I need some PCB help

I'm trying to help a friend make a PCB for a project of his, but I've never made one myself. Using westfw's design rules in Eagle Free Edition, the board is riddled with jumpers, but there are only three with the default-width traces. I ask you, O wise Instructables community, what should I do?We were going to use the iron-on laser printer resist method, but that won't work if it is too sloppy to make thin traces. How thin can the traces be made with this method for a beginner? We also are considering using this film, in hopes that it will be a little easier to use...does anyone have experience with it?The other option that comes to mind is transferring everything to ExpressPCB instead of Eagle, in an attempt to make a bigger board that could use bigger traces.

Can anyone tell me how to link 2 PC's together to double the processing power? And if so then perhaps it could be custom built into one case eliminating the need for 2 seperate power supplies.

is it worth it to plant a veggie garden directly in ground?

Is it worth it to plant a veggie garden directly in ground or should i just go with one of the planters from the site? my soil is real bad and would require a lot of working. its hard as clay and filled with rocks.. it would be more accurate to say that i have a bunch of rocks with some bad dirt... should i just build a few planters (i have the wood and tools handy) and fill with store bought soil or are three advantages to planting directly in the ground?

Navigation lights for boats? 112.5 degree - Port/Starboard (red/green) side lights & 360 degree white stern lights

Small boats under power are required to have a 112.5 degree lighting on the sides and an all-round white light on the stern. The light on the left or port side is red, while the right or starboard sidelight is green. At night, these lights must be visible for 1 mile, while the stern (rear) white light must be visible for 2 miles (minimum). These lights indicate direction... course. Led navigation lights are very expensive. LEDs are very cheap... So, why not build 'um yourself? My small craft uses a 12 volt battery operated trolling motor for power, and therefore, the idea low power consumption LEDS is very appealing. I've never built and LED lights, but I'd love to see some ides for small electric (or gas powered) powered water craft. Thanks

I want to make a mold of a cement retaining wall block.

I was thinking that vacuum forming would be the best way to go, but not sure about the textured face of the block. I'm also not sure what the best material would be, something flexible enough to peel off the block for re-use, but sturdy enough to not need a form around it. Any ideas would be greatlly appreciated!

Bullet proof bra!

A US woman had a lucky escape when a burglar's bullet bounced off the metal underwire in her bra.Police in the city of Detroit said one of three intruders fired a shot when the woman looked out of her window and saw them raiding the house next door. The bullet smashed the window and hit her, but instead of causing serious injury - or worse - it was deflected off the wiring in her bra.The unnamed 57-year-old woman was taken to hospital and released the same day."It did slow the bullet down," said a police spokesman. "She sustained injuries but they're not life-threatening."Teenage gangThe woman, who lives on the west side of Detroit, had seen the youths breaking into the house next door while her neighbour was away.Police believe one of the gang saw her looking out of the window and fired at her.The suspects then drove away after the shooting.Local police Sgt Eren Stephens Bell told the Detroit News: "We need to get some bulletproof vests made from that. It is some strong wire." BBC Story

Wood Steaming and The Tubench: DIY Videos at their best.

It all started when I was on the internet, as usual, and began to search for ways to bend wood cheaply. I had heard of people doing it with just a copper pipe and a blowtorch, but I wanted some affirmation from the interweb before I inadvertently set by garage ablaze. Now, I don't know about you, but when I want to know how to get something done, I head to Youtube first. I'm not sure why, but I find how-to videos to be a much better starting point for a project than reading long, picture-less descriptions on someone's website, although it's probably just because I end up wasting extra time.A search for wood steaming and bending yielded this video of a man in Belgium who turned his backyard into a steam-run hell, or playground, depending on your perception of safety versus fun. I was blown away (perhaps literally) by this video. With the combination of wild 8-bit techno beats, precariously assembled and potentially deadly equipment, and a project of such a scale that even a music-video director would be envious, you have yourself one of the most incredible DIY videos I've ever seen. I watched it probably five times before I stumbled upon another video by the same guys. Despite high expectations, I could have never been prepared for The Tubench. Just when you thought these guys couldn't get any more insane, they give you this. They gave you the Tubench. If you thought building a bench was boring or at all a passive activity, you were wrong. Or, at least you were before you realized building a bench out of tubes requires speeding dangerously through parking lots, building it a surfboard, attaching it to your car like an antenna, and SAVAGLEY BEATING IT WITH EVERY SINGLE IMPROVISED BENCH-TORTURE DEVICE YOU HAVE... to ensure structural integrity, of course. Apparently, these things are actually available for order by emailing DIETRICHBONNE@hotmail.com. Well, I still have no idea who these guys are, or what possesses them to make such epic videos, but if they haven't been invited to Instructables already, someone needs to draft them in! Keep up the good work, my Belgian friends.Happy Hacking~Skyfinity

