Intro: Ramen Noodle Beef Jerky Dinner

now, the idea for this came to me at about the same time as the recipe for the ramen beef stroghenoff. this one was infanitely easier, and so will be shared sooner.

ok, for this meal you will need the following:

1pkg. oriental ramen noodles
beef jerky - chopped
1/2c. dried/frozen peas*
1/3c. dried/frozen corn*
1/3c. dried/frozen carrots*
3 Tbl. sp. dried/frozen onion*

*for simplicity, use mixed vegetables.

STEP 1: Step 1

fill the sauce pan with water. thats sounds like a no duh to me, but then again, what do i know. but yeah, once you have the pan filled about 2/3-3/4 of the way full, set on the stove and turn the burner to high.

STEP 2: Step 2

add the dried/frozen ingredients to the water along with the jerky and a seasoning packet. let cook until rehydrated.

STEP 3: Step 3

add the noodles. cook untill the noodles are soft and then serve. makes about 2-3 servings.

STEP 4: Step 4

serve and enjoy.

cook time: roughly 30-45 min.

THAT IS AN OUTSTANDING IDEA . i bet fi all the ingredients were dry , it would travel up & down the river on those three day fishing trips very nicely . thank you.
Try using some Asian store brands of ramen noodles. The multiple spice packets will allow you to add spices and still control the saltiness by either not adding the salt/spice pouch or limiting it to a safe 1 week supply in a portion rather than the usual month supply. Oh! you can also omit the exaggerated hyperbole.
Oberto in particular has so much pepper and other seasonings you'll probably cough it up. I recommend washing it off first so you don't get a heart attack. :P
I made something similar to this.Difference being it was cooked with hot water added to all the ingredients inside of a potato chip bag.This then was wrapped in a pillow case to insulate heat for a period of time to cook.Unfortunately, I had no veggies to add. Can't get those from commissary in prison.(really not trying to be funny but it's true.And funny)
OK...I agree with those that don't like the salt in this recipe...so here goes...first take your jerky and soak it for an hour or so...remove and pat dry...do no use the liquid...keep for some other dish if you like...now fix the meal...but leave out the packet...instead use low salt chicken broth...or better yet your own soup stock...fix the same as before...now you have low salt and lots of flavor too oh one other thing...try using turkey jerky..homemade is best...be a nice change of pace
i have yet to try this but i would only use the salt from the jerky because that already is loaded with it. you can use a little butter instead of those flavor packets. those are a killer.

Brilliant idea, I think I would skip out on those veggies.... add some wontons or something maybe....
interesting idea re-hydrating the jerky in the soup. Does it still have that "preserved" taste or does the boiling mellow it out and just flavor the whole soup with a light jerky taste?
actualy the 'preserved' taste as you call it disapeared as far as i could tell. and yes, it lended its flavor quite nicely to it.
