoons, coyotes, domestic cats, snakes, and mink in our area.  I know of several predators that will eat the heads and leave the bodies, but this one has me stumped.

What is this green globby goo in my driveway? Answered

What is this stuff?? I noticed this green slime in my driveway one day. It's sorta gel-like, has some air bubbles, and is centered around greenery. I can sorta pick it up with a stick and it jiggles and doesn't really come apart. It reminds me of seaweed kinda. It was mainly located in the center of my driveway where we have weed growth. The appearance happened to coincide with a long bought of rain (nearly several weeks). I also noticed some in areas of our lawn and near the edges of our gardens. This is in Northeastern Vermont, photo taken this summer, '09. PS--I apologize if this is too picture heavy. Please let me know if it is. I just like sharing all the neat photos of this strange substance that looks like Slimer from Ghostbusters!

Where, in the US, could a person get away with living in a large tent for free? Answered

I am looking for ideas (of ANY kind) on where in the U.S. I could live (FULL -TIME) in a decent size tent FOR FREE. Is there land that I can live on for free in my tent?? I would like to stay in areas where it doesnt get too cold year round, and doesn't snow at all....But that isn't "set in stone". I really would like to just get away from the crazy, busy city and all that comes with it...And I want to live as free as possible. And by "free", I mean I would like to live rent free outdoors. Once I am able to do that, I think I will feel more free as a human being. :) Thank you for any ideas or suggestions!! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~NEWLY ADDED TO THIS TOPIC FROM AUTHOR:~~~~~~~~~~~ I also posted this in reply to someone's message to me on this site...But I wanted to make sure everyone else read this too because it gives more info on what I am trying to do: This is just gonna sound crazy...But I have 2 cats that I will be bringing with me on the road. I refuse to leave them behind cuz they have been with me through a lot of things in my life, and they are like my kids now! lol! So I have to make sure they have a living space to run around in and get proper excersize (hence, why I am choosing to live in a large canvas tent that will be about the same size as my studio apt that I currently live in). I am choosing to live in a canvas tent because I believe that it will be the CHEAPEST, safest, sturdiest, large enough structure for me and the "kids" to live in for a while. I am also planning on buying a van to travel in for this adventure. I think it will be the easiest and CHEAPEST way to transport me, my cats, and the large canvas tent to where I want to go.

how does pine and willow charcoal differ from plain old random tree charcoal when used in pyrotechnics? Answered

hello, i am starting up an online store, and am already starting to sell some of my pyrotechnic supplies, such as manganese dioxide and charcoal, but i just realised, on ebay (my online store is not an ebay store), people are only ever selling pine charcoal or willow charcoal! which doesnt make much sense since is a super fine powder and is made up of carbon. i need to know what makes these so much different from regular random tree charcoal that comes from just anywhere, and, is the charcoal i have now, which is of unknown origin, but mostly of from pine-like trees in the tropics, the same? i need to know if it makes any difference since i dont want angry customers demanding refunds because it isnt as good as other charcoal!

Does the Swiss Room Box inspire you? Without violating international patent laws, how about making something similar? Answered

Besides the price (over $8K, plus overseas shipping) it seems to take up an awful lot of space, and has some features like the uncomfortable looking chairs I wouldn't use.  But the idea of something that coud fit in a trunk of a car or the back of a minivan that could be used for camping is really intriguing!  Alas, I don't have the engineering skills to design what I'm imagining, but I have to believe there's someone who could use good ol' Yankee ingenuity and probably improve on the Swiss design.  If you Google it, there's a video that shows how theirs works.  Thanks for reading my question.  Suzanne

Homemade Pressure Washer Answered

Hey guys, I had a lawnmower which broke at the blades, so I thought I'd turn it into a pressure washer. So  I welded up a frame from a old hand trolley and bolted on the engine. While I was looking around for a pump I realized that the engines made for pressure washers cannot be used for mowers. Is this the case the other way round?, Will a pump work on this engine? Problem with compressed air, ping pong turret

Hello all, I am in the process of making a ping pong ball turret powered by an air compressor, I’m using a solenoid valve to trigger the air electronically.i have had some exact diameter steel pipe milled out which is 250mm, so the diameter of the balls are 40mm and the diameter of the pipe is roughly 40.5-41mm. And I’ve sealed off one end with a tapped out hole for a nozzle fitting. My compressor goes up to 7 bar -around 100,psi -. Do finally to the topic 0f my question, i have tested the firing of the balls by firing 7 bar through an compressor gun, and to my surprise it didn’t fire across the garage like I expected, instead it made a very high pitched noise and the ball vibrated inside the tube, eventually the ball would rise up the tube and eventually speed up towards the end of the tube but still only launched at most 1 meter. Any help on how to fix this problem would be excellent. As I expect 100psi through an exact diameter tube would fire the ping pong ball very far. Feel free to ask any questions if I haven’t been detailed enough. Cheers

Can you buy or build manually-powered leaf shredder? Answered

At my local Community Garden, we are not allowed to use power tools, but we would like to shred the piles of leaves we get each fall. Would layers of microfiber cloth work as an effective N95 air filter substitute?