Dead laptop

My acer aspire 6920 laptop doesn't boot. I have tried the POWER RESET (as an option specified on the acer website), by removing the battery, unplugging, and holding the power button for 20-30 seconds. This had no effect. How it happened:I was playing a game called Warzone2100 on Ubuntu, and it FROZE, so i did a hard shutdown and then.....When I press the power button the following happens:>The Cinedash, and power button light come on . The Hard drive and Cd-rom, fan, and HDD start-up as well.>The hard drive light above the caps lock and num lock indicators flashes seven times consistently, with about a 3/4 of a second between each flash.>The system shuts off completely>(without anyone pressing the power button)The system turns back on and nothing happened.>The system requires a hard shut down.During this entire period NOTHING shows up on the screen, and the back light stays off.I think my BIOS is a PHOENIX and according to some research 7 BIOS beeps means its a bad processor. So I think my flashing light could be a Bios indicator. If my conclusion is true, do laptop processors cost ? and where would I be able to get one ?Are they easy to install ? are they interchangeable with desktop processors ?BTW My processor is an Intel Centrino T5750 Dual Core 2.0ghz.Thanks to anyone who helps me out !

What would be a good way to control and/or pre-program 6 servos, 10 LEDs, and a speaker?

So far I've looked at something like this:http://www.servocity.com/html/servo_controllers.htmlI wouldn't want to have to connect it to a computer, plus I need a micro controller for the rest of the parts anyway.Or something like this:http://cheapcontrolsystems.com/I'd prefer the system to be autonomous, but if it could be both autonomous and controllable that would be preferable, with simply controllable being the last resort. Also does some sort of wireless tether system exist? Like could I have this system follow me?

Best answer will get a mention in my instructable if I do get around to making it.

need help with design/placement of actuator or similar to raise and lower trailer gate.

My dad lost his leg but walks with a prosthesis he also only has use of 1 arm. What we are trying to do is make it so he can raise and lower his trailers gate using one simple control. He uses the trailer to transport his scooter which he rides when he cant walk long distances. Right now i have a hand powered boat winch going from the fender to the gate but its difficult to operate. What id like to do is use an actuator or something similar and have it powered by his wiring harness or even a battery on the trailer with a solar charger. I cant wrap my head around the design and placement atm so im asking for help. this is basically the same trailer model http://tinyurl.com/c32dlw

Anybody got funny Chain Letters?

I was wondering if anyone had any funny chain letters? I made up one a few minutes ago: There was once a girl who went to the grocery store to buy cheese. Then one of the people who worked there said to her: "We have no cheeeeese" The girl was so suprised she fainted and died. Copy and paste this 5 times within the next hour, or the girl will come to your bed with string cheese hanging out of her mouth, with a sword made of cheese. She will be bleeding melted cheese, and will be crying melted cheese tears, saying "CHEESE! GIMME CHEESE!" If you post one, do not start it! P.S. Enjoy some random pictures!

Someone help! DIY wah wah guitar effect

Instructables community, I am 13, just learning to play guitar, and want some awesome effects to spice up my sound. I have seen the kits for DIY wah wah effects and wish to make one. I will probably end up using a protoboard; but can someone simplify the plans and/or give me the links to the parts i need? Thanks in advance, -Nick
