Intro: Slab Table

This is a video showing one method of how to flatten a valuable wooden slab that is seriously out of whack.

Thanks, Straklin. Every piece of wood is different so there is no one fix for a flaw, but understanding what the wood wants to do is most of the game. Start small and lear as you go, I'd say. If you get in a bind that you can't figure out, give me a holler and I might be able to help.

Beautiful work. This is something I would love to try, but would be afraid to do, because my skill level is to low. I'd be afraid I would ruin the wood. Also, sourcing the wood would be hard I think. I have to start small and work my way up. This is the kind of work I would like to aspire to. Thank you!

What a labour of love. You are a true craftsman. Skillful value adding to create a beautiful piece of furniture. Well done.

Thanks tbnreed. The piece came very close to some major problems along the way which would have been a very big deal considering that the client had built a very beautiful (and very expensive) home with this slab as the starting point and centerpiece! Failure was not an option. I felt like I was walking a tightrope without a net at times considering how much the slab needed correcting, but was very relieved when it all came together.

Wow, another gorgeous table.

Have you considered doing a full step-by-step write up on any of your projects? I'd personally love to read the details and see the steps of how this was done, and I think it would help your work get the attention it deserves on this site. Just a thought! :)

Hey Seamster. Thanks. You know, I have considered doing the full step by step with narration thing, but building a piece and making a video of it is super time consuming as it is. To do the whole step by step instructional process would probably triple the time of any particular piece. If I had the time, I'd be happy to do it, but, luckily, I'm always focusing on being efficient in order to meet timelines for clients. If commissions dry up? There is one design that I'd like to have others build for me so a step by step video will be an essential tool. If I can get to making it, I'll certainly post it.

Cheers!

Completely understandable!