Hello, as many of you know, there are some devastating fires in California right now. My family and friends live nearby to these fires, and are being exposed to toxic levels of smoke and air pollution. Due to the disaster situation, many stores that sell n95 masks have sold out or are price gouging people who need them. I have been trying to figure out an effective solution where they could use household materials to approximate the particulate filtering properties of the n95 filter. I was thinking they could make some kind of respirator style mask with the main face mask made of cardboard and duct tape, ad make a "cartridge" for the mask out of a cardboard cylinder stuffed with layers of microfiber cleaning cloth, or potentially other air filtering material, or even activated charcoal if it is available.I understand that such filters are not an ideal substitute but when the air is completely off the scale for toxicity, anything is better than nothing. Does anyone have any input on this? Is this worthwhile at all? Is there another commonly available material that you would reccomend other than microfiber cleaning cloths? -ilpug

Low-tech anemometer that records highest wind speed

I've been tooling for one of these for ages, or how to build one. It has to be low-tech: no electronics, no batteries if at all possible. I want to measure the highest-speed winds per day, not the actual windspeed at that particular moment. I live in a wind-tunnel and I'm curious to know just how strongly it blows My very vague idea was: windsock with a cord attached to the far end gauge with vertical slider, wind speeds marked, sliding part fitted with ratchet system so it can move up freely, but not down again cord on the end of the sock connects to the back of the slider: theory: the harder the wind blows, the higher the end of sock will be lifted, and the higher the slider will be pulled. Each day I'd be able to take the highest reading, then reset the slider back down for the next day I've got a cheap cup anemometer but I've no idea how to use its rotation speed to make measurements of course, marking the gauge accurately would be a bit tricky! Does anyone have any thoughts/tips/suggestions? Thanks! I've been looking vainly for "mechanical anemometers" but usually get the "take four paper cups" type, or the pukka ones at £££ or $$$. it'd have to stay outside all the time, so a battery one wouldn't be much use

CO2 breathing animals?

Obviously from what we see today, evolution branched off into two sides, the co2 producers, and the co2 users.  Now all animals that walk or swim the earth today breath in oxygen and out co2.  It may sound crazy, but have we not even attempted to produce oxygen making creatures.  Evolution just didn't really branch off to this kind of creature and it would be very difficult to create.  Todays Autotrophs don't produce enough energy for a large animal.  Trees and small single cell organisms use tiny amounts of energy, but could a hybrid allotroph, which gets the majority of its energy from eating like a normal cow, but then it also uses co2 and sunlight maybe, and then you can eat it.   Just a crazy thought that has always bugged me.

Operate a 12v/6Amps air pump, with DIY battery pack? Answered

Hello guys... I have an electric air pump and i want to operate it with a battery pack (for camping purposes, away from any kind of electricity source). Its a 12V/72W pump (works with car lighter connector) so by my poor calculations, i need something that can give me 6Amps for at least 5-10 minutes. I have a lot of 18650 batteries in my disposal, so i thought that i maybe can put together a portable battery pack, so when i go camping for example i can carry it with me. My circuits design skills are... nonexistent... My DIY skills are reasonable... so my questions are: 1) Is it possible to create something that can provide at least 5-10 minutes operation, once per every charge? 2) If yes... can you please tell me or point me at the right direction so i can accurately calculate the amount of batteries that i need and the proper way to connect them? 3) or... any other easier "portable" solution? for example something lighter and cheaper than a motorcycle battery...? Thank you for your time! :)

I live in Massachusetts. I have an inground pool and the nest is under the edging of the pool. They're HUGE like 2 inches long and they're black with a blueish hue and frequently carry grasshoppers into the nest. I'm not sure but from researching they might be digger wasps That's what wikipedia says but when I google image search them it's not the same looking wasp. I've tried killing them with wasp/hornet spray but the dam things are invincible and the spray doesn't even phase them! Last year I killed a handful of them by stalking and smacking with my flip flop which isn't easy because they're fast and very aggressive. You can't get within 10 feet of the nest and they after you. I have dogs, curious dogs. And kids. Kids with friends that like to come swim but everyone's afraid to go out there because of these things. What's the right chemical to kill them with I've tried this wasp killer
